Late-night waivers caused me to stay up. Keeping the fantastical dream alive

Two adds:

Added:

Cleveland Defense - D/ST

Song:

Ain't It Fun - Rocket From The Tombs

Particularly excited to pick Rocket From The Tombs, who turned into Pere Ubu, alt-legends, who, though never quite a personal favorite of mine growing up, deserve homage because of those people workin' away in industrial cities making music and life come to fruition. They also morphed into the Dead Boys, which was more of my college punk style, one that seems a bit humbled now. But this song is both edgy indie and sneering punk at its finest, IMO.

Added:

Austin Hooper - Atlanta - TE

Song:

OutKast - Ms. Jackson

And what can one say about the new Harlem Renaissance down in Atlanta -- as instructed to me by one who Shall Remain Nameless Just For Internet Tact And Anonymity -- except that it was something even Tom Wolfe caught a whiff of. A Man In Full and all that. It was so influential in pop culture that it reached the upper echelons of those daring to comment on all things pop. I can think of a bunch of songs, in particular one I'll save, but none are more emblematic and perfectly done than this one by OutKast.

What's that? Encore? Okay, I'll double dip.

Greatest performance I have ever seen live besides My Father My King by Mogwai in Northampton, MA, and I mean that.

Crazy - Gnarls Barkley

I remember his march down to the stage during the Grammy Awards, sadly edited from this particular video. CeeLo Green is from Atlanta and was in the Goodie Mob, IIRC. Anyone who says the Grammys are dead -- and they largely are -- missed a heck of a moment with that one. I only caught it years later, and lamented the fact.

eta* The walk was not edited, it's just not as I remember it. Also edited for the link to the original Ain't It Fun, which sails with Cheetah Chrome a little more.

Tyler Boyd Cin - WR

$21 Winning Bid

Fred Ex Hex $5 (Outbid)

Dan Bailey Min - K

$20 Winning Bid

BoswellGoesToBitburg $5 (Outbid)
I would have bid more if not a kicker and not oft-injured. I think that's a weirdly great anti-statistical fantasy play. Who else you gonna get that high volume from fifty-plus? Deep leagues, man, deep leagues.

My problem was that my kicker last week kicked off then neglected to do anything more for the rest of the game. (I don't think he retired ;) ) So I needed a good kicker ASAP.

Yep. That's also why I contacted you -- because I had bid five bucks on Bailey and knew from your post that something was up. All worked out well. You bid your bucks for the kicker you wanted. Cool.

Peace,

RA

P.S. Please don't kick my ### with him

My luck will be a loss by 2 with a late-game shank like the Cleveland kicker!!!

They died like they lived, fat and hairy
:sighs:

Got to see them live once. Cowboys From Hell tour. They destroyed even then, but it would only hit heights of crazy insanity later. I think Vulgar is in the metal canon, but I'm not metal enough to comment. But that album was sick.

I was stationed overseas, listening to what grunge I could, and mostly slept on their heyday.  So I'm not metal enough either but I think Cowboys and Vulgar are both well loved by many

I don't want to spotlight too badly, but what was your favorite grunge band, out of curiosity?

Soundgarden initially, but Afghan Whigs were the band from that whole overarching scene that I ended up getting into the most

how about you?

Wow. Cool. Congregation was probably one of my favorite albums from that scene, though I could say that about a lot of those bands. I remember the untitled track from that album the most, actually. "Don't forget the alcohol...ooh baby...ooh baby." I missed out on Seattle during this draft. I was going to take an off-the-beaten path Seattle band, but I think you took Russ before I could, which wound up being good, actually. Greg Dulli was in that makeshift indie Beatles movie, wasn't he? I forget what they called it, but they thought he had the look, so they cast him in it. Was it Backbeat?

I don't know. Just spitballing.

eta* Hey, Zilla, missed your edit. If you go back through this, it was Mudhoney, by far. That was my favorite Seattle grunge band. Every Good Boy Deserves Fudge still gets regular spins on the dial from me.

It was Backbeat.. He had the voice.  He was in the band that was cobbled together to do the soundtrack - it's good, pretty straight covers of covers, "20 Flight Rock" that kind of jams

He sang the John parts, Dave Pirner sang the Paul parts? And Mike Mills sang the Stu part

Other things I may or may not recall correctly, it was all put together by Don Was, and there was a guy from Gumball, and Dave Grohl was brought in to play the super easy drums

Classic Stephen Dorff vehicle.  Movie 2 stars, soundtrack 3.5

Oh, like Eddie Cochran #### for the bolded.

Nice on the second bolded, and I'm kind of catching the reference. That seems familiar.

eta* Or was it Gene Vincent that did the 20 Flight Rock? Now I'm all confused.

Don Was, if I'm not mistaken, produced a bunch of indie stuff during that period. For the longest time I thought he produced Quicksand, but that was Don Fury. Gumball also introduced me, as a junior or senior in high school, to the Damned with a damned (!) ballsy tribute to "New Rose."

The guy from Gumball was Don Fleming.  He played on the Backbeat soundtrack but that was produced by Don Was.  I like Fleming's production of The Posies.  He toughened up their sound but left their sweetness intact.

There was also Don Dixon who produced indie records around the same time.  Dixon was married to Marti Jones and co-produced the first couple R.E.M. albums.

It was the golden age of producers named Don.

Man, I love when this thread gets bumped. Who owes picks, darn it? I'll help bring the hammer of justice down with the help of these meddling kids.

OK. I have entered the waivers up to the adding of D.J. Moore by JZilla this morning. I have not entered the Songs. If people can go thru and add their songs or if someone else can just pull thru the last couple pages and copy the stuff that would be great.

Thanks!

Awesome! I will do the songs that don't get individually added over the weekend and the playlist.

Sweet!  13th place and I have more points through 2 weeks than 9 of the teams ahead of me in the standings (and everyone I'm ahead of as well).  I love fantasy football.

:ptts:

You now the drill. It's Thursday. They play football, I drink weed and smoke beer. Also random Summerpalooza I to listen.

1. Express Yourself by Madonna. I am currently expressing myself.

2. Slow Hand by The Pointer Sisters- I am now expressing myself with a slow hand.

3. I Saw the Light by Todd Rundgren- I was expressing myself with a slow right then I saw the light

4. Love Hurts by Emmylou Harris- Not when I do it

Looks like we are missing 3 songs.

16.10 - El Floppo - RB - Kenneth Dixon - Baltimore Ravens - Dan Deacon

W - 11 - El Floppo - RB - Marcus Murphy - Buffalo Bills

W - 34 - El Floppo - WR - Antonio Callaway - Cleveland Browns

Should we prevent @El Floppo from making any more claims until he finishes his music?  ;)

The Wrong House is a fine track.
