right.....I thought about leaving that part out of my post because I knew that is what people would focus on and come back with a response like yours....I get that part of the game, but that wasn't really my point....and you could argue that if someone is that emotional and booty hurt about a tiny piece of papaya (that anybody can get at any time) and is going to freak out and make a big deal about it.....who knows what else THAT person is going to flip out about down the road and how could you trust THAT person to handle any other actual meaningful emotional decision down the road.....to me this really says more about Shan than it does Ricard....but thats just me....lol...and maybe why I would suck at this game....

The thing is, when you're starving and have little to do, you're going to get worked up over minor things in ways that you never would in real life. The show is designed that way. And Ricard, as a superfan, should know that, and should have known that what he did might rile up some of the others.

I guess if we see more people gather in Shan's corner on this one and it grows a life of its own, then ok.....but for now it seems like just her....and a big  :rolleyes: for everybody else.....

There may have been other reactions we didn't see. Shan's reaction was shown to illustrate how she and Ricard are drifting apart.

if she is going to freak out on me like that in front of everybody over something so small....I'd be drifting too....others might try to capitalize on her emotional weakness and instability, but if I was on that island I would be wondering about what the next tiny thing is that is going to make her head explode....

I think they were aligned much more before because they had to be to make sure their dumb tribe mates didn’t realize they had the majority. They can’t rule the roost by themselves now. Also, Deshawn sure doesn’t appear to be in here court anymore. I’m looking forward to some break ups.

 
Ricard walking up and without missing a beat taking something that slice of papaya.. minor.. a non-event in most circumstances.. but, buddy, read the room.

Survivor is essentially a prison environment. they're stripped of everything (albeit, not really, and they aren't at risk of being shanked) but the parallels are similar. 

the littlest thing can get you stabbed.. or in this case, stabbed in the back. people on the outside think it's nuts, but people on the inside know the rules.

his eye rolling, shocked reaction (which he has consistently displayed in reaction to everything) shines a bright light on his general attitude. everyone else is an obstacle to what he wants and he can't even fathom why people don't just let him do whatever he wants.  Shan's reaction hit him like he were an 8 month old playing peek a boo.  a "holy ####, what kind of ####### insanity is this! how in the...?! what is going on????!" something his brain couldn't process that hit him like when the acid slams all at once.

I know I wouldn’t like either of them. One would try to bully you into getting what she wants and the other thinks he’s god’s gift to the world and the smartest person alive.

he definitely feels like a solid candidate to get pulled along. someone you use to take the hits. let him think he's in charge when he's just getting played at every turn & his ego won't let him recognize that fact.

As much as I've hated most of the chaotic "twists" and complications this season, I was a big fan of the one at the immunity challenge where they had to negotiate group size and get people to join to get all that rice.  Lots of considerations and maneuvering going on there that I found interesting to watch.

Also, last night I learned that there is a player named Heather.

Wife and I got caught up tonight. I can’t remember the guys name, but i love that the black dude that is getting fed with Shan and her trying to run everything. She is power hungry!

When her name was mentioned earlier in the episode I had no idea who they were talking about.  It’s funny to me that at tribal she just assumed that everyone should just start gathering & whispering before votes. Can’t we just go to a vote without all the side whispering?

Yeah that misplay there was almost the end of the whispering tribals forever. Horribly misplayed. What a maroon.

the edit is painting her as a pretty conniving, manipulative, control freak.

the preview of next week's ep where she shushes someone (Deshawn, maybe?) with the "closing fingers" motion as a way of shutting them down both with words and hand gestures really, really, really grated on my nerves.

I mean, he was kind of acting like a baby at that moment, but it's stupid to say it while trying to  pretend that you value his opinion.

I’m pretty sure she said something to Dashawn about not wanting to baby him. I don’t see him wanting to continue to work with her long term.

The edgic people are back on the Shan train or totally confused now. Very weird edit so far. Funny to watch it happen.

I dislike Shan a lot. I (predictably) like Danny, Deshawn, and Xander because that's more or less my Survivor game if I ever got picked. Liana sure does cry a lot. I used to dislike Evvie but now for some reason I wouldn't mind a win from her as much.

Her only real TV time has been:

1. Failing miserably at a reward challenge

2. Throwing a hissy fit that she was a name for the decoy vote, awkwardly trying to change the plan at tribal, and almost convincing her alliance to vote for her legitimately because of it. 

