TE - SD - Antonio Gates - INACTIVE (1 Viewer)

UNGHFollowing Sunday's win over the Chiefs, Antonio Gates (foot) acknowledged that he is uncertain he will be able to finish the season. To be clear, Gates firmly said he will try to play against the 49ers on Thursday. But he did not even test his foot in the pregame yesterday and admitted he knew last Friday that he wouldn't be able to play against the Chiefs.
Welp, that's that. Thanks for the information, C.

Thanks AG. That information would have been USEFUL ON FRIDAY. :tfp:

I want to scream.

Based off the info during the week I went with him. Last week I started Grontowski and he got me nothing and Gates got a TD. Playoffs now and didn't want to be stuck with that again. I found out at 230ET he wasn't playing and our lineups are locked at 1. Plus these are the playoffs so i'm stuck with Grontowski because I can't pick up anyone on waivers unless I can't field a position. ughhh

I'm up by 1 going into tonight ( I have A Johnson he has Cundiff). I should be up by 10 because Grontowski would have gotten me 9. If I lose to a kicker because of this I might trip him on the sideline for his next healthy game.

Thanks for providing a forum to let me vent.

I will say that very little information seemed available anywhere about this news. There were a couple rumblings and rumors, but as recently as Wed/Thurs there were news stories indicating all systems go for this past week with Gates, including quotes from him. I wonder if some of this was gamesmanship to ensure KC had to plan for Gates even though there was little to no chance of him playing. His comments were enough that I was not overly concerned about having a backup TE option, but as the rumors gathered those plans changed.

He's been a tough situation for sure.

Here's what we had Friday:

*** Friday Update *** TE Antonio Gates (SD) did not practice on Friday and is questionable to play this weekend. It's sounding more pessimistic than it did early in the week. Said Gates Friday: "I don't know. It's rough. I couldn't go today." Kevin Acee of the San Diego Union-Tribune said he felt it was "better than 50-50 he (Gates) plays."
What makes it so rough for Fantasy is that even at way less than 100%, Gates can be a big factor. Kevin Acee is by far the guy I listen to most closely for Chargers players. He felt it was better than 50-50 that Gates played. So don't beat yourself up too much. J

So is the assumption that he won't be going this Thursday? At least he's not doing a late game and you may have other options including 1pm games this week.

Honest to god...there really shouldn't be this many questions on Gates at this point.

I'm a Gates owner and it's clear that the only thing you can count on is the official word on his status about 1:15 before kickoff each week. This week proves it considering that earlier in the week he proclaimed that he'd play and then he was suddenly inactive.

Anybody who has owned Gates should have had a plan B weeks ago.

To complain about rankings and such is ridiculous.

Hope for the best but plan for the worst.

I understand what you are saying and for any other player people would have moved on weeks ago. The thing is though that Gates is such a difference maker and so far above and beyond anyone else at his position. I tried to get a healthy, productive TE but nothing was out there except Grontkowski and he's so inconsistant. Plus my league doesn't allow for roster changes after 1pm so I'm stuck. At least this week he plays Thu so if he is out I can add Gront for Sundays game. If I end up winning this week (fingers crossed).

That would be my current assumption. If he couldn't even get on the field to test it out before the Chiefs game, I doubt he'll be able to play on it four days later. But we probably won't know for sure until an hour before kickoff.

I will continue to do what I do every week. I look at hte inactives, and then I put in the backup TE I had chosen that week. If Gates is active he is in my lineup!

And 'round we go...

On Sunday night, Gates acknowledged that his torn plantar fascia may end his season. But one day later, he vowed to get back on the field. "Ain't no use in turning back now," he said. Doctors have assured Gates that he can't do further damage to his foot by playing through the pain.

 why Antonio, why?

I was out when this was anninced Sunday...did not have a chance to change him out....that zero really killed me...but in the end it did not matter as my WR's were garbage.

But wow I have him in another league this Sunday (my best team this year too) and I need him to play.

Come on Gates.....tough it out this week.
