Ted Lasso (Apple TV - Season 3 coming March 2023!!!) (1 Viewer)

So did anyone else catch Mae straightening out a picture in the pub and then the next scene has Trent Grimm saying "Thanks...Cheers"

ETA: Not sure what the Cheers connection is but that seemed to alude to one.

ETA: Sudeikis is Wendt's nephew so maybe it was just a nod to a finale
That was a picture that Coach had in his dressing room and when he passed they put it on the set to remember him. Sam doing that as the last thing was in recognition of Coach.

You don't say :P - well its the same picture in Lasso :) Not the actual same one but a picture of Geronimo

In the early season 2 episode Beard and Ted are talking about the Yips. At one point, Ted uses the famous line from Different Strokes saying "whatcha talkin about Willis?" directed at Beard, who we then find out in the finale that his first name is indeed Willis :)
Just rewatched that episode and completely missed it!

The magazine stand has quite a few easter eggs hidden in the text.

Zavan decides to return to the game and joins LAFC (Zlatan joined LA Galaxy)
Shandy's dating app takes off
Rupert's assistant is going on the same dating show that Jamie went on
Bex is writing a book
Zoreaux is getting to work on a movie with Jean Claude Van Damme in a remake of Escape to Victory (love this one!)
A headline about Jack no longer being daddy's little girl

Did everyone catch the picture Roy hangs in the office after being named manager?

Call back to Ted putting tape over the Keeley picture in Jamie's locker in the beginning.
I also just caught a video reminding us that the picture Roy hangs was one Phoebe drew in class. S2 E11

Am I the only one disappointed that Gina Gershon didn't make a cameo appearance in the finale? There were two great Gina references in S2 and 3 and she even posted on Instagram that she wanted it to happen. My head (and something else) might have exploded.

Some questions on the last episode, finally watched it. I read through the last three pages of the thread and I don't think it was mentioned. Fantastic ending btw, so much to unpack and you all did a great job hitting the points on this thread already.

1. Who was the guy who got hit by the penalty kick in the stands with the bloody nose? His wife/gf is familiar, but can't remember who she was. They were shown earlier in the episode walking into the stadium.
2. Who was the couple with the baby at Beard's wedding? Bald guy with a baby carriage and his wife, didn't recognize either of them.

1. Rebecca dated him for awhile. Roy called him fine and went on a rant about lightening. He also supports either City or United depending on whos winning.
2. From s2 episode after the City FA Cup semi where Beard goes on his head clearing trip around London. She gave him pants while fixing his and he returned the wallet and phone after chasing Beard around.

We saw James Lance (Trent Crimm, The Independent) in the West Village yesterday. Wifey gasped and he gave us the side eye. I said "Big fan." He smiled, nodded, said "Thanks" & crossed the street.
Was his hair just as glorious in person?

(I was blessed with similar thick hair which I still have at 50, so I can brag a bit)

It’s really long! He had it pulled back with a band or something and the back just…kind of explodes.

It was kind of a busy street (7th Ave) so my “Big fan” comment was conversational & low key.

Mine literally looks like his if I let it grow out, so I view him as my spirit hair animal. :P

Maybe even another viewing.
I recommend watching it a couple times. It is great. So much more than a typical sitcom.
Yeah, I'm reading thru this thread and seeing a lot about the easter eggs. Will definitely watch again.
I very much enjoyed my second watch through the show. I bet you will too if you enjoyed the first viewing.

I fully intend to rewatch at least 2 more times in the future. Sometimes a "feel good" show feels good :)

My 14 year old daughter said she wanted to watch. A little nervous for that with some of the Keely stuff (sexy christmas, Roy's retirement video....). But there is so much good in the show that awkwardness might be worth it. (I'll just have her mom explain what was going on :lmao: )

Father and Son - Yusuf (née Cat Stevens)
I think that may have been an all-time needle drop for a TV show ending. Trying to think of a better one
Earlier today I heard “Ripple” and it reminded me of this post, and how that song was used in an all-time needle drop in the final scene of “Freaks and Geeks” as Lindsay bails on her trip to UM in order to go follow the Dead. Ted Lasso’s final scene packed more of an emotional punch, especially when he arrived home to his family, but the F&G scene was, like the rest of the show, pitch perfect

So I've been watching this show a bit and I'm having trouble seeing the soccer matches. Granted, I'm sort of in and out of the room, but it seems more like a new-agey, therapy-laden, modern sort of show than a fun romp through the Premier League. I watched the first three full episodes and then bits and pieces of the others. There's not a lot of soccer nor real soccer-adjacent things to be had.

