The 2010 K Thread (1 Viewer)

Havent seen any links yet but I believe last year they had one active and the other out so it was clear.....

There's no point in giving up on Hartley so soon, since his salary is already guaranteed for the year and Carney has no long-term future with the team. Besides, there's no guarantee that Carney will maintain his accuracy throughout the season (it's worth noting that Carney's accuracy was 4th lowest of his career in 2009).

On the bright side, Carney has eclipsed Isaac Bruce as the last remaining NFL player who played for the Los Angeles Rams.

Hartley won't get back in this year unless Carney gets hurt.
Wrong, Carney has no leg. Hartley will kick everything over 35 most likely and Carney will kick everything under until Carney can correct Hartley's issues with rushing his kicks and hooking them to the right.
Carney will be in for scoring (PAT & FG), Hartley will kick off.
Wrong, Thomas Morstead does Kickoffs and as I said Carney will not be handling all FG's

I doubt there will be 2 K's active. probably 75% that Carney kicks this week. but even if he does, he's not the answer long term. Hartley will get the job back, and he still may even kick this week.

the Saints really wanted Carney as a kicking coach, but he still has a desire to play, and once you get hired as a coach you can't play any more during that season. that's why Carney was reluctant to become a coach, and why the Saints signed him as a player. the Saints want him more as a mentor than a long term solution.

even with his struggles this season, Hartley is over 86% for his career, including 5 for 5 in the playoffs. dude has talent.

With New Orleans kickers still dominating the kicking headlines, we look back at Saints kicker Tom Dempsey http://bit.ly/9ZipiM
I have a framed, signed picture of/by Dempsey kicking his famous kick.Alex Karras is rushing in from the right side of the Saints' line, hands outstretched.

The fans seem oddly nonplussed, so do many of the players. Some people are watching the kick, some are watching Demsey.

Scarpatti, a DB, was holding.

Dempsey is still around town, sells insurance and is known as a great guy.

About a million Orleanians claim they saw the kick. Another 10 million claim they heard it on the radio.

Fact is, 1/2 of the stadium had left and the game could not be heard on radio because (true story) a swarm of bees had chosen that particular moment to overwhelm the wires in the stdium's transmitting towers and the end of the game was nothing but static.

Lots of people heard the roar of the remaining crowd from outside the stadium though.

Dempsey deserves credit as one of the most remarkabl;e athletes of all time. Played in teh NFL with half a foot???? Come on.

Okay...so when do we think Hartley might get the job back?

RT @Adam_Schefter: Redskins reached agreement with punter Hunter Smith, who will sign tomorrow.

RT @Official_Saints: Payton on who will start at K this week "no update. (Carney & Hartley) are both kicking well so that is encouraging."

Jaguars kicker Josh Scobee named AFC special teams player of the week.

Do you think Josh Scobee is a good pickup this week, you kicker fans? I picked him up this week because Buffalo's defense is putrid and the Jags should actually put some points on the board this week.

So what are the odds Hartley gets his job back in the next 1-3 weeks? It seems strange that NO is going to continue to have two kickers on the 53-man roster, that Carney is clearly not the long-term answer at the position, plus he also missed a key 29-yarder that was a big reason of why Hartley got benched in the first place.

"[Garrett Hartley] kicked really well the last two weeks [in practice] and worked very hard. We had the opportunity to evaluate things and fix some technical issues."

NEW ORLEANS

New Orleans Saints coach Sean Payton said it would have been nice for kickers John Carney and Garrett Hartley to compete again in practice this week, but the team couldn’t afford to because injury issues at other positions forced them to release Carney on Tuesday. It wasn’t practical to keep both kickers on the active roster, Payton said Wednesday, because they needed more depth at the injury-riddled halfback and safety positions—which led them to sign running back Julius Jones and safety Matt Giordano. “In an ideal world, it would have been nice to keep them both this week,” Payton said. “In the end, it really became a challenge to carry the second kicker. “Garrett has done a good job of responding,” Payton said of Hartley, who missed a 29-yard game-winning field goal against Atlanta on Sept. 26 and was inactive the last two weeks. “I thought he kicked exceptionally well today and had a good week last week. It just became too much of a challenge to carry the extra kicker.”

When asked if the release of the 46-year-old Carney would have been made even if he hadn’t missed a 29-yard field goal in a 30-20 loss to the Arizona Cardinals on Sunday, Payton said he didn’t know. But he reiterated the need to add another running back and safety was a factor in the team’s decision. “That’s a good question,” Payton said. “Just paying attention to how Garrett is kicking and how he’s responded, without getting into a hypothetical, with the two needs here it just became challenging with that extra specialist.”

picked him up for the matchup. looks like might wanna look elsewhere.

Tynes deteriorates since Friday Lawrence Tynes, K NYGNews: Although the New York Giants were confident on Thursday that kicker Lawrence Tynes' injured left ankle would not cause him to miss the Week 6 game against Detroit, Tynes could do almost nothing during Friday's walkthrough. Tynes is very questionable for the game on Sunday and New York signed place kicker Shayne Graham in case Tynes is forced to miss the game.Analysis: Tynes could have been a nice low-end bye-week replacement Fantasy option in deeper leagues for Week 6 with this tasty matchup, but now he might not even play in the game. If you were planning on starting the native of Scotland, you better think about adding an insurance kicker now in case Tynes is inactive on Sunday morning. Graham would be suitable in a pinch, since he'd have the same matchup.
