****The 2019 Carolina Panthers Thread**** We Rhule At Losing (2 Viewers)

I don't think crowd noise was an issue at all. Cam played ok. What's amazing is how our WR cannot get open, yet the Saints WR are routinely open by 6+ yards. It isn't like the Saints DBs are all-world. Smitty is a tough guy but we need an A. Boldin, if not a Calvin Johnson or Brandon Marshall. A big guy with half the intensity of Smitty. Please draft someone!

Field goals won't beat the Saints, but I still think the formula to beat them is get to Brees. We didn't do that and it isn't because his line blocked so well. He got rid of the ball quick. There were a lot of timing routes last night as opposed to Brees surveying the field. That minimized the pass rush and exposed our DBs IMO. WR were allowed to run free off the line. To fix that I think the DBs need to play more physical and knock them off their routes. But every team doesn't have a Drew Brees. We have to adjust and be better prepared next time.

I knew a win would be tough but I expected better play from our D. NO really manhandled our DTs for the most part. Very little impact from that position. I thought the LBs played OK. But we do need a corner. Bad. Offensively I thought Cam took what was there and did OK. But as constituted this isn't a team coming back from 21 down. Oh we also need a receiver. Bad. Oh well have to snap back and go beat the Jets. We need to win out to stay ahead of SF.

I love how Luke K plays but I hope he watches the film and learns from the first Graham TD. He should have decleated him when he came across the middle and took him completely out of the play. You can't let Graham get you on his hip at the goal line like that. You have no chance.

This happened to Steve Smith late in the game. He drug across the middle and was hammered by the middle LB. I hope they pause the film and point that out this week. They could also watch the SEA/NO film and see how they beat up on NO receivers.

Kinda knew when they had to settle for two field goals it wasn't going to end well. The defense didn't set the tone early and they had to play from behind. Recipe for a loss.

Kind of concerned about Stewart. MRI today on the knee.
Partial MCL tear
Yeah looking like done for the season. I guess at least we can be glad it was the MCL which isn't as bad as an ACL.
Saying he may be able to return by the end of the year. That would be amazing. Nice tackle at the knees.
Yeah I saw where Rivera said something about being available for the playoffs or maybe the last game against Atlanta. Seems like rushing back to me. Usually you want about 6 weeks or so for that injury,

A couple of reporters who hadn't been around Hardy when he's in full "Kraken'' mode left scratching their heads after the whole explanation as to why he went with Hogwarts for his alma mater.

Here's how it went:

Reporter 1: "Where did you come up with Hogwarts?"

Kraken: "Have you ever seen Harry Potter? Hogwarts. A little witchcraft. Wizardry.''

Reporter 1: "How long have you been thinking of that?"

Kraken: "It's The Kraken. Mystical. It's where he lives at.''

Reporter 1: "You're mixing mythology and fantasy.''

Kraken: "I can do whatever I want. I'm The Kraken. . . . If you feel you can ask The Kraken personally where he goes to school, and prove me wrong, then I feel like I'll change it.''

Reporter 2: "How long have you been Kraken?''

Kraken: "For as long as I can remember. Yesterday.''

Reporter 1: "Is Ole Miss Hogwarts?''

Kraken: "No, that's not where I said I went. Hardy went to Ole Miss.''

Reporter 1 as Reporter 2 steps back: "And Kraken didn't?''

Kraken: "That's time blown right there. You gotta listen. I'm talking. You've got to listen.''
I love me some Greg Hardy. I sure hope we can find a way to keep him on the roster.

