Freds mention of Art Shell having a good winning percentage made me think of a tangent.

If the best coach currently coaching in the NFL (whoever that is in your opinion) had taken on the Raider job instead of Shell, how many more wins would the Raiders have had in 2006?

****= games won, with the best coach.

I would have given the 7 wins.

They still would have had very bad O-line issues, but I think that could have been hid by better play selection and better QB coaching.

You have to adapt to not let your biggest weakness be the downfall of your games and season. Good coaches do that.

Moss is still one of the best weapons in the NFL, find a way to utilize him.

Make him WANT to play, I know he may be a headcase, but the only way to get players like that to preform, is to not lose them.

Shell and the coaches lost Moss. So Moss didn't give a crap.

Design plays just for him, let him return punts, anything to keep him motivated. He gives your O a fighting chance.

Their pass D was good, but I didn't watch enough games to see if that was a result of them being down early and often, that teams would just run the clock, and take 5-8 minute drives.

Their D did seem like it had some very good potential though and the one bright spot of that team.

I voted 6. I think they had the talent to be a .500 team. The defense kept them in games all year, they just needed a little more from the offense to be competitive.

I think the best coach in the league gets Randy Moss' head out of his a% and takes the team to several more wins. I picked 4 for the record.

I picked 5. I think Belichek could have taken this team to 8-8. I am assuming we mean this teams talent with proper time to understand the system. Not sure if he could do it overnight.

Hi hb,I mean it pretty much as if what would have happened if Belichick had been put in the exact same situation as Shell was with Al Davis and players and time and everything.I guess I asked this honeslty as I'm not sure how much even a Belichick could have done with that situation.J

Well, Belichick has been a head coach for two teams to date. In his first season with the Browns, they went from 3-13 before he arrived to 6-10 in his firstyear. In New England, few people remember that the Pats were 8-8 under Pete Carroll but fell to 5-11 with Belichick. I personally don't see how the Raiders could have gotten 8 wins under any coach this past season.

Good question...I think in the same situation Belichick could have gotten the 2006 Raiders to 6-10.

I voted 4 more wins. Basically I figure, even with the putrid offense they displayed, there were 6 very winable games that they lost.

1. Browns at home (led at halftime and scored 0 points in the second half).

2. at SF. See above.

3. Broncos. scored the first 3 points to go up 3-0 and failed to score again.

4. at SD. Another game they actually were in great position to win, until the 4th quarter.

5. Texas...held the Texans to negative yardage and lost. Enough said.

6. at Broncos...a shoulda woulda game

Considering that a coach like BB wouldn't allow the same type of issues Moss and Porter brought to the team (this is just the tip of the ice berg, but a very significant part IMO). I believe BB could have pulled out 4 of those 6 games, without much of a problem.

Despite talent or anything else... this question is moot as once a team starts winning, you never know where they may wind up. However, with this team I believe the top end would be as BlackHole stated.

I think the raiders are fairly talented and although I know these stats dont always mean that much, but the Raiders were 3rd in overall defense. Were they the third best? Hell no, but they at least have to be considered top half. Throw in some of the playmakers they have available I think they could have been .500I dont think Belichek was anywhere near the coach he is now back in the cleveland days and early NE days. I think he has learned a lot from a lot of great assistants and really has no fear. I don't like him one bit, but the man can flat out coach.

on a side note, I really dont think it is fair to look at each game played by the raiders and say they would have won this or that. Everything would have been different. The players drafted, etc etc.