What am I missing here? Seems like a lot of relationship stuff. I don't know. Is this me? Or is it that this is us?

I'll hang up and listen.

Oh, I am one of the many that love love love the dart throw scene. Pitch perfect. But really, this just seems like endless relationship trouble/bed hopping.

It's not a soccer show. It's a life lesson and how to live your life show. It's a sitcom but so much more. It is corny but that is part of the charm. If more people lived life like Lasso this world would be a much better place.

Ah, okay. I wasn't really being all that serious (tongue was planted firmly in cheek about wanting more soccer), but the whole thing has a kumbaya feel to it, doesn't it?

It's a life lesson and how to live your life show.

I did indeed gather that Lasso was a zen master of sorts. Like a Phil Jackson of the NBA, only with soccer and less Buddhism. I prefer my Jacksons to be Bill Waltons, but I can dig it, you know?

yes, that is almost the entire premise of the show. Together we win, individually we lose.
It is also the way in which Lasso expresses himself as being almost overly nice to the point that people are skeptical about the niceness until they realize he has no motives or hidden agendas. He just is genuinely nice and treats everyone that way. Once they get to that realization they strive to be better as well. It definitely rubs off on people to make them better and improves the culture around them. It is tremendous and like I said earlier, more of this type of thing would be great in this world.

We binge watched seasons 1 and 2 a while back when I had a free 3 month trial.

Got another one and we have just 3 episodes left of the 3rd and final season.

We love this show. Such a great message as Gally pointed out.

And three seasons was perfect.

We have enjoyed season 3 a lot more than season 2. Not that S2 was bad. But this final season has been great.

Yep. A feel good show like this was really needed the last few years, and Ted Lasso not only stepped up to the plate, but hit it out of the park.

Ted Lasso wound up being pretty much a show about relationships and a chick show. Glad so many of you fellers enjoyed a show about therapy and relationships.

A show we needed right now. Yeah, I guess.

Yes, it was an ensemble workplace sitcom centered on the relationships of the characters. I hope you didn’t go in thinking it was going to be a show about football.

I thought it would be a show about sports that hadn’t been quite networked, so to speak. Anyway, glad you all found something to watch that was edifying. I saw a network television show at its core.

Loved it - not sure if you are jaded about therapy so much that you can't enjoy a really funny show that has awesome life lessons. Weird take calling it a chick show too.

Yeah 30 episodes of "Whaddya mean they can't use their hands?' over and over wouldn't have gotten old fast, nah

Considering this is the sport that spawned the book Among The Thugs and had a culture of violence rather than a culture of relationships around it, then yes, that was a put off.

not sure if you are jaded about therapy so much that

That’s what prompted that thread. That a million guys so universally hailed it as awesome when twenty years ago the therapy would have been a no-go or non-starter for a lot of guys. Look, you can all love a show for women. Just don't call it a show for men, even enlightened ones. My poor father had to sit and watch this show with my mother. I was at least able to walk out of the room when it was on.

Loved the show, and sounds like we had the preferred order. Season 1 was just special and remains the best. Season 2 was good, but went more into drama than season 1. Season 3 was awesome, and a great way to wrap it.

I do think they'll do a spin-off minus Ted. We'll see how it goes.

Tony Soprano?

Wow, I watched a full season and never really noticed that was the backdrop for the story. I've only watched a season of The Sopranos. And The Wire, too. I'm a tough sell on television.

But I don't care so much about therapy per se. The way it was done is important, I guess.

I never really considered it a show for women or a show for men. Some people liked it while others didn’t. And that’s fine. I find your gendered take on it to be a little odd, but no worries, I’m not the slightest bit bothered by someone saying I enjoyed a show for women.
