Um, yes, I think. I don't know, actually.so, basically, it would be name on the album, and not who was in the band, right?Yes, it would be a large undertaking. I assume we'd include solo artists, as well.

i think you have to do it by name on the album.you can draft van halen, sammy hagar, or david lee roth, but only the stuff that's on those albums.Van Halen? Van Hagar?i need a ruling before we start the band draft:
jefferson airplane and jefferson starship, two seperate bands, yes?
and htf do we score menudo? do we specify a certain year/version?
Ouch. I think if you draft Van Halen, you get both, simply because they didn't change their name.Van Halen? Van Hagar?i need a ruling before we start the band draft:

So Can I draft Prince 4 or 5 times? Prince and the Revolution, Prince and the NPG, Prince, that symbol thingy....Good question. I guess, since they changed their name from Jefferson Airplane to Jefferson Starship to Starship, all three would be eligible. Hell, I don't know. Can I get a ruling right now on the Starship?Airplane debate?Could I draft the White Rabbit/Miracles/Jane-part but not be liable for the We Built This City-part?i like this idea.I don't know if I've ever seen a "Band Draft" done. I say, if you're going to do it, do it big and make it "All-time."band draft by decade???Don't want to step on toes from the other drafts. Our idea was slightly different, and the draft wouldn't take 3 damn weeks thoughi'd like to try the album draft.i know killernerd tried to start one on wednesday, but we could do the signup here, and pm guys who were in other drafts? So, for the next draft, what should we do? Has this format run its course? How could we change it up?
i think if a band changes their name, it counts as a different band whether the lineup stays the same or not. we must figure out the menudo question, though. this draft will not get past my round 1 pick without a clear answer.i need a ruling before we start the band draft:
jefferson airplane and jefferson starship, two seperate bands, yes?
and htf do we score menudo? do we specify a certain year/version?
Okay. I would say that if you draft Prince, you get all of that mess. Same with Neil Young, since they are both the primary focuses of said outfits. So Can I draft Prince 4 or 5 times? i agree. you wouldn't draft he stones pre and post brian jones' death as separate bands, would you?Ouch. I think if you draft Van Halen, you get both, simply because they didn't change their name.Van Halen? Van Hagar?i need a ruling before we start the band draft:
jefferson airplane and jefferson starship, two seperate bands, yes?

There will be many, many gray areas.
..and at first glance I thought this would be easier. I guess albums is the easiest. No, never, never.i agree. you wouldn't draft he stones pre and post brian jones' death as separate bands, would you?Ouch. Nice list, Doug. I'm not sure if I know the Bad Company song, but the ones I do know are all solid.Doug B's list:
1.17 - Queen, "We Are the Champions"
2.02 - Marvin Gaye - "Got to Give it Up"
3.16 - 10cc - "The Things We Do For Love"
4.02 - Crosby, Stills & Nash - "Just a Song Before I Go"
5.16 - Kiss - "Hard Luck Woman"
6.02 - Brick - "Dazz"
7.16 - Heart - "Little Queen"
8.02 - Bad Company - "Burnin' Sky"
9.16 - Fleetwood Mac - "Secondhand News"
10.02 - Pablo Cruise - "Watcha Gonna Do?"
11.16 - Andy Gibb - "(Love Is) Thicker Than Water"
12.02 - Styx - "Miss America"
i would say drafting "neil young" would get you "neil young and crazy horse" but not CSNY. if the artist is given top billing in the name of the band, i think you get it by drafting the artist. this of course would make "derek and the dominos", "cream", and "blind faith" separate from "eric clapton"Okay. Shhhhh! They are my first round pick!Little River Band & LRB?
With Glenn Shorrock & with John Farnham?
Yes, but I don't think anything would be gray enough for us to not be able to reach a consensus. There will be many, many gray areas.
I agree, and I'm in.Yes, but I don't think anything would be gray enough for us to not be able to reach a consensus. There will be many, many gray areas.
as opposed to the clear black and white rules we've had for these drafts. There will be many, many gray areas.
Right. I didn't address CSNY. If you draft Young, you would not also get CSNY. Not sure if you'd get CSNY if you drafted CSN, though. That would be a little gray, although, I'd lean towards one getting both if one drafted either.i would say drafting "neil young" would get you "neil young and crazy horse" but not CSNY. if the artist is given top billing in the name of the band, i think you get it by drafting the artist.

