Survivor Season 42: Starts Wednesday March 9, 2022 (5 Viewers)

It is, per exit interviews. And we just saw Shan use it.
Saw Shan use what? She used the extra vote on the first vote. We didn't see her use it again on the revote?

Just watched the scene again on my DVR, she definitely does not use the extra vote on the re-vote. Only on the first vote. We don't see any indication that extra votes are reusable on the second vote.

Not positive how accurate Wikipedia is but it does show Naseer voted out 4-0 on the revote and Shan is listed as 2 votes on him.

This would have been great.  Keeps Evie AND the idol.  Would be worth it to use the extra vote.  The extra vote is perfect to either break a tie, or force a tie.  This was a great spot for that.

I don't know keeping Evie is helpful - she seemed like she was looking for her big play on the resume

All the votes were for Naseer. Jeff read three votes, which means there were four. If there were three votes, he would have read two. The third vote, not the second, was the deciding one, which means there had to have been four.

Yeah. And even the editing was well done this time...good episode. Looking forward to the mayhem that comes out of all this next week.
Shan just played too hard too soon.  She was great at the end though.  Makes me feel a little bad for not liking her.  Seasons getting really good now

That was awesome. Such poetic justice that Liana blabbing to Shan led to Shan blabbing to Ricard, and ultimately Shan being done in. All in the name of sisterhood - immediately after Liana had (correctly) decided she needed to claim her own independent game. The previews have Liana expressing outrage over trust with Danny/Deshawn being broken. That’s precious. Her own betrayal of trust was 100% the cause of Shan getting axed.

Shan’s plan was to put all the votes on Erika and confuse Xander so he plays his idol. Once Xander didn’t play his idol or show any discomfort, shouldn’t that have triggered to Shan that maybe her plan wasn’t followed and she should play her idol?

Yeah, I put this one on Liana.  I was yelling at Deshawn and Danny to be so stupid as to try to bring her in their anti-Ricard group, but that turned out to work to their advantage.  Without that, Ricard might not have turned on Shan as quickly.

I know the hate for Shan and Ricard has been strong here, but I much more despise Liana as a coattail-rider who's made no moves of her own and was relying on the Black alliance and "that moment with Shan" to get her through.  Blech.  Loving Deshawn right now.  And #### it, Ricard too.

The editors crafted a really good arc this episode, and it's been building to it all season. They've done well.

Even while Liana was describing her game play epiphany, I told my wife "I give it 5 minutes until she blabs." Not sure I've turned a corner on Ricard but I respect him more as a scrambling target than the front runner heel he's been. Erika disrupting a perfect 5 vote blindside by involving Danny moved her below Liana/Ricard for me. By all rights that should have backfired horribly on her.

Shan was a hypocrite calling Deshaun "a snake" after she was gloating earlier in the season about fooling and manipulating others. Now she gets fooled and, oh, that's different.

So glad that she is out.  :pickle:

Xander put her at ease with his answer to Jeff's opening question at TC. Shan got overly confident and thought she ran the game. Xander is growing on me, he's good at reading people and playing them.

Yeah, after saying Ricard had her vote for $1M. She may be a tad surprised when she watches an airing of that episode.

I thought for sure that Danny was going go back to Shan with the plan, Shan would play her idol, and Erika would go home.

I get the why of Erika not wanting to risk her game on Shan not playing her idol, but bringing in an extra person for the blindside seemed much riskier.

It is always comical when ringleaders who have been lying, and sneaky getting other people voted out get blindsided themselves. Then get mad for being blindsided and backstabbed.

It is part of the game. Shan was making too many decisions and she had to go. It is too bad as she was playing really good but needed to dial it down a notch as she was becoming a target.

The other sister has no game at all so she will probably be carried to the end.

Liana is drawing dead unless she gets a surprise F2 with Heather. Even Erika beats her at this point.

Hot damn! I couldn’t stand Shan, but she left well. Not sure if she meant to put a target on Ricard but I think she was actually giving him credit for an amazing play. Pulling off that blindside and keeping 6 people who weren’t with each other quiet was impressive and kudos to Erika for a plan to make sure she was safe.

This season just got way more interesting. I will be glad when Liana goes home. I never liked her and her weird almost borderline hatred of Xander. Shan saw a person she could mold into a subordinate and did it. Liana thought they were equals and I think Shan is just great at manipulating but Ricard saw through it. Deshawn did as well.

Deshawn and Ricard are clearly the best players left. I think Erika may have a good strategic mind as well, but I don’t know if she has enough allies to make the rest of the game go in her favor.

Dunno if she knew it at the moment, but she had to have figured out eventually that everyone was in on the plan except her and Liana.

She clearly didn’t know anything before the votes were read or she plays her idol. She definitely knew it was just her and Liana after the votes were read so plenty of time for her to react or plan her reaction as 6 people walked up to vote again. She may have planned that but it didn’t feel that way to me just they way she reacted with Jeff. IMHO she really had a graceful exit because she realized she got outplayed first. That honestly surprised me a bit based on her previous reactions.

I think Erika is a good strategist but I don’t think she’s good socially. Heather appears in her back pocket but I think Heather is basically a lap dog with a vote at this point. Erika is only around at this point in the game because 1) her original tribe never lost team immunity, 2) she was gifted a twist be safe and 3) Ricard decided this was the moment. I liked that she was smart enough to get herself safe with a split vote although I’m sure more than her saw Liana as a good backup vote because she was 100% Shan’s disciple. If Shan plays her idol you have to take out her lieutenant to make Shan more vulnerable next vote. Erika may be smart but she’s lucky to still be around.

