Taboo - Tom Hardy/Ridley Scott Production (FX 1/10/17) (1 Viewer)

No, go back to HGTV.  In all reality it was more of the same.  If you like it, keep watching, if not, well don't.
Good call, Episode 3 will have been my last. At least I never succumbed to using close captioning to understand that damn Delaney fella.

I am going to stay till the end.  It isn't like there is a ton of good competing programs.  What are you going to watch instead ?  The Blacklist?

show needs more car chases, explosions, mass shootings and techno

other than that, still all in

eta: oh, werewolves, chicks fighting, ham-handed intros of heavily stereotyped detectives that get killed in 2 episodes and kung fu fighting skills from the main characters

I agree.  We need a super spy chick on here with tattoos.  And a nerdy computer guy.  Or maybe a cabal of super geniuses who figure stuff out real good.

totally.

or... some character development and more story.

but I'm in until the end. there's enough there that's compelling- mostly tone and actors- that's better than a lot of other stuff. but tip-top this ain't... so far.

See, I'm completely in on this now. I've made peace with the CC and am a better man for it.  The supernatural jump cuts and flashbacks are not doing it for me though.

I watch the Walking Dead on DVR after the family's gone to sleep. I keep it low, and turn on the CC... have gotten used to and actually like using the CC now. I normally don't have a problem understanding marble-mushy-mouthed brits... but Hardy's pushing it for me.

Hardy seems like he really takes a lot of pride in his voice work.  Bane comes to mind, but also the part in the Revenant.  He's pretty good at it.

Or some breasteses

watched 3 episodes.  nothing much happened but people got raped or stabbed.  And someone bought a boat.

Could condense the first 4 episodes into 2, easily.

Sorry you guys don't like plot. I'm still enjoying it thus far. I will admit these could be hour long instead of an hour and a half but things are happening

Gunpowder, duels, murder, betrayal, incest, drinking, etc. Kinda like most Game of Thrones seasons that people ##### about while they build storylines until they "get good". It's 8 episodes. Enjoy the Bachelor

I'm still in and watching... what are there, 2 episodes left?  Is this an 8, or 10 show arc?  I like it but I don't think the show really hit the mark they were aiming for.

One of the few shows I catch the night it's on or the night after.  One of my favorites.  The best.  Just the best show.

Huge show.

Binge-watched over the last few days to get caught up. Enjoying it. Haven't really felt like it was too slow so far.

It got entertaining at the end although there were some plot issues and you did have to suspend belief on the reality of some situations.

I'd give it a 7 out of 10.  It could have been shorter and more pointed.  They also could have filled some of the extra time with better character development.  I think the Secret Correspondence characters needed more development and could have filled in a plot issue at the end.

They did well on the setting and most of the acting was very good.  Acting was a little better than the writing on this show.

He's lost a few million dollars making it so far, i just found out. I figured Taboo was a perfect example to look up for what a star "above" doing TV might make on a short-season series as creator/star and it turns out he bankrolled it, too. Guts, muck and beaver hats are totes cher, i guess. So Netflix/DVD revenues will likely determine the next move.

Liked it.  Was this one season only?
Hardy sez pretty much yeah .

To help avoid confusion... that link is not Hardy saying pretty much yeah to "was this one season only?"

It is Hardy saying pretty much yeah to does he expect there will be a second season.

Despite the BBC saying ‘no decision’ has been made about another run for the dark drama, star and creator Hardy thinks differently.

...
And when they quizzed the actor about the BBC giving season two the green light, he simply replied: ‘Oh god, yeah.’

His production company lost a few million is all I've read so far.  Did he get a salary that is part of the loss?

Dunno. I'm curious about the money - in & out - on these limited ep series on untraditional platforms and such. The upfront money was nice but not transformative in my last experience as a TV comedy writer (1982) when the worst bombs on a network got 14 million viewers. Now there are movie-quality shows considering themselves hits with a half million viewers. Must be the new math or sumn - what am i missing?

curious about a 2nd season as well since he says at the end where they are headed and why.  seems like the door to a second season is open.

Season 2 likely depends on whether they can get Benicio del Toro to play Colonnade, because the S2 budget only has room for interior scenes and no one lesser than del Toro can match Hardy's conversational abilities. Watch for Taboo, S2 - My Mumble with Andre, fall 2018 on FX.

Wait, things aren't the same as they were 35 years ago??   :P

he pronounced it Azordes, i swear

i knew he meant Azores but maybe it was spelled Azordes then?
No, he just gave it the 3-syllable A-zo-res(w poorly rolled R) pronunciation.

ETA: I'm used to the sound from 30 yrs of hearing anglo tourists to NM pronouncing Spanish words.