Playoff Update

1. Seattle 11-2. No need to discuss further, basically locked into the 1 seed

2. NO 10-3. STL/CAR/TB remain. Cake walk to the two seed. lose tiebreak with Sea.

3. Philly 8-5, 7-2 conf. MIN/CHI/DAL remain. Lost to Dal earlier.

4. Det 7-6, 6-4 conf. BAL/NYG/MIN remain. Sweep the CHI

5. Carolina 9-4, 7-3 conf. NYJ/NO/ATL remain. Beat SF, lost to ARI, DNP PHI/DAL/CHI/DET

6. SF 9-4, 6-3 conf. TB/ATL/ARI remain

7. ARI 8-5, 5-5 conf. TEN/SEA/SF remain

8. DAL 7-6, 6-3 conf. GB/PHI/WAS remain

9. CHI 7-6, 4-6 conf.

10 GB 6-6-1, 4-5-1 conf.

Assuming we win out, we are in with the 5th seed. Don't see NO losing to TB or STL

Assuming we finish 2-1 beating the NYJ we finish with a 8-4 conf record and 11 wins. That eliminates DAL on down. ARI/SF play each other. Assuming each win all their other games, you have two scenarios.

ARI win: All are 11-5. ARI has a 7-5 conf record, SF has a 8-4 conf record. ARI eliminate and we retain #5.

SF win: ARI eliminated, we get the #6 seed.

Assuming we finish 1-2 beating the NYJ we finish with 7-5 conf record and 10 wins.

CHI and GB can't catch us based on conf record. DAL can but would win the division under that scenario leaving PHI. PHI would have to beat both MIN and CHI to jump us.

ARI win v. SF: We'll need SF to lose to ATL or TB to get in

SF win v. ARI: We'll need SF to lose to ATL and TAM OR ARI to TEN or SEA

Assuming we finish 0-3, we don't deserve to go so I'm not going to work out the scenarios in detail. A quick glance seems to indicate that we would get bumped based on the remaining teams having games against each other.

We can clinch a spot this week if we win and 4 other teams lose. Doesn't seem likely to happen. SF would have to lose to TB for one. That seems unlikely.

Might as well start with the good...

1. Round 2 next week. We now control our destiny for the #2 seed.

2. Cam is looking better.

3. Dallas lost

But since I'm Mr. Negetive the second list is longer

1. Something needs to change in our offense. Put Cam on Philly, Minny, Dallas (I could go on and on) and he's hanging 50 every other week. I really think Smitty has lost a couple of steps. We don't have any speed on the field outside of Ginn. May be too late, but I'd be working up more plays for Barner.

2. Our stadium was a 1/3 empty at kickoff and the upper deck seemed sparse all day. Jet fans were noticeable in numbers. Weather gets cold and football season is over and it's ACC basketball time.

3. Arizona winning in OT was a killer. Seattle has nothing to play for so Arizona may have a chance next week. Even though the field got thinned this week in the WC race with our win, we lost some options where we had a tiebreak advantage of Arizona in 3 team ties.

4. Defense was sort of ho hum. Going to need to keep improving to make a run.

5. Red zone effiencieny has fallen off a cliff.

1) I don't think anyone will dispute we need some help on the outside. Smitty should be in the slot at this point in his career.

2) The stadium thing pissed me off. If you aren't going to show up when the team is winning and winning well at home when are you going to show up?

3) Yeah would have loved for Arizona and San Fran to lose but the loss by Philly and by Dallas helped. The loss by the Saints is of course huge.

4) Defense seemed a bit sluggish early but they made some adjustments and played well at the end

5) We definitely need more TD's.

1. The Panthers have had a tough schedule this season, and most teams with tough schedules aren't hanging 50 every other week. Also, teams that have to throw a lot don't have good running games, and they have bad defenses. I like that the Panthers chew up the clock often with long drives. They need Steve Smith's replacement, and that person isn't on the team yet. Smitty lost a step a couple years ago, but nobody can match his fire. He is still very valuable to the team even in a supporting role. Hopefully they address the WR issue after the season.

2. The seats are sold, but the people aren't there. It's generally more full than it was this past Sunday, but there is only one more weekend left until Christmas, and the weekend is the only time some people have to shop. I think some felt the Panthers wouldn't have a problem beating the Jets. We'll see if they are there for the Saints game.

