Summerpalooza VI: Return of the Rock Bands - And they say "He's in the Class A Team" (2 Viewers)

Zamir White RB Oakland

Kurt Rosenwinkel Trio - "Little White Lies"

I probably should have handcuffed my own holdout RB but I have more faith in Mark Davis screwing things up than even Jim Irsay.

"Little White Lies" is an old 30s Pop song that was a hit for Ella Fitzgerald way back when. This 1996 recording by guitarist Kurt Rosenwinkel is a very nice update. RIYL: Pat Metheny, Julian Lage, John Scofield.

12:07 Jerome Ford RB Cleveland Browns

Song

I don't know many Jeromes, so my mind immediately went to Jerome Kern, who was Oscar Hammerstein's collaborator before the famous pairing with Rodgers. And my favorite song of Jerome Kern's is by Paul Robeson, who is a Rutgers grad (my alma mater), and was an incredible activist and all-around amazing person.

So it's not a rock song, but it is a great song: Ol' Man River by Paul Robeson

I felt those countdown threads would move too fast for me, which they did... glad the song has some clout though, those canuckies were (are?) alright

I think it's a "were" now. They haven't put anything out in a while and until the next nostalgia wave hits, they won't really be a viable seller. Perhaps they made enough money and contacts to self-finance, though. There's always that hope.
Steve Bays does a fair bit of producing these days, he would probably have the industry connections to get it done but I don't know that they're particularly interested in doing so.

Deuce Vaughn, RB Dallas

yeh, he tiny - looks like a pee wee kidt out there 😁

but monster numbers at K-State, just like predecessor Darren Sproles (who are actually larger than Deucey here).

TINY players like this are big outliers - Sproles, Cohen ... and? McCluster? McKissic? small guys, yeah ... but all bigger than this 5'5" 175 dynamo.

from being "too small to be drafted" to "only selected because his daddy is a scout for the Cowboys" to "hardt time making the roster" to "longest of shots to be a facotor" to "lock to make the final 53" to "we'll find him a role" to legit talk of him being Pollard's direct backup - quite a journey - kid has earnt it, go look at highlights from camp and first exhibition game - HUMAN JOYSTICK. he'll get touches.

he's a trier, like those great horses Seabiscuit & Cigar ... both who hadt no bidniz competing with the bigger, more majestic blue blood thoroughbreds, let alone making them look foolish, as they both did.

Blinded By The Light - Manfred Mann's Earth Band

we all know he were being cheeky, and did actually say "doosh" instead of "deuce" ... so, my team name and my fave bite sized chap in one fell swoop.

Love the write-up here ^^^

12.11 - Jonathan Mingo - WR - Carolina Panthers

Nothing could be finer than some Carolina water in the morning.

Panther Like A Panther - Run The Jewels

knowing you, i bet you were holding this one as long as ya couldt, 'cuz i kno how much you love RTJ 😁 goodt stuff

i chose him in similar rd in my last $$$$ draft - profiles as the next great ole Miss wr - i opted for QJ in this draft instead, simply because he's attached to Herbie ... but Mingo has much less to be bothered with in the wr room, he can dominate targets toot sweet, and wouldt be in best interest of the organization, seeing as how he's tied so tight to Bryce ... Reich can fast-track their development as goodt as any coach out there.

If only I was that clever. I watched the preseason games of the Panthers and have come away thinking that their line is so bad -- and Chark and Thielen a step slower than they used to be -- that Young is going to be looking Mingo's way quite often in the slot (he'll play big slot a bunch and was in their two WR sets when they went with two). I don't know about the talent, but I know there's at least opportunity, as you so astutely pointed out. If Thielen and Chark aren't just going through the motions, then we'll see a different set of circumstances come the regular season, but from what I've seen, Thielen be old and Chark might have just lost a step, which nukes his game (it's a finesse game to be sure).

I thought of the Run The Jewels thing after I picked him. I almost went with Jonathan Richman's "Velvet Underground," a song Eephus posted recently. They share the same first name and all. . .

12.13 - HUNTER RENFROW - WR - LVR

Here are some of the quotes coming out of camp about Renfrow.

"Word out of Raiders camp is that Hunter Renfrow looks as explosive as ever"

"“You can look into their eyes and know they’re made out of the right s**t.”

"Won't play Sunday"

Ok, well ignore that last one, but I do think that if he is back healthy, he can have a great season with noodle-armed Jimmy G and be a legit WR2.

Song later.

Heading to our local folk fest for the rest of the afternoon I'll check in intermittently.

One of my favourite days of the year. A big local free festival, where everyone sits on the hill and watches the bands. Very family friendly (there is a beer garden as well for folks like me).

I think it's always all Canadian bands. Certainly every one I've seen there is... This year going mostly for Dizzy (who is awesome), Dan Mangan (also awesome) and the headliner is Broken Social Scene (very awesome).

Can't wait!!

Legends - Company Flow

El-P once enrolled in Hunter College.

Also, the Raiders have many legends ... whose numbers they refuse to retire for some reason.

Marvin Mims Jr, WR Donks

Payton traded up for this kid, and made him the first selection of his regime, says a ton, considering they were bereft of draft capital - goodt enuff for Sean, goodt enuff for me.

the Patrick/Hamler injuries blew the doors wide open for him to step right on in - makes his debut tonight, as he missed first exhibition game.

much like Deuce, he can be referred to as (cues Cosell voice) the diminutive one

hopefully assumes the Lockett role for Mr. Unlimited - Marvin the Martian, baby 🧹

last cat Payton drafted who profiled as such were a cat by name of Brandin Cooks - sounds :ok" to me.
