****The 2019 Carolina Panthers Thread**** We Rhule At Losing (1 Viewer)

So Hardy's trial has been moved to an indefinite date after the season. Allegedly he and his agent feel that the deal wasn't sitting out all year and it isn't his fault they can't go to court. Going to be some manuvering to see if he can get reinstated. Maybe even a lawsuit.

So everyone is dumping on Cam and saying he shouldn't be paid until he proves he's worth it etc...blah blah blah. Let me flip the script here and ask, what's to keep him around? What evidence can the Panthers put in front of him as evidence that they are there to support him and committed to winning with him? Benjamin is about the only thing I can think of in four years.
Greg Olsen
Quite simply the best trade we ever did for a draft pick. Been a total pro the whole time and has really become a complete tight end. Blocking, playing fullback and running routes. Not to mention growing into a leader in the locker room.

Greg Olsen
He was here prior to Cam....not exactly what I am talking about as "evidence"

Anyone agree with me yet that Anderson gives us the best chance to win now? Really sucks to see Cam regressing.

May I give an unbiased, outsider view of your team? I'm not trolling -- y'all know me better than that.

The front office, first Hurney and now Gettleman, should be ashamed of themselves. The face of your franchise is a dynamic, exciting player who is entering the prime of his career. And he is surrounded by GARBAGE at the skill positions. This might not bother me as a Raider fan at this stage of our development, but you guys have a dominant, Super Bowl-ready defense, and they are gonna have to do it all by themselves.

The Seahawks won with a great defense, but their offense at least has some guys who will scare people. I don't see that in Carolina.

Certainly, you have to be frustrated with this, no? I'm frustrated for you.
I don't share your opinion. I don't think the WRs we have this year are worse than what we had last year. I'm excited to see Benjamin develop as well as the other youngsters. The veterans Avant and Cotchery are solid, and Underwood got some good time in last year for the Bucs. We also have Olsen plus Dickson to pair with him. The RB position is fine. I'm not seeing the garbage you are.
Wow, see, this is why I asked. I was curious to see how my views differ from the Panther fan. To me, Olsen is solid as hell. Beyond that, the RBs are ancient and made of tissue paper and the WRs are probably the worst in the league as a whole. Which one of them will be keeping defensive coordinatos up at night? Zero speed.

I hope I'm proven wrong because I want to see that D make a deep run.
Benjamin is going to keep coordinators up. His lack of speed has been greatly exaggerated. So has his supposed lack of route knowledge. I mentioned it earlier but I love how people act like Lafell was Rice. Smitty had lost a step. People laughed when we brought Ginn in now he is all world or something. Cotchery and Avant are both better than anyone not named Smith we had last year as a WR. Benjamin is looking like a true number 1. We didn't have one last year even Smith admitted that. This offense is going to be more potent that people think.
Well I was wrong about the Super Bowl-ready defense anyway.

It doesn't matter which QB they put back there. This entire organization is a trainwreck right now and that's not hyperbole. Jerry Richardson professes that Cam is the last QB he's going to hire, then hires a GM who obviously didn't agree initially. Then said GM proceeds to put this franchise in a position where they have to figure out if Cam's lack of productivity/progression is because of him (the GM) or Cam. Signing Cam long term would be the biggest decision in this franchise's history and instead of evaluating the progression of a potential franchise QB they are evaluating who's more of the problem.

At this point, I just feel sorry for Cam and the other players on the team. The ownership and management have let him down in a significant way and that's been a recurring problem in this organization for a long time now. Last night, this team lost it's will to fight. To me, that's on the coaches who still can't seem to figure out how to use the personnel GM has given them. Why was there a DE covering a sub 4.5 WR down the field exactly? I don't see this getting any better unless these guys band together and do it on their own despite the coaches and management.

To be fair to you....the defense you saw last year isn't the same defense on the field this year. "Rotate a secondary" isn't working well.

I will say this BnB....if the yahoo reports are true and Cam's right ankle/foot is now a problem because he's overcompensating for his left foot, there is NO reason Cam should be in the game late like he was last night. That's borderline recklessness by the coaching staff IMO and makes Rivera's comment about leaving him out there to figure it out a disgrace.

totally agree, there was no reason at all for him to be in late in the 3rd into the 4rth, pretty stupid actually

Agree with you, but at some point it's pretty embarrassing to be pulled for a relief pitcher yet again.

From Rivera's standpoint, maybe he needs reps to figure out that you throw to a wide open Stewart on 4th and 1 when he's a mere five yards away from you.

