TE Jimmy Graham, CHI (1 Viewer)

Rotoworld:

Jimmy Graham played on 72-of-86 snaps in Sunday's loss at St. Louis.

Graham was held to just two catches for 25 yards, but his playing time and foot was not an issue. It was simply a case of the Rams taking him away and the Saints passing game struggling on the road once again. Graham has another difficult matchup at Carolina in Week 16, but owners still alive shouldn't be in a panic. He's an excellent bet to bounce back in a big way.

For those of us Graham owners who survived last week's debacle, you are obviously putting him out there next week. But how are you feeling about it? He did great against the Panthers 2 weeks ago (6 for 58, 2 TD). Was last week just a fluke?

He's scored a TD in 9 of the 14 games he's played this year, and in 5 of those games he score 2 TD's. He's only had one period where he went two straight weeks without scoring. Meanwhile Carolina Defense has given up touchdowns to opposing Tight Ends in 7 of the last 11 weeks.

Let's put it this way, I feel good about having Jimmy on my team this week.

Gronk gets knocked (deservedly so) for his injuries, but at least when he's on the field he produces, and when he's not you know to replace him with another TE. Graham fights through injuries and acts as a decoy way too often for comfort. Because you HAVE to start him, it creates a difficult fantasy situation.

Now he's not even on the field most of the time while the Saints give the ball to their fullbacks etc. Honestly amazing. He's not even on the fireld for third down here and they throw to Pierre Thomas for another loss of 6. Just pitiful.

Rotoworld:

The difference between the franchise tag for tight ends vs. wide receivers in 2013 was $4.5 million.

Jimmy Graham is an unrestricted free agent that will be back with the Saints in 2014, either via a precedent-setting long-term deal or via the franchise tag. If forced into the latter, Graham's camp will certainly argue that he should be considered a wide receiver. The CBA states that "the tender will apply to the position in which the player participated in the most plays." That would make Graham a wideout, but PFT notes that the Saints could counter by arguing the tight end position has changed around the league. They'll be trying to save every dollar as they're reportedly $12.5 million over the projected 2014 cap heading into the offseason.

:lmao: at all the people disgruntled with Graham when he provided like the 4th-highest value of all players (within their respective positions).

The Graham contract situation will be very interesting, given his fantasy value.

It will get interesting. I think Loomis plays hardball but no way will he risk Graham walking. How much of Grahams performance down the stretch was due to his injury? He has been hurt with that foot injury since the Jets game. I won't say that is all of it though. I think he has areas of his game he still needs to improve on and he did not really come from a football background before arriving to the NFL. Maybe he had one year at U of Miami if I am not mistaken. I think he needs to hit the weight room and bulk up and work on his attitude. A smaller DB/LB should never be dictating their will to Jimmy Graham. If he wants the big $$ thats what he will have to do. Otherwise tag him at TE money 6M and put up a long contract fight.

this

the guy was MONEY, was a super man before the foot injury, after that he was still a big time lineup advantage

This could get ugly (as per Rotoworld):

Saints GM Mickey Loomis confirmed impending free agent Jimmy Graham will be franchise-tagged if the two sides can't agree to a long-term contract.

As expected. Graham isn't going anywhere. In addition to saying Graham will be tagged if need be, Loomis said the Saints will tag him as a tight end because "that's where he was drafted and that's what he is." Graham's camp may beg to differ. He played just one-third of his snaps as a traditional tight end in 2013. The difference between the tight-end tag and the receiver tag was $4.5 million last year. We could have a real contract dispute on our hands.

Jimmy is an interesting case next year. He is the only uber tier player without major injury concerns with gronk once again a question mark. That said, for a stud, he has a bit more variance and bad weeks which seem to keep him from being an uber stud.

I've been a big fan of graham and I would still look to get him a little earlier than most next year, but he seems to have more value for total points as week to week it's just not quite there consistency wise. Big caveat here is if indeed his injuries were enough to allow teams to shut him down. Because he didn't have down weeks where he went 5-60 or even 3-45, he put up bagel jobs or close to it which can really hurt for a top couple round pick.
