The Apple iPhone Thread (1 Viewer)

I just DL'd the new Masters App. :D

Live coverage, highlights, leaderboard. I'm in awe that I'm watching/listening to the Masters on my phone right now at work. Mainly, b/c I can't get it on my computer without an upgrade.

I heard the new iPhone is going to have quite a few upgrades from the 3G, the main being faster wi-fi & 3G. They haven't offcially announced it, but people are assuming it will be the same as the iPod Touch details that have been coming out. Either way, I am probably going to head to the AT&T store by my house to get in line sometime today.
Do you have more details on this?

:( bumpwhat means this?

When does their contract with AT&T run out again?
I don't think the terms of the exclusivity agreement between ATT and Apple have ever been publicly disclosed, but it's widely believed that it runs until 2012.
It runs until 2010. AT&T is pushing to extend it until 2011.http://www.appleinsider.com/articles/09/04...rough_2011.html
Don't do it Apple. I want an iPhone on the Verizon network.

So...the contract runs *through* 2010 or until 2010?

And, let's say it ends 1/1/2010, how long until VZW, etc, have this? I've read that Apple has had ads for people who know CDMA type phones, etc. Anyone know any details here?

 You'd really think Apple would as well. I can't imagine that extending with AT&T is a positive move.

From VZW they get: much better service, a service that has almost no competing phones (yes, they all blow), and a lot of people on that service that didn't switch to AT&T that want the iPhone that would then buy the iPhone.

So I had my phone on my lap and forgot, I stood up and kicked it right across the floor.

Thankfully there wasn't much damage, some minor scratches on the surface, but it is annoying.

Thinking of picking up iDrop to see if I can fix it, but I have a warranty...

I know that this isn't covered...anyone have any good ideas of what is covered so maybe I can 'fake' it to get a new phone?

look for a bubble under the glass in the screen...as to continuing the ATT agreement.. i would guess APPL would love to.... but there will stipulations, equity position, access to various technologies, and the so on...apple wanted to stand their own wireless up a while back, didn't they.. right after google back off the frequency bidding? with Iphone, Itunes, Apple TV, laptops, and desktops, and mobile me.. the only piece missing, linking them all is a wireless backbone...then your digital identity resides across all these platforms, and can even be accessed via public kiosks, or HW you don't physical own... next step is constant hardware upgrades, cause your profile and SW are on the WEB....

I had plenty of replacement iPhones...when it first came out I picked one up, Day 2 it froze and was not responsive to being re-started or any of the Genius fixes.Since then I had issues with Safari and got a replacement phone due to bad firmware...These reasons are more what I'm looking for, can I just bring the phone in and say it's freezing up on me, I've restarted it twice blah blah I want a new one?Should I say the battery is running out in a few hours? But will that just get me a new battery or a new phone?Anyone ever use iDrops btw? I heard they actually work, but I am suspicious...only 15 bucks but still.

verizon has terrible customer service, and it took a change in law to stop them from making you enter a new contract with every change you wanted to make. I remember I wanted to up our text number on one phone because my son started to hit the texting age, they wanted me to re-up for 2 years to add more texts. :lmao: I just laughed and told them I couldn't wait for my contract to end.

 The wife is wanting us to upgrade to a pair of iPhones. What's the scouting report on using an iPhone for fantasy sports?
meh.. I only view this site, in the Lofi version.. all the banner stuff clogs up my first gen iphone...MFL . com.. don't like the mobile pages... but the full html is serviceable...thats my limit.. uses gooogle reader on the pc and iphone for my fantasy RSS feeds.. very good.espn is nice on the phone...that's about my exposure related to FF

I love iPhone OS 3. Don't even really need to jailbreak anymore.
yeah usability of various apps how does 3.0 address this that Jailbreak used to, and 2.0 didn't??
Huh?Jailbreaking just allows you to install unofficial 3rd party apps, of which there are tons. From video-streaming-from-your-phone apps, to running a web server, to customizing the UI, nintendo/genesis emulators, etc. What I used it for was the tethering apps, there were 3 or 4 of them. But 3.0 has the tethering built-in, and it's a lot better than any of the 3rd party ones that I've used. That was the main reason I would jailbreak my phone but I probably won't bother with 3.0.

Okay, gonna start getting into some APPS. Just downloaded Spend Lite because of the recs here. Should I just pay for the regular one now (.99), or what?

If anyone wants to recommend any others, please do. No games please; just not interested.

I can't believe you all do as much as you do on your phones. When I try to browse the web (google homepage mostly), it just is not fast enough, and the font is too small (partly my eyes), to make it enjoyable. That prevents me, I think, from utilizing my phone more. Maybe that will change...

Rumors are that in June Apple will announce the new iPhone. Among the things rumored are 4G, wi-fi, 32 GB, video camera and video editing, 3mp (iPhone Junior) and 5mp version (iPhone Pro) still camera, FM transmitter to play songs wirelessly through your radio.Again, those are all rumors, nothing is confirmed. It's based on things like Apple buying millions of RAM from China, looking into the 3.0 firmware update code for features it supports that are not on current iPhones and the fact that June is when Apple released the first iPhone.

