"Tell me about the last time you saw another man's sack." (1 Viewer)

Why do Christians always feel the need to tell us they think homosexuality is a sin? We get it. We know how you feel. Now just shut up about it.
On account of, you stop stickin' it up there, maybe Jesus will forgive you 'n you can avoid all eternal hellfire! By the way, you're my brother in the Lord and I don't judge you or nothin'.
"And, excuse me while I sign these divorce papers, everyone knows that gays ruin the sanctity of marriage!"

Wow, just read Broussard's comments. He's done right?(please let him be done)
Why would he be done?
Because of the things he said as a public representative of ESPN
Did he say something that reflects poorly on ESPN?
Yes
>Personally, I don’t believe that you can live an openly homosexual lifestyle or an openly, like premarital sex between heterosexuals. If you’re openly living that type of lifestyle, then the Bible says you know them by their fruits. It says that, you know, that’s a sin. If you’re openly living in unrepentant sin, whatever it may be, not just homosexuality, whatever it maybe, I believe that’s walking in open rebellion to God and to Jesus Christ. So I would not characterize that person as a Christian because I don’t think the bible would characterize them as a Chri

stian.
Whats the problem with this?
It isn't me that fears/hates gay people, its God.
The God of the bible decreed that homosexuality is a sin. This shouldn't really be a question.

I'm not getting baited into a ridiculous discussion about this. It's as clear as it can possibly be. I'm not going to bring up scriptures and then have people twist the meanings to try and justify an act that is clearly condemned in the bible. It's pointless.

The bible condemns sexual relations between homosexuals, as it condemns fornication, adultery, murder and stealing. It is what it is.

Well nevermind then. Maybe someone else will answer.
Whats the point Slapdash. Do you really not know? I find that HIGHLY unlikely. So I'm going to post the scripture that you already know, you are going to tell me why it doesn't mean what it clearly says because of posts on a pro-homosexual website? I realize there are people that try and play games with any scripture I would post. I know that and you know that. I don't have a magical scripture that I'm ready to unleash on you. Just the obvious ones, that are about as clear as you can get, such as 1 Cor 6:9,10, among others.

Gay scholars that try to justify homosexuality make the same mistake that 95% of "christians" do that try to justify fornication, adultery, murder and all other sinful acts that the bible condemns, yet are freely practiced by professed christians the world over. They pick and choose which parts of the bible they are comfortable with.

That's the old stuff. For the Israelites.

Not very Christian of you.

1 Corinthians 6:9-10 - "Do you not know that the wicked will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: Neither the sexually immoral nor idolaters nor adulterers nor male prostitutes nor homosexual offenders nor thieves nor the greedy nor drunkards nor slanderers nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God." (NIV).

Oh noes! Where is the outrage on those? Oh yeah, it includes you and yours, so you let it go and never cast that stone. Just like Broussard.

Did you not read my post? I pointed out exactly the same things that you are pointing out regarding most christians. They overlook these things and focus all attention on the homosexual portions of the scriptures. The other things are condemned as well and homosexuality is not made to be a bigger sin than any of the other ones. The scripture is painfully clear. Practicers of any of the above things will not inherit the kingdom of God.

fair enough. I gave you one scripture. There are a couple more. Romans 1:26,27 is another. I apologize for being snippy, I've seen the setup plenty of times before and wrongly assumed you were doing that.

All of that is SUPPOSED to be overlooked. Its why Jesus came down.

So they could make it to heaven, despite their human shortcomings.

I understand man.

All this Christian talk is making me dizzy. Anyone care what a Buddhist has to say?

How about a Muslim? A Hindu? Or a Je...nevermind, nobody cares what they think.

Has anyone contacted the Satantic Church for their opinion?

Who knows, they might not want to claim the gays you Christians keep giving them.

Is Timothy Leary still alive? His opinion means a lot here too.

No? Dead? Effe it. Pump 100 hits of LSD into his corpse and get a statement.

