The Apple iPhone Thread (2 Viewers)

How many of you use the safety film on the screen? The guy at the Apple store said you don't need it and demonstrated using house keys rhat the screen is very scratch proof. I can't keep a film on there more than a few days without a corner peeling back or bubbling badly from the sides when I put on a case. I'm thinking of just going with a case and no film is that a safe option?

Well I accidently skidded my phone acress the kitchen floor and it is definitely not scratch proof. The scratches are minor, but noticeable, especially with a white background.I ordered some iDrops from www.podshop.comWill let you know how those work repairing some minor scratches.

I have Invisible Shield on the front of my iPhone only after I got tired of the static screen protectors. Have to say I am very impressed with it. A little more expensive than the static protectors, but it will last me far longer.

Verizon iPhone Unlikely Before 2011

http://www.businessinsider.com/verizon-iph...ore-2011-2009-4

Beyond AT&T's attempts to extend their exclusive deal, Verizon is in the middle of a network technology change, upgrading from its current 3G network to a new 4G network. In an interview with the Wall Street Journal, Verizon (VZ) CEO Ivan Seidenberg said he thought it was more likely that Apple would be willing to work with Verizon Wireless on a 4G phone than a 3G phone.

Rumor: Apple Rejecting SlingPlayer iPhone App to Please AT&T

http://blog.wired.com/gadgets/2009/04/slingplayer.html

A gadget blog has posted a rumor that Apple plans to deny SlingPlayer — a popular TV-streaming service — from appearing as an app in the App Store. Why? To please AT&T, according to the unnamed source.

Electronista cites "a source close to Apple's approval processes," who claims Apple is giving SlingPlayer the red light because AT&T fears it will strain bandwidth on its network.

SlingMedia, which submitted the iPhone app in late March, could not confirm the rumor.

"I know there's a lot of rumors swirling around, but we talk to Apple pretty frequently about all sorts of stuff, and we haven't heard anything one way or the other as to acceptance of SlingPlayer for iPhone," SlingMedia spokesman Jay Tannenbaum told Wired.com.

AT&T and Apple declined to comment.

If the story turns out to be true, it would not be the first time Apple rejected an application to appease AT&T. In August, Apple clumsily approved and then banned an application called NetShare, which enabled tethering with the iPhone. NetShare developer Nullriver told Wired.com that Apple pulled the app because it conflicted with AT&T's terms and conditions.

Though the App Store has its share of success stories for developers, Apple has been scrutinized for being unclear with developers about its iPhone-app approval process. FreedomVoice Systems, for example, submitted its iPhone application Newber in October — and still hasn't heard an answer from Apple. As a result, FreedomVoice tabled further development, complaining that this lack of communication could cost the company $600,000 in funding spent on Newber.

The rumor about SlingPlayer Mobile and AT&T is questionable, but believable. You can certainly imagine why AT&T would feel worried about bandwidth on its already strained network. PCMag's Jamie Lendino wrote a hands-on report on an alpha version of the app, and she noted the app played streams "with reasonable smoothness over a weak 3-G signal and near 30 fps animation over Wi-Fi."

However, Wired.com thinks SlingPlayer will appear in the App Store for a few reasons. First, Sling is a very high-profile, popular service whose plans for an iPhone app have been well-documented; a flat rejection would cause an uproar. Second, Sling tells Wired.com it has a good, communicative relationship with Apple, and we trust Apple will not break that relationship. Third, Apple already announced it's optimizing live streaming in the upcoming iPhone 3.0 OS — a Major League Baseball app using this improved streaming support is already in the works, although it remains unconfirmed whether this will only work with Wi-Fi.

Therefore, if Apple does reject SlingPlayer, we believe Apple will give Sling instructions on modifications it would like to see — most likely Apple would ask Sling to make its app work only with Wi-Fi and to disable the cellular network support.

Looks like OrbLive is still the winnah!

Anyone know of an app for tracking the upcoming NFL Draft?!?!?!
I just bought Mock Draft which is on sale for $1.99.Seems pretty neat so far. Hopefully it does a good job with the live draft tracker.I like how easy it is to bring up an overall or positional ranking list and open up a page on a player with their info and often a highlight reel.

I've had mine since late last year I think. Mostly recreational use.

Games

idracula

LightBike (think Tron)

Defend!

FallingBalls

CubeRunner

Fieldrunners

Shufflepuck

iFart

TanZen

Flick Fishing

Sports Apps

Sportacular

Utah Crazy (but they have this for any pro team and several college)

View Ti Golf (GPS for golfing plus scorecard which keeps track of stats)

Utilities

Speed Dial 1 and 2

Grocery IQ (grocery list)

Shazam

I'm assuming if there was a new phone coming out in a month, we would be seeing ads for it. :porked:
NopeApple doesn't advertise for a product until it's available to buy.
It kinda makes sense, otherwise if they advertise too early they kill off any sales of their existing product line since people will just wait for the latest and greatest.

just pre ordered the N97... i have a first gen iphone now.. gadget freek I am, not sure what I'll do with the N97, as I plan on getting the new iphone too...

was a nice price under 500, unlocked and shipped to my door, sometime in june.. maybe ebay..