If the sling rumor is true, I am bummed. Not only did my wife buy me sling and iphone so I can watch it on the phone but now I have to tell her that the 1st gen phone will not play sling and the sling itself wont play on it even if I had a new phone.

:bummedout:

you answered the question.. which was intended to be what functionality does 3.0 or jailbreaking give you that 2.0 didn't - tethering..the rest my thoughts being pushed through slow fingers.. sorry

you know you can take your fingers, put them on the screen and pull apart in order to make the font bigger. I'm always on the web on my phone and half the time I post here I'm on my phone. Zooming is a must

Mexican

You know you can just double tap the screen and it increases the size. You dont need to drag your fingers

My new favorite app: Pocket TunesLets you listen to Sirius Radio.
do you have to already have a sirius account?
Yes- it logs into the sirius player webapp just like logging into sirius.com.
Its 10 bucks right? Isnt Serius coming out with their own. Will they allow this to keep working after theirs comes out. I just got serius and love it
That's what they've said, but they still have no set date for availability. I guess if you have an app like pandora radio and can wait for sirius/xm feeds on your iphone, there's no real benefit to this...but after fighting for so long to get their media player to stream to a linux desktop, I found this to be a decent app in the meantime.

I bought MLB's At Bat , well worth the $ and the free app from fanball

If you ever want to transfer music from your iphone to another PC (different from the original PC with iTunes on it) this is the program you want to use here. It sounds easy to do but its not. This program is free. It took me forever to find a free program that would do this, I share it with the FFA.

My contract runs out when the new iPhone should be coming out this summer and I can't wait to upgrade.. I am currently running the 3.0 OS on my first gen iPhone without problem and must say that the new features are great. I don't know what took them so long for cut/paste and mms though..

Wunder Radio is an awesome app. It allows you to stream radio broadcasts from around the world. I got it mainly to listen to WEEI (sports talk) and WTKK (politics/current events) here in Boston. Since I can't stream on my pc at work, this allows me to listen to my favorite talk radio stations at my desk. It's also handy when doing yardwork, etc. I no longer have to drag out a radio, extension cord, etc.

Am I reading these posts correctly when you say that 3.0 is now available for download. I thought it didnt come out til this summer

Lastly, I have a 1st gen phone. Is anyone losing battery life easy these days. I used to be able to get 2 full days on one charge. Now I barely make it the morning without it draining half and then by night it is shot.

Have had it for a few months. The number of stations is unbelievable. Very nice app IMO.

3.0 is only available if you have a spot on an iPhone developer account and it is now beta 3. Not officially released until June? I have the 1st gen too and of course MMS and other 3.0 functions will not work unless you have 3G version or the new iPhone hopefully coming out in June or July.Battery charge depends entirely on what I am doing. If I am surfing via my wifi connection then it drains quickly. I charge my phone every night so it hasn't been a problem. I honestly don't think I have ever made it 2 days.

I've been using "Lose It!" a lot, really like how it tracks your diet. It really starts to make you aware of portion sizes and everything.

It's probably common knowledge to everybody but I just recently found out how to make a ringtone out of any MP3 I own for free, so great!

Anyone know of an app for tracking the upcoming NFL Draft?!?!?!

I didnt realize that the 3.0 would not work on 1st gen phones. Its stuff like this that upsets me when dealing with apple. Same thing with my latest ipod. I spent over 200 bucks to have a radio installed in my car to charge and play my ipod (my choice, apple didnt make me do it) but then I buy a new ipod and the cahrge feature is not supported because they changed from firewire to USB. Its just frustrating. But I feel like the godfather. Once I feel like Im done with them, they pull me back in.Anyone know what happens if your 1st gen phone dies. Can you get a replacement. Like I said, I really dont want to pay the extra 10 bucks a monthBuckna,Lost 25 pounds since February 23rd on Lose it. Its great

3.0 does work on 1st gen, but certain functions like MMS and tethering will not due to hardware limitations I believe.

i have also read that ATT is pulling back on the support and throughput on the 1st gen phones 2.5G technology.. not as good coverage..they be pinching you into an upgrade..at current pricing I believe the 3G plan is about $15 a month more per phone, than the first gen... wonder how much that shifts this July...

So how can I try the beta version of 3.0???
Assuming you aren't going to get a developer account, there are two ways:1)

- Download iphone OS 3.0 latest beta from a torrent site

- get your number listed on a developer account (so it can be activated). It costed me $5 on ebay and took about 2 minutes.

2)

- Download iphone OS 3.0 latest beta from a torrent site

- jailbreak the phone and use IUtilities to activate using an older firmware.

#2 does work but will take quite awhile and you have to jailbreak your phone which most people would rather not do. Unless your time is very cheap, just pay someone on ebay to put you on their account. PM me if you want the username of the guy who set me up.
