The Americans (1 Viewer)

Ok so who was the redhead again? Didn't recall her at all. Also was the boy she was coaching on tailing cars the kids who murdered his family?
Annalise was on the Americans last season. She was a Russian Spy, and had a sexual past with Phillip. I think the boy is a new recruit that Elizabeth is training.
Pretty sure before the end of the season Elizabeth and the boy will be getting it on

Annelise was a recruit that Philip cultivated. She was he assitant to the Secretary of Defense. He used her a bunch of times since season 1.
Oh yeah, he recruited her under his Scott alias. He was her handler. I think his Scott alias is supposed to be a Swedish Intelligence Officer.

Who Elizabeth was listening to? Her Mom?

Her expressions went from joy to sadness to concern to anger
She says, I think in the Travel Agency office, that the package that Frank Langella gave her was a recording from her Mom and that she is dying.

I think Elizabeth was recalling a real event when she threw her daughter in the pool

Anybody notice NBC is doing the exact same show this season? Allegiance.

But yeah... I was a little underwhelmed by the season opener.

Was it wrong of me to like more than I should the naked body of a dead woman? Nice booty and a little nip slip too.

Pretty ho-hum episode but I think it sets up a lot of storylines for the coming weeks.

It made me want to crack some walnuts.

Was that Tony Kornheiser sitting at the bar?
Yep. He talks about the show a lot on his DC radio show. I don't remember the story about how his background appearance came about, but he took a few days off and got to be in the scene. I do remember he said the actual stars really didn't know who he was, but he did get a pic.

Gives new meaning to bagging a hot chick.
That was a pretty brutal scene. I loved that they got a pic of him in the action. A little protection.
Most brutal scene on cable broadcast since the prison murders in Breaking Bad.

I must have forgotten past scenes.

What is the connection with the Persian(?) dude and Phillip? Why was he comfortable with Phillip helping him with the body?

not that i remember. little bit of a stretch, but i think the guy was just so numb from having killed the woman.

we've missed the last two episodes.

mentioned this to the wife last night. her reply- "oh no, where will we be able to watch our sex in wigs"

i must have missed something in last night's ep...

how did the CIA/FBI know to tail their car?
The CIA was watching Paaswell (Gabriel warned Phillip and Elizabeth about it), and Phillip and Elizabeth went to Paswell's house to bug it, and pretended to be potential buyers at his open house. The CIA followed P and E when they left Paaswell's house, and the FBI was watching the CIA.

So, did the CIA follow everyone who attended the open house? I was thinking Paaswell had somehow tipped them off, but that didn't make sense either.

They probably did follow everyone who attended the open house, but there may not have been many who came. Sometimes nobody shows up at an open house. Phillip and Elizabeth started riding around DC for a long time when they noticed they were being tailed, and that made them look even more suspicious. Didn't they have like 11 cars on them at one point?

Yeah. And not that it matters, but they were in Frederick - about 40 miles N of DC.

Anyway, I don't usually nitpick - I can normally get from A to B, but this one mystified me

I thought the butt scene was very well lit.

How do they not have dentists on the payroll?

I have a feeling the defector woman isn't who she appears to be. After Stan says to the other guy about how he got the white supremacists to trust him (Just tell them what they want to hear) he was looking really close at her TV interview. He's on to her.

This.

I thought the dental scene was intense and got into the whole issue of trust.

Yeah, I didn't understand why they knew to follow that car either. Thanks.

My problem was that they went to that open house in the daytime and she rides around with cars tailing her well into the night? In a 1980ish GM four door? Wouldn't it run out of gas?

It could be that she fit the specific description of the woman that beat the crap out of the agents and happened to be at an open house for Paswell.

Gabriel said that the CIA were staking out their CIA Afghan agents, and I would think they followed anyone who went to Paswell's house. Like simey said, some people don't even go to an open house, and they had plenty of agents around to follow people.

So the babysitter is the daughter of the guy they are really hoping to get close to?

What are they hoping to get from that guy? Just bug his house for info on Afghanistan or actually grab him for interrogation?

I'm not really following the Russian consulate storyline too well this season.

Philip and Elizabeth are trying to find a way into the Afghan group. Paswell is second in command and desperate for money so they bugged his house to learn more.

I know but now it look like they got to the number one since it seems that the babysitter was the daughter of the higher up. I didn't hear the audio from the bug well enough, is there something going on between Paswell and the babysitter? Maybe that will be blackmail leverage.

Do they actually want to get in to the group or just get info on the group?

Is this show worth getting into?
I started with fairly low expectations shortly after season one, but it's one of my favorites now. Kind of odd because none of the characters -- and I mean literally zero -- are particularly well-crafted or interesting. I just like the concept and story.

I'm not sure what exactly they want, but you are right that Paswell and the babysitter have some type of major flirting going on, and she is the daughter of the CIA higher up. There is a reason for that storyline, but we don't know where it will take us yet.

Ah, ok...wasn't sure if I missed something.

The look on his face as he seduces that girl in the last scene?

Show goes into areas that haven't been so overdone in tv/film. Refreshing.

That was really good, great episode all around.

Great scene with Stan opening up to his wife too.

And example of what makes this show so good: when Nina first opens up to her cellmate as part of the plan, I was thinking that it was kinda cheesy, there's no way this other girl would buy her sudden openness. A lot of other shows would have ignored that and had the other girl fall for it right away. It was great that they had the girl roll over and not take the bait right away. The look on Nina's face when she realized she finally got the hook in her was great too. They could have gone with a wry smile but that wouldn't have fit either. The blank, knowing look was all that was needed.

And the daughter with the religious couple wouldn't be good if it was a stand-alone storyline, but it fits in with their plan for her so it's very interesting. I'd imagine the finale will culminate in some type of turning point with that.

Very good season so far.
