The 2010 K Thread (1 Viewer)

There is no formula for kickers. Yeah, avoid bad weather, and lean toward guys with good range. But after that it's all guesswork.

Perfect example: Last year, Kaeding was one of the best because SD's offense was so good. This year, Carpenter is good because Miami's offense always bogs down in the red zone.

Best bet seems to go with Kicker rule #1 which is: grab one who is on a high scoring offense. Some guys I am liking are:

High Powered Offense:

-David Akers (PHI) Vick, LeSean, DeSean, Maclin are on a roll right now. Points will be scored here whether its 3 or 7 at a time. Still seem to stall at times.

-Garrett Hartley (NO) The Saints are starting to get things going and Hartley has been consistent recently. Plays in a dome.

-Matt Bryant (ATL) The Falcons are one of the best teams this year. Play in a dome.

-Neil Rackers (HOU) Their defense has been horrible so they will have to score points on offense to compete, which WILL with Foster/Andre. Dome.

-Nate Kaeding (SD) Missed some time but is back now and surprisingly still available in some leagues. Plays in sunny southern California on one of the best offenses in the league.

This years most improved:

-Josh Brown (STL) Bradford is giving this team some life and they play indoors.

-Dan Carpenter (MIA) Team yanks on the E break after they get inside the opponents 40. Hit from 60 last weekend.

-Sebastian Janikowski (OAK) Has always been money but offense never gave him chances. The Raiders have improved this year and he can boot it in from distance.

Matchup of the year: ARIZONA

Kickers playing the Rams this year have really caught my eye. They're the only team (in my league at least) who are allowing an average of double digit points per week, and although I agree to some extent about just grabbing a kicker on a good offense and hoping for the best, and "a kicker is a kicker is a kicker," if you can get lucky and grab one who goes off for 15-20 points, that could be the difference between you winning and loosing. At this point in the season, a loss is game over for your team. I believe in the saying "its the little things that add up to big things."

Here is what AZ has allowed this year:

Week 1: 8 (STL)

Week 2: 11 (ATL)

Week 3: 13 (OAK)

Week 4: 13 (SD)

Week 5: 8 (NO)

Week 6: BYE

Week 7: 18 (SEA)

Week 8: 8 (TB)

Week 9: 9 (MIN)

Week 10: 19 (SEA)

Week 11: 7 (KC)

Week 12: 9 (SF)

Week 13: 16 (STL)

Basically, going off what they have allowed EVERY game this year, starting a kicker going against AZ will have good-great value and definitely wont loose a game for you. So if you aren't lucky enough to have one of the "studs", target Week 14: Matt Prater, Week 15: John Kasay, Week 16: David Buehler, or a kicker going against TEN, BUF, STL, CAR, IND, HOU.

Other Kickers who have the best S.O.S. over the final three weeks are:

-Denver (ARI, OAK, HOU)

-Dallas (PHI, WAS, HOU)

-Kansas City (SD, STL, TEN)

According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, Denver plans to sign K Steven Hauschka to replace injured K Matt Prater (groin).

Owners of Prater should find a replacement for Week 14. There should be plenty of options available.

With all foul weather games he had a nice matchup against team giving up most points to kickers

Just noticed this time to find another good matchup

Hauschka kicked for the injured Jason Hanson on the Lions in the preseason. I thought he had a pretty strong leg was pretty accurate. I picked up Prater for this particular matchup. Anyone rolling the dice with Haushcka?

Jay Feely scored 25 points with 5 field goals, 4 extra points and a touchdown.

At 34 years and 203 days he's the oldest player to scored 25 or more points in history. Gary Anderson and John Kasay are the only other players that were older and score at least 20 (they both had 6 field goals and 2 extra points).

He's the 14th player in AFL*/NFL history and 9th in NFL history to score at least 25 points.

