What's bad TV is the producer's incessant need to "surprise us" with who gets voted out, instead of letting us see how the decision is made.

Every episode... every time... even with the last tribal, the last thing the audience hears is a nine-person agreement to vote out Heather, everyone is on board, Deshawn agrees to it, "OK, time to vote", and suddenly... what? It's back to the original plan?

Why aren't we shown this? It's five minutes of whispering and audience confusion traded for twenty seconds of suspense when the votes are read???
i love it when they don't show us everything.  like xander and his idol.  i don't like the whispering at TC.  watching deshaun, i thought he was talking about the original plan, when he was over it and just wanted to vote.

But it's not (for me, anyway) about not showing everything.  It's about what they do show and their apparent need to constantly edit in a way to mislead the audience about what's happening.

Similar to challenges when down to two people, like the latest immunity challenge - the second Jeff pointed out that Evvie was struggling, right after they showed Heather (?) solid as a rock, you knew Evvie was going to win.

Maybe they switch up that editing strategy more often than I realize or am acknowledging, but if they want to keep the audience on their toes, they should switch it up more often.

yea, the editing is lame sometimes.  i wonder if jeff is doing voice over work later.  i'll often pause on the overhead drone type shots to see if what jefff is saying is actually happening.  it usually is, but sometimes a puzzle is nearly done and there's no drama.  or someone is waaaaaay out in the lead.     gotta create drama.

I knew Evvie was going to win the challenge when it got down to her and Heather, and I remembered that most of the pre-challenge strategic talk was about booting Evvie. This is another editing trope they do all the time.

What kind of idiot has an extra vote and splits those votes when either vote would make a majority? It's flat out wasted. So dumb.
There was zero risk to Shan (or her closest ally Ricard). Put 3 votes on Naseer to get him out, and if he plays his idol, Heather goes out with 2 votes. She's not closely allied with either of them. This smacked of galaxy-brain-ness.

Unless Ricard talked her into flushing her extra vote like he tried to talk Xander into flushing his idol last week...

Well, the risk was if Naseer plays his idol and Heather/Erica decided to vote Ricard or Shan. If Naseer plays his idol, it's 2-2 and the revote is Naseer and Erica vs Shan or Ricard, assuming Naseer is unhappy that his allies voted for him. Using the extra vote to make sure Heather had 3 as well meant that if Naseer plays his idol then Heather gets voted off and no tie to worry about. Basically, 3 votes for Naseer and Heather means that Shan and Ricard have no risk. Without the extra vote there is a risk that Heather and Erica don't vote Naseer and he plays an idol.

Also, Xander really is a moron. He said tonight's vote was important and he left it 5-3 when he was guaranteed 4-4 with Deshawn potentially jumping ship. If he plays his idol for Evvie, the one person who wanted him off the most is gone. I know the idol gives him a little respite, but he can't win without any idols. Heck, at 5-3 they can force him to play his idol.

After seeing Naseer gone, wouldn't you think if Liana is gone that you've got the advantage especially because Deshawn would likely be a much easier flop without a guaranteed advantage.

Yeah. Also guaranteed Shan and Ricard had control of any revote.

Yeah....not a lot of geniuses this season.

Poor Nasir. At least you know he'll still probably have have time of his life at ponderosa.

We were dying when he tried to clap after claiming he'd lost all feeling in his hands. Just hilarious combined with the goofy look on his face.

Only redeeming quality of this season.  Dude is a gem

Wanted to see Shan blindsided last night but at least her extra vote is flushed.  Hate her condescending tone when she talks to people like Deshaun. She claims she wants to hear his opinions but everyone knows she just doesn't value the opinions of others.  She wants what she wants.

How about Liana trying to play the Shan jedi-mind trick on Xander?  "If you'd give me your idol you'd earn my trust... I won't play it tonight, just to hold so I can trust you."   :lmao:   JD would have fallen for it.

Yeah, shan is very used to saying "I hear what you're saying" but giving absolutely no thought to it. She's gonna do what what wants to do

Just praying she doesn't make it to the end. Totally insufferable

Shout out to all the "Queer" kids?   Hard to believe Evvie really said after getting voted out.  All over local radio this morning. Some gays calling in an not liking that comment.

Queer: Strange and odd, a dated offensive term for a homosexual person.

It's right there in LGBTQ.

With lots of friends in the community, this is a non-issue.

Unfortunately, Deshawn doesn’t have the support. Danny and Liana are followers. You know Shan told Liana about her JD Jedi move and Liana tried it. Ricard is not a follower but I think he gets that he can’t go against Shan yet. The bottom feeders like Nasir aren’t strong enough to see the big picture so Erica, Heather and Xander will just go one by one like Evvie did. Xander really put a fork in that. Evvie, Heather, Erica and Xander had a chance in one tribal to get rid of two of the top 6 (really a 5 but Naseer thought he was in the group) in one tribal and Xander blew it.

Loved it when Ricard snapped back at her "I don't care".