3. Panthers control whether they make the playoffs, and take the division.

4. The defense made good adjustments after the half.

5. They need to work on that.

1. We really need a WR or two that can make plays.

2. This was the most annoying thing for me. It takes time to change a culture I guess. With the popularity of college football around here I would hope that a winning team would fill the stadium eventually.

This team is headed in the right direction, IMO, but I'm afraid they aren't ready for prime time just yet.

Did anyone catch the beginning of the Pitt/Cinny game? After half that place was a ghost town worse than our place. Curious what it looked like at kickoff. If the Steelers have turned into a wine and cheese crowd, I'll drop it.

Maybe so but I have a lingering feeling I can't put my finger on. Cam seems to be making more and more big time throws. What I mean are throws that make you say wow, not the gross number of throws. I just left thinking we should be absolutely destroying people if he would do this regularly. Maybe Cam and offense are being extra conservative, but maybe on WR is the worst in the league and just can't get open.

0-2. No teams in the past 4 years have started 0-2 and made the playoffs.
I was hoping I could bump this post, and now I can. The Cats made the playoffs! I hope they win next weekend. I'd love for them to win the divison, get a bye, and get more time to get healthy. I know Smitty has 5 stitches in his hand, and it's real swollen from jamming it, but now he has some leg injury too. Hopefully it isn't serious. He is up there in age, but he still makes a difference in the offense.

Man, I relocated from Pittsburgh to Charlotte 4 years ago and it's been tough rooting for this team, especially with all of the fair-weather fans and transplants in Charlotte. Heck, I was told to sit down at the stadium when I got up to cheer. I really want them to be my "other" team.

But that defense is nasty and I love watching them. If that offense adds a playmaking WR next year to compliment Smith, Lafell, and Olsen moving the chains, watch out.

It counts even if you didn't deserve it. Defense was huge and Luke made a bid for DPOY today. Cam came up large when it mattered.

That said, some needs to get their head out of their behind. That looked like a Fox and Clausen offense today.

Why didn't they deserve the win? New Orleans didn't play better offensively. Some games are ugly, but the Panthers got it done. That isn't not deserving to win.

Cam looked a little like second year Cam yesterday. Air mailing everyone. But he got it done when it mattered and regardless of what happens going forward this season, Cam has gained a ton of valuable experience in big games this year. Please get him some playmakers to throw to.

Luke is a robot with a GPS locked in on the ball. What did he have, like 30 tackles? I think his presence and leadership has elevated Thomas Davis' game too. What a difference they've made.

Thankfully the phantom covering the snapper call didn't hurt too bad. That was a huge with them punting out of the end zone.

Just moved from PA to Charlotte this year, grew up in Pittsburgh. I'm not finding it hard to cheer for this team at all.

:) This year has been juuuuuuuuuuust a little different than the last few! From a Panthers standpoint, you picked the right year to move here.

It's a completely different atmosphere in the stadium too compared to what I was used to at Three Rivers and Heinz Field, but I'm coming around.

Of course they deserved the win. They never stopped playing. They never gave up. The defense was lights out. On offense we had gimpy Cam, no Smith and they still pull it out in the final 32 seconds. That is the kind of game eventually 3 times as many people were at as the stadium can hold. I remember the Dolphins perfect season. I remember they had to pull it out and win close more than once in an ugly game. All that matters now is they didn't lose. That's all that matters here. Any game you win in the NFL is a good win that your worked your ### off for.

And how about Luke and Davis? At this point I think they are the best starting LB tandem in the NFL and two of the best playing their positions. 24 tackles and an intereception? That is some Madden stuff. That incredible leaping interception not to mention the multiple screen breakups? After 3 repaired ACLs? Unbelievable. These guys are all that. They better both make the All Pro team. Seems like no way Davis gets a pro bowl nod based on voting. Which is a damn shame.