God ####### damnit. Jason Collins being gay has nothing to do with christianity. Take your silly god talk elsewhere. We are here to celebrate a big black gay man.

I saw Broussard on tv today. First, let me say I disagree with him. I realized when he said it there might be backlash but thought I was overreacting a bit when wondering if it might cost him his job basically. I'm sure a lot of people saw it so no need to rehash the segment. I felt he and Granderson each presented their viewpoints and to me it seemed as if the host knew his views already and was using his and Granderson's opposing views as an example of how players in the NBA had different views. Broussard had actually stated that he had gotten views from all across the spectrum from NBA players, some in support, some not.

I'm from the deep south and I guess here I register as a social liberal since I'm more libertarian socially and fiscally quite conservative. I have no interest in who anyone sleeps with as long as they are of age and are consenting adults. Personally I think we have greater things to worry about. Whether or not something is a sin isn't for me to judge. I live my life and have to answer for it when I die, I don't want anyone to judge me and I'm certainly not capable of being anyone else's judge.

However, I guess I sold short the politically correct society we now live in. The hype around his comments has been incredible. A friend of mine who used to work at ESPN was watching at the same time I was this morning as it happened and posted to Facebook about this might be Broussard's last day. I replied that while I disagreed with him that it shouldn't be his last day as he was asked his personal beliefs and answered the question just as LZ Granderson did. To my surprise I got a private message from an ESPN host tonight who saw it and basically questioned me about it and asked if I was essentially saying that someone who had premarital sex couldn't be a Christian since that was living a sinful life. I was a bit astounded. I messaged back stating that while I disagreed with Broussard, that if you preach being accepting of someone on the one hand, to me it's hypocrital to be intolerant of someone who expresses views that are different from your own. He had basically assumed that since I wasn't agreeing with the outcry over Broussard that I agreed with his comments. I tried explaining that you don't have to agree with someone to support their right to have their own beliefs.

What if that view promotes "intolerance" and "bigotry"?

Intolerance of whose view? Yours? In his opinion he might view someone else as being bigoted against Christians or intolerant of his religious beliefs and stating them. Who is to say who is being intolerant? He wasn't advocating Jason Collins not playing due to being homosexual or any action being taken against him. The man was asked his views and he stated them. I realize you feel your point of view on this issue is correct. To me that isn't the issue. There are people who disagree on whether or not this is a sin. Should we take punitive actions or have outrage for someone who has a view different from what ours may be? It's a slippery slope.

Broussard isn't discussing people against Christians.
The segment I saw was Broussard being asked about his personal beliefs and he shared them as a Christian. You may disagree with him, that's fine. If Broussard had gone into some speech about how Collins should never play again or actions that should be taken against him because of his sexual orientation then I'd agree with the outrage. The part I saw, he never did that. He gave his own personal beliefs. Fifteen years ago you may have lost your job if you had spoken out for gay rights and spoke on your beliefs. That wouldn't have been right either. It has nothing to do with who is right or wrong in their belief, there is always going to be disagreement but individuals should be free to express their personal beliefs.

As far as Broussard and ESPN go, Broussard has been open in the past about his beliefs. ESPN knew this when that segment was being set up today. To me it's the ultimate in hypocrisy now if they were to take action against him because that whole segment was set up to have both he and Granderson essentially take opposing views.

. Fifteen years ago you may have lost your job if you had spoken out for gay rights and spoke on your beliefs. That wouldn't have been right either.
That's not equal. One is being tolerant of others, one is intolerance.

Like walking in the Southern black activist rallys... or rallying against blacks ever having any rights. It doesn't matter if you hide behind religion to do it, either.