I think they can wait one more year. Pretty much a win/win for everyone. Cam bounces back he get's more money and the Cats know what they are getting. Cam continues down this path and we cut our ties.

It would be a mistake to let Cam walk, though to be honest, I would love to see what he could do in Chip Kelly's offense.

Actually I think its a good thing in the big picture, Cams not having a great year and this may mean we get him at a "discount". I cannot see under any scenario where they just let him walk and then have to spend a high pick on another qb. It just doesnt work like that. Cam has shown in the past when healthy he is a well above average qb. They just need linemen, corners, wideouts and a new running back. Thats it (lol). Then on the flip side we are going to have to pay Luke big boy money to keep him. He is the anchor.

I think it would be a mistake to sign up for 4 x $25mil right now with what we're seeing. I don't want Joe Flacco lite at that price.

nobody makes that now. I bet Cams contract would come in around 14-16 per year all things considered.

LOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You think you are getting Cam at a discount? That is not going to happen. Let me explain it to you like this. We live in a world where over the last two years, Cutler, Romo, Flacco, Dalton, and Alex Smith are getting anywhere from 17 - 20 mil a year!!! That means Cam is getting 25 million. It is not his fault that you have an o-line that gives up 9 frikking sacks, or that you have a group of rbs that are old and always injured, or that you let all of your wrs go. He is getting paid, you can bank on that. Put Cam on any decent team and he is better than all of those chumps.

Give him the same type of deal Kaepernick got. 13M signing bonus and the yearly salaries (12.4M, 13.9M, 16.5M, 17M, 18.8M) are only guaranteed for injury. Daulton only got 17M guaranteed. Newton isn't getting 25M.

Having said that, this is the same ownership that signed DWilliams, Stewart and Tolbert to fairly large contracts so anything is possible. I like the idea of a Kaepernick type deal-Cam gets his money and the team is protected too.

He's clearly playing hurt. Throwing off balance to compensate for an injured foot isn't helping his mechanics. If this is what we have, shut him down and let DA finish the season so Cam can get healthy. Concentrate on shoring up this awful offensive line for next spring.

I suspect Newton thinks he's worth $25mil.

Can we franchise him after next year?

Anyone agree with me yet that Anderson gives us the best chance to win now? Really sucks to see Cam regressing.

I don't see this getting any better unless these guys band together and do it on their own despite the coaches and management.
right or wrong they really have no choice but to sign Cam long term.
I think they can wait one more year. Pretty much a win/win for everyone. Cam bounces back he get's more money and the Cats know what they are getting. Cam continues down this path and we cut our ties.

Yes.

I know its possible but I dont like the idea of franchising your QB. I would rather them just sign him long term and go from there. He needs help, oline wr etc and hopefully we can move forward in the off season. But as I said earlier Luke is going to get paid and thats going to hurt

He's clearly playing hurt. Throwing off balance to compensate for an injured foot isn't helping his mechanics. If this is what we have, shut him down and let DA finish the season so Cam can get healthy. Concentrate on shoring up this awful offensive line for next spring.
Then what are you going to do when DA leads us to the playoffs?
A happy dance  In all seriousness, that would be a good problem to have at this point.

So, is anyone else pissed at this organization like I am? Between the silence of the front office and the treatment of Newton, it's embarrassing.

So all that trouble to trademark 'Riverboat' Ron and that guy is long gone. Wonder if he's going to bother to trademark 'I have no confidence in my team so I'm going to close my eyes and hope we don't wet the bed' Ron. On a positive note, I liked that Cam battled through the adversity of the day and had them going where they needed to be going at the end. This is on Ron for stomping on the emergency break from the passenger side of the driver's ed car.

Has a coach of the year ever been fired the very next season? Because 1 out of 4 isnt getting it done. I dont think there would be a single fan that would cry if he got the boot and we hired someone with some offensive creativity.

LOL at that ever happening…referring to us hiring someone offensively minded.

bring in Jim!

This team has Cam, Olsen, KB and nothing else on offense. Defense has more talent but hasn't played well either. Gettleman should be fired along with Ron, I'd blame more of this year on him than Ron.

Think about it for a minute - you have a young franchise QB (Cam at least appears to have that potential), your plan for your team is to decimate your WR corps, go cheap on OLine and rely on broken RBs who have never shown they can carry a load? I don't think Luck or Rodgers could do well with that makeup. Maybe when Cam matures with experience he could (like Brady) but he's not there yet.

I'm not a Panthers fan, but I like our local team. It's just sad when it's run so poorly.