I can't say enough about how pleased I am with how far this team has come. This was a team that couldn't close… didn't know how to win. Didn't know how to hold a lead… however you want to phrase it.

We've seen the growth, as if it wasn't already obvious the last few weeks, it's now smack you in the face obvious. They now have wins over SF and NO, two of the best in the NFL, in games where they clearly weren't playing at peak efficiency. To me, that's the mark of the best teams… finding a way to win when you don't have your A game.

They played a complete game against the Pats and won, but the wins against SF and NO to me are more impressive -- when things clearly weren't going their way, they still find a way to pull it out.

In my mind, this team is build for the playoffs… trying to hold the excitement in check, but it's hard to not be on cloud 9 right now as a lifelong fan.

Smith sprained his PCL, and is doubtful for Sunday against the Falcons. I'm glad it wasn't worse, and I hope he can participate in the playoffs. A win in Atlanta would be a much needed bye. Ginn will take over his spot until he is back.

Nervous about Sunday. ATL had SF on the ropes until the pick 6 and they'd love to beat the Panthers in their last home game. I don't see them mailing it in (although they would improve their draft pick if they lose) so we better be ready to close the lid on a very good regular season and take care of business.

Hope Hixon and Ginn step up big for Smitty. And they better defend Gonzo better this time around. Getting a bye and a home playoff game is huge.. and no way does NO lose to the Bucs in the dome. Make it so Panthers!

Well the Panthers shutdown Tony in the second half of the last game I would expect them to continue what they were doing. The key here will be getting a lead early. They can not let this team hang around or they may well regret it. They need to get on them early and put up a couple of touchdowns while the Defense does it's thing, Just make it look out of reach and people will start thinking "I like the 6th draft spot" hopefully. Every interview I see it seems the Panthers players get this. They know Atlanta wants to do to them what they did to Atlanta last season especially since this is allegedly Tony's last game, you know they want to win it bad. Everyone better come to play.

Wasn't Roddy White out last time they played ATL? I can't remember, but with him on the field they won't be able to focus all their attention on Tony. Still, the key is the pass rush. And I agree, if our offense can get a couple of TDs and set a pace it will help a great deal. I don't want a shootout with ATL. And we don't have Smitty.

5 Pro Bowlers. Luke, Cam, The Kraken, Tolbert and Kalil. Davis got jobbed and really I think Gross did as well. But it's a nice change from last year. Of course we hope they don't get to play due to another commitment but it's nice to see them get some recognition.

If you haven't heard this call from our Spanish radio team of the game winner against the Saints you should check it out. I count 20 times. Love the soccer style passion.

BTW the Panthers are one of 16 NFL teams with a Spanish announce team. I saw an interview with our guys and they were talking about nicknaming all the players to make it easire for fans to connect as it is customary for Mexican fans especially apparently. Cam is the Dinosaur. CJ is the Head Hunter. Smitty is Angel Hands.

I saw the Spanish radio team interviewed last night on the Panther Huddle.

What a finish to a great year! Play of the day was Tolbert blowing up guys.

We really need this bye week. Can't depend on 9 sacks and a pick 6 come playoff time. I wouldn't mind if they cut LaFell and started someone off the practice squad. Zero catches today is pretty telling of his talent. Hardy has become a total beast. I hope we can afford him.

Whew, that was a close one. I figured it would be. I was really nervous there at the end until Atlanta's center hiked the ball when Ryan wasn't ready. It's awesome that a lot of Panther fans showed up for the game. I had seen on the news over the last few days that charter buses were going, etc. Hopefully the bye will be enough time to help the injured get healthy. Cheers to the Cats for giving us fans a great regular season. :banned:

Hoping he gets a SOLID WR in the offseason!

Id be cool with Kenny Britt even, and a SOLID rookie

Britt is high risk/reward. I'd be OK with him if they draft another, or a 2nd TE.