I sorta liked the divided teams at the IC and separate TCs.  Had Erika's team had Xander instead of Nasir, that first TC might have gone another way. It prevents a large alliance from just picking off the bottom dwellers.

Yep. I'm sure that's why the show has done this a few times in recent seasons. It also gave us one of the few good postmerge moments in S39, when Missy, who had been treating Karishma horribly all game but was keeping her around as a goat, got booted after Karishma and Elaine turned on her.

Yeah, the divided tribal was actually a good twist. Yes, the 2 were randomly separated (which could screw someone in a sort of unfair way) but everyone knew the stakes going into the challenge so it was something you could prep for. And it wasn't overly convoluted or against the spirit of the game like the stupid hour glass thing.  Big fan

Once Xander won immunity, I would have liked to see him give the idol to Evie in front of the group and tell them that Evie is going to play this and we will be safe.  One of you 3 are going home.  Who do you want it to be?  Xander and Evie could basically decide who goes home.  The threat of this would make Deswawn vote for Liana and Liana vote for Deshawn.  With this threat of Evie using an idol, she wouldn't even have to play it, the threat would be enough for Deshawn and Liana to vote for each other.  They can't risk Evie not playing the idol.

Could have really turned those players against each other.  I understand Xander wanting to keep the idol for next week and beyond, but it was worth getting a player like Liana out of the game.

:goodposting: - actually great posting.

It was a lost opportunity for Xander-Evie. How they did not do something, anything, put put more pressure on the 3 is mind boggling. But I don't give them much credit for gameplay. Xander openly talking about voting out Liana while Danny was sitting right there (vs singling out Deshawn) put Deshawn in an impossible to convert position. Danny continuing to push for Evie after that was all Xander needed to know. If you believe the pre-vote confidence check, they were goofed in a way no good player would be goofed.

shan must be really really good at snowing people.  i can't believe people are following her.  it's unreal.  she's got this thing in the bag.  🤮  was her name even brought up?  or was that just editing?

on that note, it's ridiculous that deshawn thinks his alliance with shan, ricard, lianna and danny is all rock solid.  how could he think he  is anywhere but bottom 2 in that group?  and danny is just playing smartish.  he has the numbers and he aint wavering.  so if shan and ricard say it time for deshawn to go.  he gone.  he had the opportunity to shake things up last night, and keep his word to evvie, but no.

Nasseer is awesome.

But we NEED to get rid of Heather!!!   Good lord, Heather is terrible and not winning a thing.
As well as she should.  Which is why Shan pushing so hard for her to go this week was ridiculous.   How Heather even made it onto this show is a mystery.

Why would her name have even been brought up?  She was in the group of 3 in those 5 that was in the majority.  There was nothing Ericka or Heather could do about it.  The only reason Naseer was brought up and voted out was because Ricard wanted him gone.

It will be interesting to see what Ricard does now. Does he know that in the 5 dominant group (Ricard, Shan, Liliana, Danny, Deshawn) he is probably odd man out? If so, how does he maneuver with the other 3 to get one of the majority group out?

Naseer who is an actual threat. Which it was how it went down.
She's still counting numbers. Naseer has been a number for her. Heather wasn't. Anyway let's see who finds Naseers idol, if they follow past seasons.

I liked Shan early on but haven’t been a fan of her game as this season has progressed. She’s got potential to have a very good social game, she’s got a natural ability to connect with people, but then takes two steps back by being overly controlling and confrontational.

Her edit is confusing though. She’ll either end up being the sole survivor or is being set up for a massive blindside. Ricard is getting a villains edit, maybe he’s the mastermind behind the blindside?
just catching up on thread so...let's see I disliked Shan once she admitted having a theme song to her wrongdoings....as a pastor...way too serial killer for me...

Thanks fballguys for an outlet for this...

because the idea is to eliminate threats.  she has an idol and an extra vote.  nasseer should have played that angle, or his idol.  he was way to secure.  again, like deshawn, Nasseer is at the bottom of any 'power' alliance.  last night was the chance to blow up the game and both TC's missed.

Yeah, Xander really screwed the pooch. Naseer was still part of the big alliance so that helped, but Liana had to go instead of Evvie. Xander has to get rid of the person who wants him gone the most and he had that guaranteed. Now Liana is going to continue to say Xander has to go (just won immunity too) so as soon as he’s not protected he’s gone. If he gets rid of Liana, no one is “campaigning” for him to be gone.

Worst season ever.  Going Woke might kill the franchise.

Although it did produce the line about Ricard's gay, transgender, pregnant husband.   Did I forget anything?

He must have really gotten tricked. He's safe next week at least but he'll be the first one gone as soon as they can.

Not only that, Heather was (and presumably still is) a number for DeShawn, with whom Shan is fighting for control of the majority alliance.

Ricard complaining about his hearing was the most cringeworthy and pathetic Survivor moment that I can presently recall.
Was he complaining? I wasn't really paying attention...thought he was just bringing it up, and commenting on the difficulties of it in a social game. And of course wanting to be the first hearing impaired winner. That was the only cringey part I noticed.
