****The 2019 Carolina Panthers Thread**** We Rhule At Losing (1 Viewer)

Listened to the game while I worked yesterday so I missed some parts. But here were my impressions.

For a patchwork line versus some serious pass rush they held together. I think Moten is the LT of the future for this team. He wasn't perfect but he held up pretty good. He needs snaps to bad they have to happen when its for real but there you go. We got the guy we traded for who should be ready for next week at RT and PFF graded him out as better than average last year. It's a work in progress but I see glimmers of hope.

CMC put in some good work and looks like he'll excel in this offense. In fact all the runners looked good and again that's at least partially due to the line.

The receivers had some nice catches but that area still seems to need some work although to be fair the Cowboys have some good Dbs.

Cam looked like he had bought in and was throwing a lot of checkdowns. He did fit some in tight windows but he does have the arm for it. Timing on the long stuff is off a bit but hopefully that will come.

The defense was stellar. I think this made the 20th game without allowing a 100 yard rusher. And they really held the Cowboys in check until desperation time. 6 sacks is a nice start. The young guys made some mistakes but they didn't make them twice. Donte seems like the real deal.

Special team played well. Had a couple nice run backs and generally pinned Dallas deep with the punts.

In general this was a good win. Won a home game,  won a game against the NFC and hold a tie breaker against a team many think is play off material. Nice start to the new era.

I really doubt this.  Their offense has looked lost for over a season now.

It was a classic early season home game for Carolina.  Just grinding out a defensive win.

Not sure what happened to the run defense yesterday.  They were getting gashed all over the field.  Bradberry played well and so did Jackson, although I wish he would have used his hands on the INT and stayed on his feet instead of jumping to catch it with his stomach and falling back down on the 2 yard line.  He could have ran for awhile with a little better technique.

Thomas missed a sure TD by not trying to catch it with his hands.  Bounced right off his shoulder pad.  Those gloves are sticky, use them.

Funchess let a crucial 3rd down ball go right through his hands.  He makes great plays but sometimes loses focus on balls in clutch spots.  Since 89 left, we still don't seem to have that go-to WR out there.  Although, Wright and Smith made some great plays in the clutch (even though Smith killed us with penalties in places).

Not sure what they're doing with CJ Anderson.  He had 3 for 30+ rushing for most of the game and he's on the sidelines until the 4th... and when he comes in they want to throw it to him?  Hey CJ, Cam throws darts, you better be ready for the outlet.  That turnover hurt.  I say give CJ the ball in the first half game plan.  CMC is our outlet guy.  So far he's the best in the league at that.

Terrible hit on Cam but I believe we all were fortunate it wasn't quite as bad in slow motion as it looked full speed.  The guy tried to missile Cam's head but was a little off target.  Still, a huge BS, dirty, play on his part.  Glad he was tossed and I hope he's fined.

Overall, I thought it was a good effort and good game.  Better run defense and we may have pulled out the win.  O-line played as good as expected, as depleted as they are.

It figures that Cincy is playing great right now and they're next.  Mixon is out so hopefully they'll game plan to hold Bernard coming out of the backfield.

It REALLY sucks when they lose to the Falcons!

Thanks for the summary Jayrok.  I don't get the games down here unless they are the national game or playing TB.

DJ Moore finally got a target or two.  He showed nice elusiveness and speed on that 51 yard TD.  He doesn't go to the ground when hit like some WR tend to do.  You have to tackle him.  And he almost came up with the last second throw between 3 defenders in the end zone.  Hopefully it's a good sign that they'll bring him further into the game plan going forward.

I was actually impressed with the O-line for the most part, given that we are essentially starting 4 guys who were not projected to be starters before training camp. Moton is a great young lineman, and the new guy Clark played pretty amazing considering he got two practices in this week and was watching the Dallas game from his couch somewhere.

