This past Friday I went out of town to visit a friend for the weekend. Her dog is very sweet, but it jumps on you when you walk in the door when she hasn't seen you in awhile. She jumps up on the guest a couple times like she is on a pogo stick, and then she doesn't jump on the guest again for the rest of the stay. Anyway, I walked in the door and she jumped on me in excitement, and her super long nails tore through the skin on my arm. It bled like crazy for a long time. I washed it with soap and warm water, and put some Neosporin on it. My friend said her dog's nails were long, because she is overdue to have them cut at the vet. Apparently, the dog has to be put under anesthesia at the vet to have her nails cut, because the nail clippers freak her out.
Yesterday, I thought my arm looked a bit swollen, but I wasn't sure. Today it was slightly warm, so I went to the walk-in clinic around 4 to have it looked at. The Dr said it is infected, and he prescribed me an antibiotic called Cefadroxil, and he said that should take care of it. I had my last tetanus shot in 2019, so I'm good there.
This is what my arm looks like now, which is better than it looked over the weekend. I'm still waiting for the prescription to be filled. I hope she gets her dog a manicure soon. The dog's nails are like the late great
Flo-Jo's nails.