Someone(s) on the production/editing team doesn't like her and/or doesn't want us to like her. 

 
I liked Shan early on but haven’t been a fan of her game as this season has progressed. She’s got potential to have a very good social game, she’s got a natural ability to connect with people, but then takes two steps back by being overly controlling and confrontational. 
 

Her edit is confusing though. She’ll either end up being the sole survivor or is being set up for a massive blindside. Ricard is getting a villains edit, maybe he’s the mastermind behind the blindside?

but to just come over and grab it- however small- showed a genuine lack of sensitivity, empathy, understanding or compassion. "I just wanted to try it" isn't exactly a great apology either.

does make me think of a boss "starchitect" I used to work for (Rafael Vinoly). I worked 100 hour weeks because he understaffed everything. He paid us ####. We would get $4 on weekends for meals (and I worked every weekend)... in SoHo NYC- you could barely buy a bag of chips for $4... so we'd pool our money and get a pizza or something. I remember one time he scheduled a Saturday, 8pm meeting... had his driver pull around the back, came in, and started eating our pizza before he headed out to some fancy dinner party.

that's the first thing I thought of watching Ricard eating that papaya.

The thing I couldn’t handle being in this show would be the starvation and then when someone set me off I’d freak out I think. 

That I knew this guy just ate grilled cheese and then touched my GD papaya - I’d want to choke him out  :lmao:

The first half of this episode, her edit was like another winner's... the general rule is the winner is never shown making a mistake, never cast in a bad light, but, (and I can't remember which season this happened most noticeably), sometimes they do include the winner making a bad play, but it's immediately followed by what they learned and how they handed it and how they turned it around. It turns into a journey-edit, following their progress to the top. When Shan first shut down Deshawn, but then talked with him after... it was kind of like that. But then, as the episode continued, that all just went off the rails. 

 But then I have to assume everything in the preview for next week is a red herring, so, it could just be this one episode is a blip and then she's back..?

they don't let them do that....if they could it probably would have been happening in every season....I've often wondered if players could try to sneak some back....maybe they do and we just never know, but obviously the show doesn't allow that...

This makes sense. 
 

Shan was the main reason why the steal-an-idol advantage blew up I their face, and yet, she did not get a terribly bad edit for that mistake. 
 

You’re probably on to something, this could be the makings of a redemption story.

I haven't watched every season- but I know the contestants have done this before, and I don't remember it being outlawed. I always wondered about it too- seems such an easy thing to do, especially when you're sitting down with overflowing piles of stuff you'll never be able to eat.

What's bad TV is the producer's incessant need to "surprise us" with who gets voted out, instead of letting us see how the decision is made.

Every episode... every time... even with the last tribal, the last thing the audience hears is a nine-person agreement to vote out Heather, everyone is on board, Deshawn agrees to it, "OK, time to vote", and suddenly... what? It's back to the original plan?

Why aren't we shown this? It's five minutes of whispering and audience confusion traded for twenty seconds of suspense when the votes are read???

Someone snuck food back on a recent season of Survivor Australia, the host said "it's your game, what should the punishment be? I don't get involved with it." I think he was trying to push them to all say 'if a player breaks the game rules, it's up to us the players to enforce it by voting the person out', which none of them wanted to actually do. But the precedent I guess now is that the game rules don't matter if the players decide not to enforce them?? Who knows if the same applies to Survivor US. Rules without consequences aren't really rules.

i love it when they don't show us everything.  like xander and his idol.  i don't like the whispering at TC.  watching deshaun, i thought he was talking about the original plan, when he was over it and just wanted to vote.

I am assuming it is not allowed because if it was, that would be a HUGE part of the game.....

I don't recall it ever happening....(at least out in the open)...or even in secret that I can recall, because I have literally asked myself that question every time there is a feast and I think I would have remembered it if it happened...

I recall one time somebody had peanut butter that they were stashing and maybe shared it with somebody....but thats about as much as I remember...

we just watched an old season... can't remember which, but one in which most everybody in the final 12 were pretty decent with each other. they brought a bunch of food back from a "local feast", hidden in their pockets but clearly shown in the edit.

was it people bringing it back and sharing with other people that weren't at the feast....or they were ALL at the feast and they just brought some back....sharing it with others that weren't there is obviously kinda the key part

Fair, but, it's never even explained after the vote. Not even the credits scenes help. It's impossible to follow along with any player's strategy, from home, everyone appears to be voting randomly.
