TE Darren Waller, MIA (2 Viewers)

NTTIAWWT

I'm so glad ESPN modified that headline.  The original version didn't have the words "of lineup", and I thought that they were saying that his recovery made it difficult for him to come out as gay.

I had to read the entire article to understand what they really meant.

Aaron Nagler of CheeseheadTV reports the Packers are targeting Darren Waller in a trade with the Raiders.

Take this with a gigantic grain of salt, but Nagler has been covering the Packers for a very long time. Waller turns 30 in September and has two years left on his contract, but he's coming off an injury-plagued down season that saw him miss six games en route to a 55-665-2 receiving line where he appeared to take more of a back seat to Hunter Renfrow. The Raiders have now added target-dominator Davante Adams, and the word from Nagler is the Packers and Raiders discussed Waller as part of that Adams trade, but league rules prohibited Waller's inclusion because a franchise-tagged player (Adams) can't be traded for a non-tagged player like Waller. Las Vegas is scheduled to make its first pick in this week's draft at No. 86. Flipping Waller to a starved-for-pass-catchers team like Green Bay in exchange for a high pick would make some sense.

Rumor has it Waller was going to be part of the Adams trade, but wasn't allowed to be because of league rules. Waller signed with a new agent which tends to imply wanting a new deal, he was a Gruden guy, Moreau is a solid TE, and they only have 1 pick in the top-100.

I could certainly see something happening here, although personally, I think its likely a mistake by the Raiders if they do.

Well, it kind of depends on what the Packers give back in such a trade. I think the breakeven point would be getting the first from the Adams trade back. Although like you I think Moreau is pretty solid and if he wasn't there I'd be a lot more inclined to tell GB where to go

Had heard a while back he was being shopped due to age and expected cost. This is one to watch!!

Packers targeting Raiders tight end Darren Waller

The team tried to trade for the veteran when they sent Davante Adams to Las Vegas.

... the Packers are targeting a veteran tight end. Specifically, Las Vegas Raiders tight end Darren Waller. The Packers and Raiders have engaged in talks regarding a trade of Waller with an eye toward a deal getting done during this week’s NFL draft.

Waller is also apparently the player the Packers were trying to pry away from the Raiders during the negotiations around the trade of Davante Adams, a move that was nixed when both sides were reminded that league rules prohibit players being part of compensation for a trade of a player on an unsigned franchise tag.

If I'm the Packers and the Raiders ask for the 1st back for Waller I'd be inclined to tell LV where to go

ESPN's Jeremy Fowler reports that there is "zero chance" Raiders TE Darren Waller will be traded.

Well, that would seem to settle that thread. It may or may not be true that Waller was actually offered to the Packers in the initial Davante Adams trade, but either way it seems like the Raiders are happy with the way that worked out for them. Waller has almost no guaranteed money left on his deal, and probably deserves a raise at some point in the near future.

Appearing on CBS Sports Radio Wednesday night, Darren Waller said the Raiders told him he's not going to be traded.

“They said that’s not a thing that’s happening and there’s no trade that’s going to happen,” Waller said. Waller was the subject of a wild Waller-to-Packers trade rumor earlier in the week, but it sounds like just that, a mere social media rumor. While the Packers very likely would be interested in a player like Waller, it doesn't look like they'll be getting him. Green Bay remains on the lookout for pass-catching help.

The Las Vegas Review Journal's Vincent Bonsignore reports there's a "sense" that Darren Waller and the Raiders will eventually workout a contract extension.

Waller has little guaranteed money on his current deal, which is set to expire after the 2023 season. The soon-to-be 30-year-old tight end has been one of the more productive tight ends in recent years, totaling 252 receptions for 3,006 yards and 14 touchdowns over the last three seasons. Waller dealt with injuries for part of 2021, appearing in just 11 games throughout the season. Bonsignore does point out that Waller may have to play 2022 under his current deal, with an extension being prioritized ahead of the 2023 season. Assuming a clean bill of health, Waller should be locked in as a top fantasy tight end once again. His 60.5 receiving yards per game ranked fifth among tight ends last season.