Defensive front was atrocious. Even Luke was missing tackles yesterday. Donte Jackson is very up and down, but I think he'll be a very good player for us.

Cam was pretty darn good, and I love watching CMC play.

Sucks to lose, but it was an away game and we are in a tough spot injury wise right now. I'm still optimistic for the season.

Another nice win.  DJax with 3 picks in two weeks.  The d-backfield has a ways to go but I believe they are going to get better.  Course it didn't hurt us when AJ Green went out.

What a great game by CMC.  Love watching him run the ball.  Cam had a nice game too except for the bone-headed play that took us out of FG range in a critical time of the game.  But, it worked out.  He's too old for that nonsense.

Obada with a couple of huge plays.  His story is incredible.  Some good grabs by Funchess.  And Thomas is playing well in Olsen's absence.  I think the story of the game was how well the offensive line held up, not only in protecting Cam but run blocking for CMC.  Great effort by those guys.

Good game by a lot of different players.

We desperately need to acquire a safety. I think there is some serious potential in this team, but Jones is just awful back there. Definitely won't do the job if we are trying to make/advance in the post season.

Yeah, it's troublesome to see how good the rest of the teams in the division are.  I think the Bucs will come back to earth, but ATL and NO are both juggernauts.  Just don't see how we can stop them.

A Jamal Addams type would be nice back there.  Could have potentially had Earl Thomas, but he would have probably been just a one year rental.

CMac is awesome to watch.  Not sure 30 touches is sustainable though.  Very disappointed in the WRs.  Starting to look like Ridley was the pick we should have made in the draft.

Thought the same yesterday.  ATL has found ways to best use Ridley, while our #1 pick seems to be lost in the back end of the system.  Probably not his fault but Norn needs to find better ways to use him.  Those flared backfield passes won't cut it in the NFL.  No one can block out there and they never work.  Get him down field.

Samuel can't stay on the field.  Hope it wasn't two consecutive whiffs at WR in the draft.

I agree that CMC can't keep getting 30+ touches.  I think CJ should be much more involved.

Julio Jones helps draw coverage that opens up Ridley. Moore could be having the same success if he was at Atlanta, and used like Ridley.

I was pleasantly surprised at how well the patchwork OL played, and the offense in general was in sync yesterday and played well.

Smith needs far fewer snaps and hopefully they can find a way to get Moore more involved. I think Moore will eventually be fine.

I think it's just a matter of time for Moore. I think Norv is getting stuff on tape for teams to defend and then springing a new wrinkle on them each week. I wouldn't be surprised if we see a week where CJ is the workhorse and CMC plays decoy all game. Same with Moore they have focused on other receivers while he still works out timing and routes. He'll get his I think down the road.

Obada won Defensive Player of the Week for the NFC. Amazing story and an amazing athlete. May be our best pickup this season when we look back down the road.

Big statement for D. Tepper and the new leadership for the Panthers.  Richardson certainly wouldn't have made this deal.  He's joining a good defense that just needed safety help.  Could be what the doctor ordered in a division with so many gunslingers at QB.  He'll make us better.

Let's go Panthers!

Panthers fans quick question about game day

I’m taking my daughter to the Giants game this weekend, she wants to watch Odell warm up.

Our seats are in the upper deck.

How early do they let people in the stadium? Will they let us into the lower bowl during warm ups if our tickets are for the upper bowl?

Uh, wow.  What a kick. Had 7 yards to spare.  Was about to say there's no way the Panthers should have lost that game.

Odd play calling and time management. Letting OBJ off the line running free all day. No pressure on Eli Manning.  Eli Manning!  The sack/fumble king of QBs.

Is anyone else tired of taking timeouts because the play clock is out?  It's Cam's 8th year and he still needs 5 timeouts a half.     oof

Great win, though!

