The Americans (3 Viewers)

The interrogations of all the FBI agents/employees seems odd. Am I mistaken, or don't federal employees have to freely submit to a polygraph test if something like this arises?

I have to say the coolest cat on this show is the head of the Soviet embassy in DC. "What are they gonna do? Tell me I can't ride the railroad back home? #### him." You know but it sounds better in Russian.

The black dudes accent and acting was horrible. I actually thought they were fake acting *wink wink* and weren't really going to go through with the tire fire.

OTOH - Keri Russell deserved an Emmy nomination for this season, imo. Was she nominated last time?

Malloy doesn't like it? Shocked.
I hated the pilot. Then I gave it a shot. It grew on me a little. I was actually surprised at how much it improved.

But the last 4-5 episodes have been boring and weak. They could do much better.
I literally fell asleep 20 minutes into this last episode.
DVR it and watch the next day, fellow old man
I was watching it on DVR. And I can't think of the last time I fell asleep in front of the TV.
Sounds like you should a) stop watching the show and b) stop posting in this thread

hmmm... i have a different take. i think the guy (Rhys - Phillip) is way more Emmy worthy than Russell is. She plays it a little too Treadstone for my taste.

Rhys nails it & I think he deserves an Emmy, but I think just about all of the cast is very good. Hell, I think John Boy does a really good job with what he's given.

Best episode of the season

I love how Paige basically deconstructed everything Elizabeth was working up to with her simple...we'll you can't just rob banks and stuff.

The South African thread was good....loved the tire scene and how even Phil and Elizabeth who've killed many had a hard time with that one.

Martha making a deal with the devil perhaps?

Some of the categories are hilarious:

Best Pressed Mams: Monika Dorota in The Mighty Angel

Best Sideburger: Nicole Fox in Redlands

Best Bush While Sucking Toe: Sylvia Hoeks in The Best Offer

Best Right Boob Only: Betsy Brandt in Masters of Sex

I didnt watch last nights episode yet but I gotta get one thing off my chest. This show is boring. Its VERY well done, very well written, very well acted, and very well directed but its boring. After three seasons, I gotta admit it. Not much really happens episode to episode. Also, i really dont root for any characters. Only one I like is Phil (and Clark lol) but I really dont root for him. The kids are just there. Keri Russell is loathesome. The FBI guy is so blah. The Russians are interesting but I am reading what they say most of the time. Just a weird show. Yet Ill keep watching and I dont know why. Carry on.
It's shoe-horned into an era, time and place where nothing monumental is going to happen that's noticed by the general public or history books.....so in the end, it's all about the characters and nothing else. I think it's all what you said...but a little more interesting.

The earlier complaint about not being able to check devices because of how you have to pay attention is an interesting one. Have we really come to that?

Hoping this show hangs on for more Nina butt.

I think so. I'm not a slave to the phone/IPad.....and this is a show that I don't want any outside stimuli present when watching. I don't think its an attention span thing...I think it's more of wanting to be totally immersed in the world. This show utlizied silence/non speaking forms of communication and character pauses more than most shows.

my guess is that Martha ultimately rats out Clark, but no one will be able to find anything about him. the FBI will conclude that she is making Clark up, unless she can describe him well enough for a sketch artist to match him up with the sketches from last season.

eta: the wigs will save him

In the final irony, Paige discovers her parents' true identities and turns them into the FBI. She then goes on to a long and prosperous career working in made-for-Lifetime Channel movies.

I joke; I still like this show even though I'm having trouble seeing where the whole South Africa tangent is contributing.

I think I missed where Alan Arkin's character (Gideon?) came from. Is he the new Mrs. Doubtfire? Was it just me or was he just thrown out there without even really being established, after the younger, hotter, version of Mrs. Doubtfire disappeared?

are you talking about Gabriel, played by Frank Langella?

Yes, Gabriel, played by Frank Langella.

this show frequently skips the "character establishment" phase of story-telling. iirc, Gabriel was their old trainer back in the day.
