TE Colby Parkinson - LAR (2 Viewers)

Folks are sleeping on this dude. Rams brought him in to be the starting in-line TE, historically a pretty solid place for FF TE production.

I claimed him for $1 last year out of desperation due to injury & was planning on dropping him, but forgot.

Anyone looking for cheap production at TE, especially in TE-P leagues, should be checking their FA list to see if Parkinson is available.

He's more like having an extra Right Tackle to run the football with, Rams are sending signals they plan on running the ball a lot
He's not much of a pass catching threat but that's not what they signed him for.
Should be helpful inside the 5 yard line

From what I’ve read he’s very much a pass-catching threat, and McVay has said that’s how they intend on using him.

Perhaps, you could be right, but I've been thinking Davis Allen was the one they are sleeping on.

Maybe - I dunno. They made Parkinson a priority signing during FA, and McVay said some stuff that perked my ear up.

The timing was consistent with reports of Higbee’s timeline for recovery, too.

Maybe he hits, maybe not, but should be pretty affordable to find out.

100% agree. Davis Allen is the sneaky name here, though its also possible TE is an afterthought, other than a couple PA/bunny TDs.

We’ll see. Parkinson’s is 6’7”, 250, and had a couple nice seasons at Stanford, albeit TD-dependent.

Seattle never really used him as an in-line receiver, but it sure sounds like the rams are going to.

He fits the athletic profile of a move TE. And IMO he’s the TE to own in LA.

But yeah, time will tell.

The Rams total TE production last season was 62-668-3 last season. That was with Cooper Kupp missing essentially 6 games.

And the year before that Higbee went 72/620/3

So…

I’d say if you get anything resembling that from Parkinson that’s a score in TE-P considering he’s basically free.

Does 2022 matter? Kupp missed half the season and Puka was in college. Higbee was all they had for much of that season.

I have a hard time seeing Parkinson (or Allen for that matter) being higher than 5th in the pecking order behind Puka, Kupp, Robinson, and Kyren.

It matters in the context of the point you weee trying to make about Rams TEs catching passes. E.g. McVay coaching philosophy.

but we don’t know what we don’t know.
I’d say it’s TBD. They went out and immediately signed Parkinson to a 3-year deal so clearly the Rams felt they needed him. And again, at 6’7” he brings a lot of size to the red zone, something they lacked a bit last year.

But my overarching point was more about value. A lot of us play in TE-P leagues, some requiring 2 TEs. Both my TE-P leagues are 16 team, so finding any TE that’s gonna have ~500 yards & a handful of TDs can be a weekly difference maker.

Parkinson is under the radar right now and he’s dirt cheap if not free. I’m not planting a flag, just pointing out some value.

Take it or don’t - the advice doesn’t cost you a thing.

Davis Allen played 2 games without Higbee last year and caught 4 passes in each game.

One of those games was a bit flukey, the week 18 game they rested players, but in the context of him being just a rookie and the light production they got out of TE’s it seemed like a pretty good start.

I understand appeal of Parkinson’s contract but it’s also pretty similar to the contract the Vikings made a priority of giving out last year to Josh Oliver to be a strong blocking TE2 in their offense.

Really I don’t know. Hard to think any of them are a bonanza but in TE premium leagues, especially the best ball format, the pickings get super slim and if there is clear starter he’s someone you’d want to draft in that format.

Parkinson isn’t an exclusive blocking tight end though. He doesn’t comp well to Oliver. If I recall correctly, he was more of an in-line receiver at Stanford. Seattle just had a crowded tight end room.

I picked both Parkinson and Allen up a month or so ago. Seemed like a nice pathway to targets in a good O. Easy drops it nothing happens early.

This is generally how I play tight end though. I refuse to play TEP which just seems silly to me, so it's a fairly worthless position in my league, and I treat it that way by investing almost nothing in it. Jake Ferguson plucked off the waivers last year will likely do me just fine.

I take kind of the same approach in tight end premium. Shockingly, in my must-start 2 tight end league, I won the whole thing with bargain bin guys like Schultz and Kmet last year.

“McVay said recently that [Colby] Parkinson will add ‘real value’ to the Rams offense this season and he’s impressed in practice already with his size and catch radius at 6-foot-7. He can be an impactful player right away this season if Higbee is out for the start of the season.”

If its the last round of a draft, I'd take Davis Allen over Parkinson. Entering his 2nd season, could be time for him to leap into the TE role there.
6'7'' 251 vs 6'6'' 245. So that's basically a wash.
I'd imagine Higbee is out on PUP to start the season. And then will still need time to be cleared and ready to play. So for half a season, someone there might be useful.
But again, last round of a draft.

Parkinson signed a 3 year deal with $10M fully guaranteed. Anything is possible with Davis Allen I guess but just looking at Parkinson’s contract I’m guessing he’ll get first shot with a pretty long leash… at least in 2024.

"Colby Parkinson, tight end: Parkinson, acquired in free agency this spring, will be the No. 1 tight end in this offense when the Rams are in 11 personnel."

Excellent article by Jourdan. Blurb for every single Rams player 👇

He looked like a legit threat in the game. He only got 5 targets but caught 4 of them. I think there is a good chance that he could be a solid TE2 this year.

49 pass attempts from Stafford in week 1 makes him more appealing. Would love to see Parkinson join the breakfast club with Stafford to gain some chemistry.

Don’t like the low target share 10-12%? But with Puka out I’m sure he will be a bit increased in the passing game. Would expect 15-18% target share at 10-12 YPR going forward, perhaps even goal line looks with the big body. He averages .9 TDS per every 10 receptions so we’re onto something!

A lot around here seem quite high on him with Puka out and Kupp an injury risk himself.
Think he’s a solid play in PPR.
prolly nothing special but receptions and red zone usage would be nice.

He was free in dynasty a few weeks ago so this is a pleasant surprise

I picked him up in all 3 of my dynasty leagues prior to week 1, I have never invested in a stud TE in dynasty always just picking up the junk from the free agent pool. Seems to work, not much difference in any given year between TE 6 and TE 12.

I have Ferguson in 2 out of 3 of those leagues, also just grabbed off free agency after Luke shoonmaker(SP) was drafted in the 3rd rounds of rookie dynasty drafts. I think I will play Parkinson over a hobbled Ferguson.

What say The Ram homies this week?
Is Colby going to be viable?
Or P the bed again?
not a homer but I got off him, a week too late. I heard it mentioned he would be in more to block with their line issues. That game was so out of hand and they got a guy back so I dont know his route participation. Of course I switched to Hunter Henry who got nothing. Whole situation may be an avoid. I'd go with Strange if you're streaming, bills seem to leave room underneath
