They did a deal on the rights with Fox and as long as Fox keeps making X-Men movies they keep the rights. Same thing with Spidey which is why we are getting this ridiculous reboot of that series.

Spiderman was probably my favorite super hero growing up. I was very excited when it hit the big screen and I to this day love the first spiderman film. I liked the second. I loathed the third. I refuse to see this new reboot. Why do we need the origin story again? The only possible good thing is that Peter Parker invents the webthrower, but still, this reboot is ridiculous.

No offense intended but this post sounds a little selfish. You mention growing up, and how he was your favorite superhero. Thats cool and all, but what about kids growing up right now? Sure they could see the ones you saw, but technology in movie making is advancing so fast that the effects in movies are better each and every year. Kids just coming into their own regarding comics will like it. And you might too if you would have an open mind about it.

They are dramatically changing canon. If they want a new hero they should go for it. Plenty around. You can update the retelling of the Spider-Man story without changing canon.

I don't know much about this new Spidey movie, so what part of his story are they changing?

Allegedly the main plot point is that he was genetically engineered by his parents to become Spider-Man. And his parents are of course not dead they are in hiding or some such. It's way out in left field. Supposedly even Sony hates it but they have to make a movie or lose the rights.

In the comics they did revisit their story to make them spies. Are they going that route? Anyway, I wasn't a fan of that storyline. It's better to leave pre-Spiderman Peter Parker as boring and normal as possible.Why would they even go the tampering route since they already did that in Ang Lee's Hulk. Lame.

No not active any more. I did read several Spidey titles but the newer ones I don't have much experience with. I did kind of concentrate my comic reading on Spidey and X-Men though so it made it easier to keep up. Been a long time since I read any of them.

The Amazing Spiderman has been around for almost 50 years, with a ton of authors and 650+ issues. With that much times and content and changing point of views with various artists and writers, you are always going to have change.Comics tend to reflect current events. Over 50 years events change which cause story lines and points of view to change with the times.

Stupid retcon of the fallout from Civil War, another stupid arc where Marvel ruined a lot of their comics. What DC did, and more specifically Morrison, did to Batman during the 52 arc and the aftermath with Bruce dying and then all the nonsense after he came back is just as bad. I really hate when Marvel and DC do this type of thing to shake things up. It almost always comes down to a universe wide retcon of changes that were made.

The TV series was pretty bad, but not radically awful compared to other series around that time (Shazam comes to mind). The Batman movie though was so awful that it's tough to fathom that half of the bits weren't tongue-in-cheek.

The real ending is that they figured out that they could close the portal using the staff to break through the shields of the tesserack cube. Once that portal is closed the Avengers wouldn't have had any problems wiping out the remainder of the aliens who had made it through already. No one needed to see more alien bashing after an already long battle scene. Having a few moments of peace and quiet where they could crack a few jokes made for a better ending.

The Avengers, based on Loki as a villain, exploiting the Tesseract [spelling?] or whatever it is, to unleash villains from outerspace via the Tesseract/wormhole was unnecessarily silly. In other words, the source of evil/villains could've been more simply done and still resulted in a cool story/movie.

Well the Gauntlet seems to be in Asgard right now. We do have a Thor 2 coming so maybe they will continue to tie plot lines in and then resolve them in the Avengers.

We haven't really revealed anything here beyond basic foundational plot points that you can get from the trailer. And then trashed them.

Finally saw this. Wasn't that impressed. I mean it's a good movie but I was expecting much more based on the buzz.

Was expecting to see the greatest superhero movie by miles and just saw one of the better ones. They did Hulk right though.