That run play on third and one with seconds left was weird. Thankfully Gano had a bionic leg today. It was nice to have Samuel back. He is a bit of mystery since he missed a lot of last season and some of this season. Cam said they hope he will add speed to the game. I'm glad for the win, but both sides of the ball almost threw that game away. Maybe that is a good thing that they know they have a lot to improve on. The Skins are up next.

This is a championship level team if Moore and Samuel fulfill their potential.  Weapons galore for Cam.

GL  keep pounding.  Would love to see a Rams/Cats NFCC.

We were playing the Giants.

The Rams would beat us by 20....

In the first half.

Giants are streaky especially when Eli is in. There are actually a lot of good takeaways from that game. Including that we actually managed a win after the bye something we haven't done very much of in the past.

It's good to get TD and Olsen back this week.  Hopefully Greg can stay on the field for the rest of the season.   The run D isn't the same without TD.  Glad he's back.  Also should be able to get E. Reid fully involved in the defensive game plan for this week.

I’m ok with struggling to beat the Giants. They’re bad but they have some elite players on offense and I feel like it’s typically tough to beat a desperate team in the NFL.

I expect both to be on snap counts. But having TD back in the locker room and on the sideline will be a good thing. He is really such a leader and the heart of the defense.

Turnovers put us in a hole.  Defense had a hard time getting off the field.  One possession in the third quarter.  Offense looked good in spots but came up short.

Yeah we played poorly on all sides of the ball. But we had a chance at the end. As I told a Washington fan at work I would've taken the win but we really didn't deserve it and they outplayed us most of the game. Their defense is really good.

I was watching the game and the Bengals/Steelers game during breaks.  Games were very similar in late 4th quarter situation.  Bengals go down and score too quickly.  Ben brings his team down the field and calls an audible after recognizing a corner blitz.  Brings 84 in close to hit the hot pass right down the seam where the corner used to be.  Game.  Experience.  Bengals stand there shocked at what happened.  Same old same old.  Experienced QB in big time situation.

In contrast, the Panthers had the right idea in bleeding the clock but Cam throws two to the end zone, overthrown.  Has 3rd and 5 around the 30 with two timeouts.  Two more overthrown balls.  Game over.  I was thinking how this was going to be a great game to look back on and see how Cam progressed in how he leads his team in late game comebacks, clock management, etc.

3rd and 5 and you know you need a TD to win so you have two downs to keep the drive going.  Time isn't an issue because you have two TOs.  Good spot for Cam to use his legs to get the first down.  Overthrown.  Not trying to compare Cam to Ben (or Brady who did the same thing against the Chiefs or Rodgers who did it to SF last night), I just wish our QB had some of those same types of chops when it counts.

I'm happy to say how good Cam played in the 4th quarter yesterday.  When he got the ball with just less than 2 minutes I said "okay, Cam... same situation as last week.. need a TD and you have two timeouts.  Let's do it this time."  He showed poise and nice patience.  Great effort getting the ball out on that crucial down to keep it going.

I think he read my post last week and it motivated him.

Great win, though.  And that had to be a really tough loss for the Eagles.  Quality road win for the Panthers.  And I thought they ripped us off on the INT by Reid.  Never saw it hit the ground.

That was iffy. I wasn't sure. I thought it could go either way, but since it was so iffy I figured there wasn't enough evidence to overturn it.  It was overturned. That no call where Ertz was pulling on a Panther's jersey near the goal line was head scratching. It was obvious as can be.  Oh well, glad the cats went home with a win.

I was hoping the Saints would lose their game.  They must have worked some of that New Orleans voodoo magic on Justin Tucker.

- I *think* the offense is getting better and more well-rounded. But I can't explain the first half yesterday

- Can anyone help Norv/Ron figure out how to get the ball to Samuel more?

- I can't figure out whether our defense is decent or terrible. I think they are both.

- Huge win! If the Ravens kicker doesn't miss an XP, we are potentially tied for first in the division right now. How big are the last 3 weeks of the season going to be, playing the Saints 2x? Crazy schedule.