I wonder how much more they can do to the iphone to make it any better? I absolutely love my 3G and it seems like the 3.0 update will fill all the holes that I sometimes feel it has.

I want to buy an Iphone in the next week or two. Should I wait until the update in mid-June or will I just be able to download the patch?

Buy it now, and update. The only thing worth waiting for would be if you wanted a new model. Considering it hasn't even been announced yet it could be a while.

Ok, thanks. I wasn't sure if it was just a new operating system or new phone coming out. I'm sure the new model would be more money and from what I've heard the current one is great. Thanks, guess I'll have to search through all of these posts for some of the best apps in the coming weeks

I'm waiting for the new model, especially if it is coming out this summer. What's a few more weeks/months versus buying a product already obsolete?

Wait for the new model to come out and then I bet you could get a good price break on an existing iphone. You might even be able to pick one up *real* cheap on craigslist from someone upgrading to the latest and greatest.

Wunder Radio is an awesome app. It allows you to stream radio broadcasts from around the world. I got it mainly to listen to WEEI (sports talk) and WTKK (politics/current events) here in Boston. Since I can't stream on my pc at work, this allows me to listen to my favorite talk radio stations at my desk. It's also handy when doing yardwork, etc. I no longer have to drag out a radio, extension cord, etc.
$6.99 while Pandora is free. :lmao:

Slacker is a pretty good app if you want to listen to music. You probably won't find any new bands using it like you would on Pandora, but sometimes I just want to hear what I know, not what I 'should' like.

Sling released but works only over Wifi which has the geek squad angry - its also pricey - think I read $29. How does Sling work? Do I just download the app and can watch TV on my Iphone over my Wifi without any other purchases? That may be worth it as is....

Also read Jobs will not be at the June meeting - Post speculating they may hold back new iphone as a result but I dont believe that!

That sucks! For $30 you would think they would give you more than just Wifi. I will keep enjoying my OrbLive as I do not own a slingbox and enjoy streaming media anywhere.

Bummed about the sling news. I dont have access to wifi all the time. Was really hoping for more. Not even going to buy it.

Also think I have a slingbox that is one that wont work. Pretty sure I said that already. I may be eligible for an upgrade and 50 bucks off but still wont get it because of the wifi thing

ATT nixed the 3G functionality, claiming it would put big a strain on the network.

I guess I should thank ATT for allowing me all the bandwidth I need then by limiting Slingbox access. Still, $30 is way steep for an app apparently Apple has been blocking for a year or so.

Agreed. Disappointed, but with a DVR on my computer and OrbLive, I pretty much have a Sling on my iPhone anyway.

Any idea if there is a chance that the new iphone may come in a flip-style configuration, or with a foldout style screen? My contract with Verizon is up in June and I have always had flip phones. I have an ipod Touch, but don't like carrying it around with the screen constantly exposed. My wife wants a Blackberry for work, which could be Verizon or AT&T, but i've been thinking of an iphone for myself. The Blackberry store has so little compared to Apple, and is a real attraction for me.

I was doubt it especially since flip style phones are no longer in.

There's carrying cases that have a flip-over piece to help protect your screen in your pocket, purse, etc. That might help you out.

What is the general consesus between refurb v. new iphone?
My wife and I each have iphones , one was new and the other was a refurb. No difference but what AT&T doesn't tell you is that the Apple warranty runs from the original purchase date of the phone , not yours.

I just bought the 3G and have a question regarding mail. I set up my gmail account on the phone and how whenever I click the "mail" icon it automatically brings me into my account. Is there a way to logout so when I click the mail icon I'm prompted to enter my password?

Why on earth would you want to create more work for yourself? Is this a public phone?

Why not just login through safari in that case?

What is the latest version of the Iphone, and have people already jail broken them for use with T-mobile service?

I really want to cop an Iphone, but im not interested in changing services to AT&T.

Any rumors on when 3.0 will be released? Assuming there is a new iPhone on the way I'm sure we'll have to wait until Mid-July which would totally suck.

the pattern established last year, was new software at the WWDC, which is June 8th this year.... then 3 tp 4 weeks for new hardware.....rumors have been July 17th for the new hardware

I think it's still the 3G, but I've heard the 4G is on its way (no idea when).I don't blame you - AT&T sucks. I switched over from Verizon, and the service is far inferior.

I read the 4G iPhone (not sure if it is real 4G if it is 3.5/3.75G) will be available on Verizon. AT&T has a contract with Apple thru 2010 on the 3G iPhone, but by offering a 4G version Verizon can sell it since Apple is not bound by the AT&T contract terms.

ok guys I realize there is already 45 pages about the Iphone. I scanned threw the first few to find my answer but could not. Can someone PLEASE tell me how to delete an app I downloaded...I downloaded it 2 days ago and today there was an update and it said I have to delete the original and redo it....

TIA
