The 2010 K Thread (1 Viewer)

JasonLaCanfora: With K Nate Kaeding likely out at least a week, Chargers worked out K Brown, S Suisham & S Graham, today. Deciding which one to sign

The UFL prevented Florida Tuskers kicker Nick Novak from signing with an undisclosed NFL team http://bit.ly/bMwD60 (presumably the Chargers)

#Dolphins kicker Dan Carpenter named AFC Special Teams Player of the Week.

Didn't want to start a new thread for a kicker question, but do you think it would be unethical to drop my current kicker (Carpenter) to pick up Nick Folk who's been dropped in a bye week, play him and take the zero? I'm in a pretty easy matchup this week.

Any reason that FBGs has Hanson ranked so low going forward? Am I missing something? He's PK 29 on their latest custom top 200 forward, which seems way too low to me. He's currently the #6 PK in our league. Any reason to think his numbers drop off significantly going forward?

Yeah, I know, nobody cares about kickers, but I thought I'd try one more time.

I agree with you. I had Hanson at #15 last week for the remainder of the season. I'm still working on this week's updates, but he'll probably climb a couple notches.P.S. I care.

Me too. I was just about to acquire him off of waivers for nothing and another owner beat me to him.

Hanson is a great kicker who has been stuck on poor teams for so, so long. He could have had Morten Anderson numbers over the years if he had been on decent teams.I am trying to add him off waivers right now, this is the first time in years I have even contemplated it.Plus I think this is a pretty great matchup with WAS this week.

I don't usually give any credit to kickers, they are what they are. However, Dan Carpenter has scored 15,17, and 19 points over the last 3 weeks in standard scoring leagues. He was on my wire prior to this week.

He's in a near perfect situation for a fantasy kicker. He's on an offense that can move the ball but fails in the redzone. He doesn't play in a cold weather city, and other than week 9 in Baltimore and week 14 in New York he's got it pretty easy weather wise.

I picked him up for Week 7 when I cut my other kicker for his bye week. Wow, is all I can say.

Miami is a team full of possession receivers & RBs who move the chains consistently, but rarely break big plays & stall in the red zone. Seems like the perfect storm for Field Goals.

I'm sure there's an owner in your league that would give you a decent player for him. I would sell high. Kickers are so unpredictable. If you have a total garbage player, and if you could get a top 20-30 WR, why not do it?

I like where your head's at, but in the 11 year history of our league no one has ever traded for a kicker.

Yeah does the whole buy low, sell high apply to kickers? The only time I've seen a kicker traded is as an add in to help as a bye week replacement.

If Dolphins kicker Dan Carpenter makes five FGs in each game the rest of the year, he'll score at least 200 points for the season.

I know they are playing Baltimore, but I went ahead and picked him up. I don't really put much stock into kickers when it comes to their weekly performance...but the Miami situation makes him a decent pickup.

Surprised to see him ranked dead last on the kicker rankings this week though.

Take heart they had him ranked real low last week too. I guess he's like Rodney Dangerfield and gets no respect.

Check out his ranking this week.....he's dead last! I know the Baltimore Def is good....but come on guys....last??? :lmao:
Of all the positions, I have less faith in kicker rankings than any other position. So I definitely won't argue with anyone that wants to rank them differently than we have him. For us, that's just how we see the game playing out plus we think Carpenter comes back in line with historical norms (for himself and the position). But definitely go with your gut there. J

Bironas has been money for me this year but I never hold 2 kickers. I'll be picking Carpenter up for the rest of the year. Although predicting kickers is a crapshoot- they are getting him opportunities.

Unfortunately for us Dolphins fans, I don't see this trend changing unless Dan Henning is stripped of play calling duties. I would love for this to happen but I perceive no threat to Henning's role this year. Our redzone offense has regressed back to the Dave Wannstedt era. Bad for the Dolphins, ideal for Carpenter owners.

my strategy in one league has been to stick with Crosby for the year... and he has been above average most weeks.

in another league, I've picked up one of the higher ranked PKs, and it hasn't worked:

Tynes: 7

Vinatieri: 8

Rackers: 7

Rackers: 7

Rackers: 4

Scobee: 3

Prater: 2

Folk: 0

I might just stick with Folk... can't get worse now... lol

Pretty simple question, I simply just can't find any injury info on Nate, and need to know if I need to drop another player to kick up another kicker. Anybody know how long is he expected to be out?

Norv has said he expects all the injured guys to be back playing in week 11. I assume that includes Kaeding, though he didn't specify anyone by name.