So are you being tolerant of Broussard's religious beliefs? If you are tolerant then fine you can disagree with Chris Broussard but why do you want to punish someone for disagreeing with you? Chris Broussard only expressed his personal beliefs, not any mention of not signing Collins because he is gay. I happen to disagree with Chris Broussard but I can accept not everyone agrees with me and never will. I also don't accept the feeling that people should be punished for expressing personal beliefs if they happen to be politically incorrect. I'm not saying to agree with Broussard or even like him, but if you are truly tolerant then that means accepting people's views that may be different from yours. You're only applying tolerance in this case to sexual orientation, and accepting all people even if they are different from you in that regard. You seem to be intolerant of those who disagree with your social and moral views.

ETA: Sorry didn't mean to jump off the tracks here. I just found it interesting an ESPN host would take the time to respond to a post where I basically disagreed with Broussard but b/c I said he shouldn't be removed over it chose to think I agreed with his views in the matter. This thread was meant to be about Collins and his announcement so I digress.

I want his intolerance not to effect change towards more intolerance of others.

Like if I told Broussard my Christian beliefs were (from the Old Testament) that he cant obtain heaven or be a true Christian because he was born of sin of inter-breeding and his very existence was "a Rebellion Against God".

That's a horrible and hateful position that others should not be tolerant of me -- if I said such a thing. But I know better because I actually read/learn/listen to what Jesus taught.

But that "quote" is what he said towards Collins and his situation.

Well said!

I, a straight male who thinks gay marriage/civil unions should be allowed, find it annoying how anyone nowadays who isn't all for homosexuality and gay marriage and all that is branded by some as close-minded, a bigot, ignorant, etc. Yet certain other groups are open to any and all criticism, and that is all well and fine apparently, but oh no, you say one thing that isn't overly positive about gays and you are suddenly a terrible person.

Chris Broussard seemed fine all day a d then he goes crazy Christian. I hope he gets fired. He's horrible. I'd rather have Stephen A back as the main nba guy.

I'm reluctant to tolerate Broussard's comments not because I simply disagree with them, but because they support intolerance. Being "tolerant" doesn't equate to embracing moral relativism. If you considered yourself a tolerant person it'd be hypocritical not to condemn his comments. Can you honestly question the fact that Broussard's comments were intolerant of gays?

some things are right and some things are wrong brohans it is as simple as that trying to exclude and separate people based on who they love is wrong so condemning something that is clearly wrong is never hipocritical it is just the right thing to do broussard is a yahoo and so are those defending him and i do not care what verse you cite the fact is the church used to repress women it used to repress blacks and there were a whole bunch of jerkwads who used the good book to support that to so hey keep on trying to say the bible and big kahuna are on your side history will just prove you to be another one of the bigots racists and chavunists that we are all embarassed about today

I didn't realize Broussard said the comments when prompted on an ESPN show.

He shouldn't be fired. ESPN should fire itself. Unless they are completely clueless, they had to have done this on purpose to steal the spotlight from SI.

It's none of Broussard's business, when he's speaking publicly, what Collins' religion is and it's sure as hell none of ESPN's.

This is simply pathetic.

Personally, I think issue is the venue. For religious folk, I'm sure some reasonable discussion can take place over Broussard's viewpoint. What he's saying isn't inherently hateful. It's not a conversation to be had publicly by a sports analyst (unless Collins himself is participating too). Of course, ESPN touches on personal matters among athletes, but they've made a point to steer clear of politics, for good reason. Those are issues that really get people riled up and ESPN simply isn't the place to discuss those issues.Religion should be viewed the same way. It's not ESPN's place to discuss whether or not Collins is or isn't a Christian. Particularly, as has been noted, ESPN doesn't send out the religious ombudsman for every athlete that could be considered an unrepentant sinner.

I wanted Broussard fired yesterday because he's terrible. As far as this issue goes though, saying "I dont believe that you can live an openly homosexual lifestyle" is hate speech and yes I do think he should be fired for it.

No. The one where it says being gay is a sin.
He clearly said that all premarital sex was a sin, and any unmarried people cohabitating (whether heterosexual or homosexual) are living in sin.