Wasted an early draft pick on Waller last season. Now with Adams, an improved Renfrow, & injury recovery with Moreau in the wings I remain skeptical on value here. I'm not sure the volume or scoring will be there for Waller to remain a top TE.

Feel the same, although I think he has a good chance at being top 5 at the position given that outside of Kelce/Andrews/Pitts, all the other TEs - including Waller - are likely secondary passing options on their teams. Just not sure what significant value that top 5 brings, unless maybe in TE premium leagues.

Add Kittle to that list as I think he's a better option than Waller but otherwise I agree with you. Not tons of value to spread around after the top 5 TEs. Almost better to stream at the position rather than a weekly plug and play with lower tier options.

I don't have the stats in front of me but McD at HC is another question mark. Post Brady/Gronk did he use TEs much other than safety valves most of the time? Obviously talent level at those positions dipped after those guys left but that's why it's an unknown at this point. In terms of the Raiders passing attack it looks like Adams/Renfrow are going to benefit the most, then Moreau may eat into snap count as well.

Raiders TE Darren Waller said the team plans to use him more in the red-zone this season.

"There was a lot of times in the last couple years where I felt like there wasn't a clear defined attack in the red zone or a plan for me specifically. Now I kind of feel like that's something that's in place." Waller set three-year lows in an injury-shortened 2021, scoring two touchdowns on 15 red-zone targets. That should change under Josh McDaniels, who could use Waller similar to how the Patriots used Rob Gronkowski. Waller missed the Raiders' first two preseason games with a hamstring injury but could return to practice this week.

Raiders coach Josh McDaniels doesn't "feel comfortable making a prediction" on Darren Waller's (hamstring) status for Week 1 against the Chargers.

Waller briefly made his return to the practice field last week but has since found himself back on the sidelines with his pulled hammy. It sure sounds like he could miss regular-season action. Waller is missing key reps in McDaniels' new offense and with Derek Carr, as he continues to show a strong rapport with Davante Adams and Hunter Renfrow. Waller is looking like a risky, injury-prone early-round TE1 pick.

I’m assuming JMD is going to revamp the passing game a bit. He hasn’t had a talent of Adam’s’ level since Moss (although different talents) at WR, and hasn’t had a talent of Waller’s level since Gronk (also different). He also has to modify from Brady to Carr. The Raiders are going to be, for me, one of the more interesting storylines this season. So much unknown, but soooo much talent.

Everyone has been so fixated on the running game for obvious reasons, but just kind of waving their hands in the air for what this passing game will actually look like.

Darren Waller (hamstring, contract) is practicing Wednesday.

Waller didn't practice much, if at all, during training camp and was said to be dealing with a hamstring issue. With reports coming out this week that Waller was working on an extension and switched agents to Drew Rosenhaus, one can now assume Waller was more or less "holding in" until given a new contract. Coach Josh McDaniels said he's "excited" to have Waller back on the field. It sounds like the big tight end will be ready to roll for Week 1 against the Chargers.

This offseason situation really complicated a lot of "experts" opinion of Waller and I think it also affected the consensus TE strategy afaik.

Earlier this offseason I always heard 5 TEs were at the top (Kelce, Andrews, Pitts, and Waller/Kittle).

When this hamsting news broke, it then compounded with Waller's previous time missed last season and it grew into a talking point to say Waller is downgraded out of the top tier TE's due to 'injury-prone' tag and talking points on Davante Adams taking Redzone targets away from Waller.

Thankfully, this agent thing really was fishy and hopefully we were collectively able to recognize this as a 'hold-in' before the bulk of the drafts.

Pitts taken in 3rd and I got Waller in the 5th off of ESPN and he still had that little injury icon next to him to scare away folks. I will take that exchange any day.

Anyone else high on Waller?

I'd say I like him better than Pitts. Situation just seems more stable and explosive.

Plus 1 here,I like waller more than Pitts , Pitts is unstoppable but that qb and offense will be low end. Raiders will be explosive and waller if healthy will go big time nuts

I’m not high on him but 5th round should end up being a good value. I had planned on pitts in the third but had a huge value drop in my lap there and had the same thing happen.