36 - Sayers

33 - Hornung

30 - Alexander, Cannon*, Gilchrist*, Haynes*, Hornung, Portis, Rice, Stewart, Winslow

28 - Cappelletti*, Hornung

26 - Bironas, Blanda*

He's the 6th kicker to score at least 25 points. Others were Paul Hornung (4x6td, 1x3fg, 6x1xp = 33 points), Gino Cappelletti (2x6, 4x3, 4x1 = 28), Paul Hourning (3x6, 2x3, 4x1 = 28), Rob Bironas (0x6, 8x3, 2x1 = 26), and George Blanda (3x6, 1x3, 5x1 = 26)

He's the first kicker to score a touchdown since Tim Seder of the Cowboys on 10/7/2001. Seder also did it on 11/12/2000. Phil Dawson, Jess Atkinson, Jim Turner and Jim O'Brien(x2) are the only other kickers to score a TD since the merger.

edit to fix spelling of Hornung.

As a fan of the 1960's Packers it is cool to see that Hornung made your list 3 times, while no one else even repeated on the list.

Has anyone been watching David Buehler?

This guy is helping someone somewhere win games.

He has a great match-up against Arizona this week btw as they have given up the most FG attempts in the league. (like 48 or 49).

-QG

30 minutes before Sunday's first kickoff, I had a took one last look at my roster and decided to dump Vinatieri for Buehler. It was just a hunch, and knowing that the Colts always leave PAT's for Vinatieri and not enouth FG attempts. I won my game by less than 5 points, and the difference between Buehler and Vinatieri was 6 points. Buehler literally carried my team to the championship.

I have him on my Mike Vick squad on my 20 team league. I'm probably going to win the playoffs. He's quite good.

The problem with this guy is that he usually misses one or two FG attempts a game, so he's a bit of a risk (assuming that you get negative points for misses), but offsetting that is he's getting a lot of opportunities so it impacts less than someone who only gets a couple of kicks.

I had Carpenter most of the year but saw the Dallas schedule and dropped him for Buehler. Felt pretty good about that decision after what happened with Carpenter this week. Kickers are such a lottery though.

Since our rosters lock going into the playoffs Week 15, I picked him up for "insurance" for David Akers. Now I don't know who to start in the championship game.

Hey,

Looking to get an edge in the Fantasy SB. Which are the best WW kicker plays this week?

Bryant ATL vs NO

Brown STL vs SF

Folk NYJ @ CHI

Graham NE @ BUF

or

Vinatieri NE @ OAK

:lmao:

TIA

I'm going with Buehler (DAL) @ ARI on Christmas Day

Thought about Graham @ BUF, but it could be mostly XP, and weather.

Wouldn't touch Folk with a 10 foot pole

BTW, Vinatieri is IND, not NE

If Bryant is available, I'd jump on that.

if there's been a rule of thumb all season, it's been start the kicker playing vs arizona

stl has been sputtering a bit but they love kicking FGs and it's indoors and vs a SF team that's been generous to kickers as well

I have Josh Brown right now, but I'm putting in a waiver claim for Buehler. Both are probably top 5 options...but I feel more comfortable playing the "follow Arizona" game.

The answer is:

1. Buehler

2. Buehler

3. Buehler

4. Shane Graham

{Some people did miss Kaeding coming back off the inactive list though...}

Beuhler has been picked up in most leagues already...

Especially this late in the season, you gotta lean towards kickers that won't be fighting the elements.

Look for indoor kickers or good weather kickers...

Liking Josh Brown as he's available in most leagues...

What if you had your choice between both Buehler and Kaeding?
Good question. The team I'm going up against has Buehler, but Kaeding is still avail on the WW. :blackdot:
this one is easy. Buehler is kicking in the sunny desert. and Kaeding in potentially a snowbowl.
Yeah sure right. Just like Gould last night who lit it up right? Kickers are and will remain for the most part a crapshoot.
I don't believe kickers are a crapshoot. You follow the teams that are hot and getting better. I was going to just go with my regular kicker Vinatieri last week. He did have a decent game (11 points), but at the last minute I switched to Buehler right before kickoff. Buehler got 17 points. He's been the hot kicker lately. You follow the trends and matchups. Indy scores TD's so often, you could end up with 5 points if they win 35-21. Like I said, it was just a hunch, and I was lucky. I ended up winning my league with the highest point total 156-151.5. Just a 4.5 point difference. And Buehler provided 6 extra points. So Buehler was responsible for moving on to the championship. Don't overlook the impact of choosing the right kicker. It's not a crapshoot. If I had thought that, I'd be playing in the toilet bowl.
