The 50 Greatest Hair Albums EVER. (1 Viewer)

One more and then I'll stop. Here's one from a band called the Electric Angels. They had a song that came out called Rattlesnake Kisses that I saw on mtv. I liked it and bought they album and loved it, start to finish. Not 100% sure they qualify as hair metal but anyway....this was their ballad and it's pretty cool:

a little before my time (i was in 6th grade) but wasnt Guns n roses nirvana to hair bands until Nirvana came along and sent GNR into obscurity.
In some circles Nirvana is solely responsible for killing hair metal.
I complete agree that Nirvana was the death of hair metal.
That and the fickle wussy fans that bailed.
Here are the hair band songs in the Billboard Hot 100 of 1991:

"High Enough" Damn Yankees

"Wind of Change" Scorpions

"Love of a Lifetime" FireHouse

"Hole Hearted" Extreme

"After the Rain" Nelson

"Signs" Tesla

"Something to Believe In" Poison

"Silent Lucidity" Queensrÿche

"I Saw Red" Warrant

"Miles Away" Winger

:X :

Can you blame anyone for abandoning the genre, especially when Nevermind came out?
Wow, that is some terrible music. These songs would be on a loop in my version of hell.

26. Queensryche Operation: Mindcrime (1988) https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/thumb/f/f7/Queensryche_-_Operation_Mindcrime_cover.jpg/220px-Queensryche_-_Operation_Mindcrime_cover.jpg

This is an oldie. Well its an oldie where I come from and many of you will #####, but this one goes out to my Clash of Clans buddy. I put more effort into the last half of the countdown so stay tuned.

1. I Remember Now

2. Anarchy X

3. Revolution Calling

4. Operation: Mindcrime

5. Speak

6. Spreading the Disease

7. The Mission

8. Suite Sister Mary

9. The Needle Lies

10. Electric Requiem

11. Breaking the Silence

12. I Dont Believe in Love

13. Waiting for 22

14. My Empty Room

15. Eyes of a Stranger
Start to finish, one of the tops of the genre. I'd argue its way too low on the list, but I'll just be happy it made the list.
Top 5 album for me. All genres.

I don't care how you qualify them, this album should be at the top of any list.

The only that sucks more than a hangover is having to make your own eggs because you struck out the night before. We'll get this train rolling again once I recover.

The discussion on ballads made me spend the last two hours on YouTube. I'd have to throw in What you Give by Tesla as one of my faves.

Not sure if they count as Hair Metal but man Triumph was awesome back in the day. I remember seeing them in the 80's and they just rocked live.

I've never thought of Queensryche as hair metal - they were more like a more theatrical version of Maiden and Priest back in the day, with a slice of Pink Floyd - but regardless, Mindcrime is a great record.

The second Damn Yankees record is far better than the first, but the first one has their most well-known hit, so I get why that would be the pick.

Me neither. Queensryche seemed more Maiden than Motley.

Damn Yankees always just seemed like a money grab to me. Coming of Age was a great tune though. I guess I just couldn't get past Ted Nugent, guy is such a tool.

Nugent never bothered me till he went off the reservation in the last 10 years or so, and by then, I was already a fan of those two Damn Yankees albums and a handful or so of his solo songs. His toolish behavior since doesn't make me like those songs any less.

Actually liked Nugent at the time (didn't know/care about his politics but liked #####), but hated the Damn Yankees sellout (IMO).

The nuge rules

This thread inspired my hair metal Pandora station debuted to my girlfriend last night on the way to dinner, some of the most fun we've had as a couple.

:headbang:

ETA: her late father loved hair metal, so although she is 31 she knows all the words to many of the songs.

It was the gum chewing in the videos that annoyed me.

50. W.A.S.P – W.A.S.P. (1984) https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/3/30/Wasp-first-album.jpg

Debut album for legendary front man Blackie Lawless and the boys. When the album was first released they caved to pressure and deleted the song “Animal (**** like a beast)” because some parents added it to a list of filthy songs. It was however, put back on in a 1998 reissue.

1. I WANNA BE SOMEBODY

 1. L.O.V.E. MACHINE
 2. THE FLAME
 3. B.A.D
 4. SCHOOL DAZE
 5. HELLION
 6. SLEEPING (IN THE FIRE)
 7. ON YOU KNEES
 8. TORMENTOR
 9. THE TORTURE NEVER STOPS
If you are gonna go with Bon Jovi which you should, Slippery When Wet was the big hair band album. New Jersey actually was done with a tougher edge around it as it released in the middle of the GnR run which I imagine will be somewhere in the top 5 much to my dismay.

1984 is a hair album? It's not high on the list so either it is or it isn't. If it is a hair album, it's one that produced a couple #1s and blew thru pop music among Michael Jackson, Madonna, and Prince...it doesn't get bigger than that and they were able to hold their own and sell millions of copies. I think if it's a true hair album then it should have been in the top 5.

I love the idea of ths thread, just wanted to get a little banter going. Look forward to the rest of the list.

Most underrated ballad - Desperate by BAbylon aD. Great hook. Saw that last year that were plAying shows on a hair metal cruise ship.
I'd put Y&T's "This Time" right up there as maybe "unknown ballad"

It was the "wedding dance" song for the wife and I
Tesla's "Love Song" made it into our wedding video as background during a picture montage.
While we're at it, Cinderella's "Nobodys Fool" has to be up there in the Rock Ballad category

35. Quiet Riot – Metal Health (1983) https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/thumb/7/7a/MetalHealthQuietRiot.jpg/220px-MetalHealthQuietRiot.jpg

Bang your head!!!!!! You ever been in a drinking contest with your entourage and had to dig down deep to get that next shot of Old Grand-Dad down? Metal Health will take you home, gentlemen.

1. Metal Health

2. Cum on Feel the Noize

3. Don’t Wanna Let You Go

4. Slick Black Cadillac

5. Love’s a #####

6. Breathless

7. Run for Cover

8. Battle Axe

9. Let’s Get Crazy

10. Thunderbird
Might have had this one higher. But close

I don't know, why? Are you suggesting they looked materially different when Metal Health was released??
That's not how I remember them from MTV. Only Sarzo had girl hair I thought. The drummer had a mullet. I don't know.
I dunno, looks similar to me!
If they aren't Hair Metal, I don't know what is.

34. Cinderella – Long Cold Winter (1988) https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/thumb/3/32/Longcoldwinter.jpg/220px-Longcoldwinter.jpg

Perfect spot for this killer album. I still listen to this album at least once a month. So bluesy. Track 3 has likely hit home for many of us.

Had to add. Speaking of bluesy, listened to Badlands Badlands this afternoon. Jake E Lee. Damn.
:goodposting:

Hated hair bands. I was always more of a death/doom type fan.

But Too Fast for Love has to be a Top 5. It changed music when it came out, imo.

Also in the OP.
Dr. Feelgood is criminally low.

Yea, Hair Metal died an ugly death.

I'm trying to decide if Tesla's awful cover of "Signs" makes them less hair or more.
I've used that song as a bathroom break the last 20 or so times I've seen them. The only version of it that I actually liked was the WAAF in-studio version with just Frank, Tommy and Jeff.