I think the addition of Devante Adams will elevate the offense as a whole. Waller may have less receptions but more touchdowns than usual. Carr should also score more touchdowns.

Darren Waller (hamstring, contract) said he plans to play in Sunday's Week 1 game against the Chargers.

Waller sat out much of training camp with a hamstring issue and has been looking for a new contract for most of the offseason. Despite his recent absences, the veteran tight end returned to practice after a change in agents last week and appears set for his Week 1 matchup against the Chargers. When asked about his contract status by Raiders beat reporter Vincent Bonsignore, Waller said, "Whether it goes one way or it doesn't, I'll be playing football." The veteran tight end dealt with a myriad of injuries last season, but still averaged 60.5 yards per game when healthy. One of the few elite fantasy tight ends in the league, fantasy managers can start him with confidence in Week 1.

The Score's Jordan Schultz expects the Raiders to sign TE Darren Waller to a five-year, $62 million extension.

Waller, who's also returning from a hamstring injury, is expected to play if a deal isn't reached before Week 1. The Raiders didn't show offseason interest in extending Waller but that may have changed now that he's with a new agency and practicing. A $12.4 million average salary would make Waller the league's seventh-highest paid tight end.

Darren Waller caught 4-of-6 targets for 79 yards in the Raiders' Week 1 loss to the Chargers.

The freshly-minted 30-year-old (on Tuesday) tied Hunter Renfrow for second on the team in targets, way behind Davante Adams' 17. Waller was also second to Adams in yards and catches. Waller will again be a mid-to-high TE1 for Week 2 against the Cardinals after Travis Kelce decimated Arizona's defense in Week 1.

Darren Waller caught 3-of-5 targets for 22 yards in the Raiders' Week 3 loss to the Titans.

Waller's relatively quiet day was highlighted by what he did away from the box score, responsible for drawing two defensive pass interference calls that led to Las Vegas field goals. He was outpaced by running mate Foster Moreau, who matched Waller's target total of five but provided three catches for 44 yards on the day. Waller maintains his position amongst the top-five tight ends in the game, but he'll need to post more consistent showings in an underperforming Las Vegas offense before fantasy managers can feel good about him in lineups.

Darren Waller (shoulder) was "limited" in Thursday's practice.

Despite the "limited" designation, Waller was doing more than he managed on Wednesday and has been cleared for contact. He will be out there against the Chiefs on Monday Night Football. The question remains how high he belongs in the ranks as he struggles through low-wattage outputs behind Davante Adams. For now, we have to assume Waller should soon begin to benefit from the all the defensive attention Adams draws and will settle back in as a top 5-6 option at a shallow position.

Darren Waller (hamstring) did not practice Wednesday.

Waller was injured on the opening series in Week 5 against the Chiefs and then had the bye to rest up, but he's clearly still not ready for action. Foster Moreau is back, however, and would be in line for a full snap share if Waller is unable to face the lowly Texans this week.

Darren Waller (hamstring) will not play in Week 7 against the Texans.

This has been the expectation since Waller told Jim Trotter that he'd likely miss the game. Waller did not practice at any point this week after leaving Monday Night Football. He's going to remain an injury question into Week 8. If you're suddenly needing a tight end with Waller out of your lineups, backup Foster Moreau could factor into your streamer plans.

Darren Waller (hamstring) will practice Wednesday.

With Waller out last week against the Texans, Foster Moreau played 96% of the snaps and turned in an underwhelming 3/28/0 receiving line on five targets. Waller has been out since pulling his hamstring in the first quarter of Week 5 against the Chiefs.

If Waller is back this week, he could be a really interesting play. The PA game should be crazy effective with how well Jacobs is running. New Orleans defense is also falling apart at every level. The Saints have given up most points of any team in the NFL so far, though that is slightly skewed by 3 pick sixes. Still a very far cry from 2021 when they allowed the 4th fewest.

I will need to see him practice in Full every day for me to even consider him.