Amazing decisions there at the end. Let's not try to get another first down to ensure ATL doesn't have any time to drive for a winning FG anyway (if we make the FG).. let's also not try for a first down so that Gano has a 35 yarder instead of a 49 yarder.

I'm also glad Cam played through his stinkiness that was the first 3 quarters. When he gets down it brings everyone down, but at least he is not RGIII.

ATL was last in the NFL against the run and we have 2 rushes for 9 yards in the second quarter. David Shula?

I'd pass out if they fired Rivera. That would force Richardson to pay TWO coaches. History suggests Richardson would rather have a lame duck coach than have to pay two coaches. And no coach worth his salt would come here for the pennies he'd be offered.

DA would already be dead behind our offensive line. The only reason we have an iota of a chance is Cam. When I see Cam take a 3 step drop and get crushed by an unblocked journeyman D lineman I have a hard time blaming him for a lack of production. Gettleman gambled and lost on the O line. As an owner I might be looking to fire him. This was a huge miss that even a nobody like me saw coming. If he didn't he has the wrong job and should find a new one. We should have never ever spent all the money we did on Greg Hardy. It was stupid and wasteful. And as I mentioned this isn't about the domestic thing. I still think he walks on that. It's about too many holes to fill to pay one guy like you are just one guy away. Bell never had the feet to be a right tackle he certainly doesn't to be a left tackle. And how many times to we have to see Nate on his ### looking up at the pass rusher from the turf to admit he can't do it either? I like Turner. I like Norwell. I even like our Canadian tackle. But Bell should have never made the team as anything but a backup maybe.

If Cam walks then who the hell we going to get? Some washed up journeyman? Winston? Kid can't thrown an on time ball to save his life. You can get away with that in college but he is going to be an interception machine in the NFL. Until we have an NFL caliber O line Cam is not going to play well.

Right there with ya NCC. They need to make a decision this off season. Are they going to go with Cam or not. If they are, they need a coaching staff that occasionally thinks about the offense. The current staff + Cam will never win here and I question whether or not Gettleman is a good fit as well. Does he know what's necessary on the offensive side of the ball to be successful in this league? It takes more than having a good front seven on defense to win in this league Ron fooled me last year with his "change" early in the year, but he's regressed back to the scared coach he was his first year here. It doesn't appear that he's learned much of anything and that's unfortunate. I have NEVER seen a coaching staff willfully CHOOSE to go from applying pressure to the other team to applying pressure to their own team. I just sat there and shook my head as I saw things unfold.

Well Rivera said if it was earlier in the game he would have gone for it. I think he should have anyway. Really Gettleman is the one who gets my goat right now. It is so obvious he was dead wrong. This front office hides and leaves Ron to twist in the wind. Just like they did on the Hardy thing. It wasn't Ron's job to address that. In every other situation the owner and GM handled it. Not here. Cowards.

Yeah, we won't hear from them. My opinion of "management" is well documented around here all the way up to Richardson. I heard his comments and was left in another WTF moment. Earlier in the game he'd have gone for it when they weren't able to do anything but at the end of the game when they're rolling he decides to apply the brakes....yeah, that makes sense. I officially feel sorry for the players on this team.

Well as he pointed out if he had gone for it and they didn't get it the opinions wouldn't have been to good either. That FG goes through and the D pitches a 3 and out, like they did, everyone is happy. He was trying to win. And he thought he could playing it that way. Which is also the way the majority of head coaches in this league would have played it IMO. And really have you met our line? Do you trust them on 4 and 1 for the win? Not sure I do.

Sorry....have to disagree. I know of few coaches in the NFL who wouldn't ride the hot hand. I don't know of another coach in the NFL that wouldn't trust their franchise QB to go and win the game for them. I understand your position under circumstances where they hadn't gotten on a roll and hadn't been moving the ball.

You have a strong legged kicker who has been pretty good at long kicks. You have a defense that is playing pretty well. You have a chance to break a losing streak before going into your bye and to beat a conference opponent. I think you are mistaken in what most head coaches would do in that situation

/\ add to the fact that they already knew NO lost and this was for first place. Totally ridiculous.

I truly wonder if Ron gets another year.

It is asking a lot for Cam to overcome the blocking, lack of talent at RB/WR, AND terrible playcalling. Playing for the FG while Cam is shredding the defense is mindblowing stupidity. Almost like continually throwing deep outs on 3rd and short.

Shula and Gettleman need to be fired.

I get why they made the call they did. But if I am playing the worst pass defense in the NFL I take my shots when my QB gets hot,