i am excited about this. definitely INYes, but I don't think anything would be gray enough for us to not be able to reach a consensus. There will be many, many gray areas.
i think this is correct.i would say drafting "neil young" would get you "neil young and crazy horse" but not CSNY. if the artist is given top billing in the name of the band, i think you get it by drafting the artist.
this of course would make "derek and the dominos", "cream", and "blind faith" separate from "eric clapton"
i think bands would be a little tougher, but much more fun. There will be many, many gray areas...and at first glance I thought this would be easier. I guess albums is the easiest.
The one we're currently doing? Oh, I don't know. I imagine I'll set up a poll if we still want to do it.Are we going to do polls on this one?
They seem kind of irrelevantt these days, but I still enjoy some of the input that a few of the FBGers give.
well, 20 teams x say, 25 rounds would be 500 bands.OK, how many rounds would this have to be to do any justice to the # of bands out there?

Another good question. I think a If we have 20 drafters ... maybe 20 rounds? This would be very negotiable.OK, how many rounds would this have to be to do any justice to the # of bands out there?
Little River Band & LRB?
With Glenn Shorrock & with John Farnham?
If you draft the Little River Band, I'll give you both.hmmm. I guess that would be about 100 bands/decade. That sounds about right.Another good question. PID is up.Who the heck is up and who has been skipped??
There's as much chance of me drafting Little River Band in any format or any song of theirs as there is of me doing Jessica Alba by midnight tonightLittle River Band & LRB?
With Glenn Shorrock & with John Farnham? If you draft the Little River Band, I'll give you both.
nope, i picked already.PID is up.Who the heck is up and who has been skipped??

You know it ... might not know the name of the song, because "Burnin' Sky" is not exactly in the lyrics. The chorus is:Nice list, Doug. I'm not sure if I know the Bad Company song ...
I agree with UH.So IN!I don't know if I've ever seen a "Band Draft" done. Ouch. I think if you draft Van Halen, you get both, simply because they didn't change their name.Van Halen? Van Hagar?i need a ruling before we start the band draft:
jefferson airplane and jefferson starship, two seperate bands, yes?

Although if we include jazz, things could get REALLY complicated . . .Yeah, I guess you're right, although, I'd lean toward one getting everything from a particular virtuoso if one drafts said virtuoso. Throw us an example.Ouch. I think if you draft Van Halen, you get both, simply because they didn't change their name.Van Halen? Van Hagar?i need a ruling before we start the band draft:

Awesome catch!!!RMoG's pick:
Jeff Beck - "Freeway Jam"
Off of Jeff Beck With the Jan Hammer Group Live
Pretty funny review:
Review by William Ruhlmann
Jeff Beck toured to promote Wired, backed by a jazz fusion group led by synthesizer player Jan Hammer. This straightforward live souvenir combines songs from Blow by Blow and Wired, plus a few other things, and while it features typically fiery playing from Beck, the backup is a bit too heavy-handed and the occasional vocals (by Hammer and drummer Tony Smith) are embarrassing.
yeah, it would make it more complicated. i definitely think we should include jazz, though. blues as well.Ouch. I think if you draft Van Halen, you get both, simply because they didn't change their name.Van Halen? Van Hagar?i need a ruling before we start the band draft:

The obvious one is Miles Davis.2 quintets, a sextext, an octet and many other incarnations.Yeah, I guess you're right, although, I'd lean toward one getting everything from a particular virtuoso if one drafts said virtuoso. Yikes. Like I said, I would lean towards giving you all of Miles Davis's catalogue, simply because every incarnation has got his name on it. I don't know. Zappa would be tough, too.The obvious one is Miles Davis.2 quintets, a sextext, an octet and many other incarnations.Yeah, I guess you're right, although, I'd lean toward one getting everything from a particular virtuoso if one drafts said virtuoso. If we limit by name of group, even The Miles Davis Quintet would be exceptionally tough to judge, since there were two, totally different, totally awesome line-ups under this name:
The Miles Davis Quintet (I)
-------------------------------
Miles Davis (trumpet)
John Coltrane (tenor saxophone)
Red Garland (piano)
Paul Chambers (double bass)
Philly Joe Jones (drums)
The Miles Davis Quintet (II)
--------------------------------
Miles Davis (trumpet)
Wayne Shorter (saxophone)
Herbie Hancock (piano)
Ron Carter (bass)
Tony Williams (drums)
