Considering a used 3G iPhone but my company won't pay for the iPhone data plan (but they'll pay for any other unlimited data plan). Odd I konw but I'm wondering, what features do you lose if you don't have the 'iPhone specific data plan"? Will the phone still work? Will you still be able to use the app store? Web browsing still active?

I had heard that you just lose visual voicemail and couple other features but I'm not sure.

What do you mean by push functionality to all apps?

Right now I have two apps that show me updates: Mail shows me how many new emails I have and Facebook shows the number of messages/notifications that I have.Now, all apps will be able to push updates that you can see without opening the app. For instance, ESPN will have an app with a push feature that will show updated scores.

Not only can you now search within all core apps, you can use Spotlight to search across all of them. Awesome.

Stereo bluetooth will now be supported as well.

Other features include: New P2P bluetooth connectivity to play games, etc. (Don't need WiFi), accessories can now "talk" through the dock, in app Maps feature for developers to use, Voice Memo app for recording, Stocks app gets more info, some new Calendar functionality

Yes, but you dont need the kindle because it is delivered to phone instead. I understand making this available to iphone but dont understand why it is for free. I think they would have been able to fetch some money for it, especially since the kindle is so expensive and people buy it

They're paying for the device, not the software.And the software on an iPhone isn't the same thing as using a Kindle.

There are other free programs out there that do what the iPhone Kindle program does.

So there's really no way they could charge for it and expect to make much money on the program.

Where they want to make money is on the ebooks you purchase from Amazon on the free Kindle program.

My phone is still jailbroken. Haven't updated to latest release as it had nothing I wanted and didn't want to go through the trouble of jailbreaking again. Works like a charm. Hope 3.0 will be jailbroken quickly. Trying to figure a way to justify getting anohter new phone .

I bet it will happen pretty quickly. I realize the update will be pretty robust compared to the updates coming out now, but I found the jailbreak not more than 3 days after the last update so I am fairly certain it will be the case for 3.0

Yes to all of those.Also, I just purchased the MLB app. Streaming game audio for every baseball game for the year from both home and away team broadcasts. Plus in game video highlights, stats, etc. Not bad for $10. Basically those same features for MLB.com cost $20.

That Directv app is friggin sweet. In a matter of 60 seconds I started to record a show and watched the record light turn on my receiver. A must have for any DTV DVR owners.

I'm testing out some of the free aps now, but looking for something that I can chat with my wife (as apposed to wasting text messages). The skype one was not bad. Is there one that notifies you of a message (kinda like its an incoming text)?

I don't think you can activate an iPhone without the iPhone data plan...

If you get a used one, you can simply switch the sim chip and your phone would work. If you then register your phone through itunes, it will automatically add the data plan to your service. If you don't register, you can use the app store and web browins for free IF you have wifi access BUT if you default to 3g service they will charge you an arm and a leg. I believe it's $1/kb. I did this recently and thought I was just using the wifi option, but the connection was spotty and it switched over to 3g. I got my bill and it was $560. Luckily, I was able to get a refund as long as I agree to add the data service plan.

They haven't offcially announced it, but people are assuming it will be the same as the iPod Touch details that have been coming out. Either way, I am probably going to head to the AT&T store by my house to get in line sometime today.

It was my case. It's a nice plastic/rubber combo case by incipio. However, I was abusing it a lot because I kept pulling off just one corner to hook up to some speakers in the weight room. I checked some message boards online and it was suggested the sensors were somehow covered up. To check for this I just took the case off for a day. Worked just fine. If I make sure the case is on there nice and snug then no issues but it seems if the case doesn't sit well then the problem shows up again.So I would say it's a case issue and try it without the case to make sure. If not, then I don't know.