Also, Xander is in great shape now if he slides a bit and becomes a number. Let Liana piss people off and become the next vote. He still doesn’t have any real allies left so infighting and winning II are his best hopes.

I think Shan is just great at manipulating but Ricard saw through it. Deshawn did as well.
said to my wife that it felt like (hard to say for sure) Shan made sure to shmooze and manipulate one on one and rarely, if ever, in group settings.

yeah, she would exert her opinion when discussing who to vote for, but i got the feeling that she did most of her manipulating when alone with 1 person.

she must have been superlative at building people up and making them feel special.. except she got impatient with Deshawn and snapped at him. kind of blew her cover.

Ricard was the only one who seems to have instantly recognized her shtick and didn't get sucked in.

Possible Ricard realized he wasn’t in Shan final four and just a number for her.

He 100% knew that and they both knew that they couldn’t take each other to the end. He saw the opening of telling Deshawn what Shan said to open Liana and Shan to being untrustworthy and took the ball and ran. With those 4 being tight, he needed that seed and it was the best move of the game so far.

Even more interesting, when Ricard went to those 3 and said he wanted to vote out Shan and that right now with his vote it would be 4-4 and they only needed a 5th, why didn't Xander offer up his extra vote?

And SHE went behind Deshaun's back first by telling Ricard about the blindside they were planning.

It's a fair question, though I can't remember if it is common knowledge.

If not, I respect any player not blabbing advantages. It's so rare now. In this context, I think it was wise. Telling someone like Ricard that you have an extra vote in addition to your idol - that can change everything. Even if it doesn't change Ricard's target, there's no reason to think Ricard will be an ally beyond this vote. If I'm Xander, I say 'yeah go get the 5th' and just be happy my name is 3rd in the pecking order.

Believe they might target him to flush his idol.  Plus Alina is a lone wolf at this point so why target her..

Dislike Shan and Liana... However, Ricard is growing on me.  He has been very good in challenges and strategically.

Seeing how the vote was 6-2 and now 6-1, people like the easy vote. Why if you’re one of the 6 do you leave Liana around? One more week to stay alive, easy decision.

Shan did say that "they" want to split us up to Ricard.  That's a pretty clear statement that she is in and he is out while they extract a little power away from her.

So Ricard wins reward, and picks Shan. Danny and DeShawn think they're too much of a power couple. So:

1) Danny and DeShawn approach Liana to suggest weakening Shan by blindsiding Ricard

2) Liana is loyal to Shan, so goes behind Danny and DeShawn and tells Shan about their plan

3) Shan tells this to Ricard and says they should blindside DeShawn.

But then, Ricard wins immunity so there's no need to upset the alliance to save him, so:

4) Shan suggests they take out Erika but not tell Xander, so that hopefully Xander will be so paranoid he plays his idol

However,

5) Ricard decides it's time to get rid of Shan before she gets rid of him, so he gets Heather, Erika and Xander to say they'll work with him

6) Ricard then gets DeShawn involved by telling him Shan knows from Liana that they were gunning for him, and instead, now's the time to take out Shan

7) DeShawn gets Danny to go along with taking out Shan

8 ) DeShawn says that the fake-name vote that Shan and Liana are putting down is Erika, Erika gets nervous. Erika and Heather go to Danny to ask if they can do 3-3 and Shan and Liana in case Shan plays the idol

9) Danny thinks Erika is playing too hard and goes to DeShawn to decide who, between Shan and Erika, they should take out.

Whew.

One of the rare times the tribe accurately figured out who the biggest threat was and banded together to get them out while they're on top.  This group has a bunch of people playing a good game right now.

Ricard and Erika and Xander are going to be tough to beat, but Deshawn and Danny have played pretty good too overall.  Liana is likely DOA without Shan, and Heather will end up being the goat.

I agree it is those 5.  Ricard is growing on me as well, his gameplay has been really solid.  Erika really almost screwed that up royally but I understand why she did.

Updated rankings:

Come on guys, lets win!

  • Danny - Still like him by a pretty wide margin
  • Xander - Has done a really solid job of knowing when to play or hold an idol or advantage
  • Deshawn - Solid player but barely made this tier
Begrudging respect

  • Ricard - Excellent selections on who to take to the advantage and savage take out of Shan
  • Erika - It could have backfired horribly but a solid decision to split the vote once she knew her name was the fake name
Goat being drug to the end

  • Heather - No words needed
Only person left who would make me mad if they won

  • Liana - Drips with unearned arrogance

Yeah, after saying Ricard had her vote for $1M. She may be a tad surprised when she watches an airing of that episode.

I think she knew exactly what she was doing when she told Ricard he had her vote.  It was her exit payback jab, imo.  She probably appreciates his game-play for pulling that off but she is always one to have the last word.  She knew it would immediately put a target on his back and she wants him to join her at Ponderosa to talk about it.  Could be the editing but they showed his face when she said that and he looked like "crap... why would you say that?!"

Could be. Shan doesn't seem like the subtle type... her angered comment about Deshawn being a snake coupled with any dispassionate subtle sabotaging seems like a stretch for her personality. I don't think she had any idea what happened, or suspected Ricard was working with the people who wanted Ricard out. I think it's more likely she put a target on his back not understanding it in the moment, because she can't control herself.

Will be interesting to see if it ends up like Wardog taking out Wentworth in S38. It was a huge move … and raised his threat level so high that he was booted next.
