The CHAZ Thread (1 Viewer)

“I have many friends in Seattle and all of them agree that this story is blown way out of proportion. It's a peaceful protest agreed upon by the city and the neighborhood occupying a very small section of a very large city. Please turn off Fox News and stop listening to their insane lies.“

I said pages back if they keep all the homeless down there with them they can have all of Capitol hill. I recommend a border fence with razor wire too.  Of course they wouldnt last long, would they.
Sounds like you want it to turn into a concentration camp.

Friends or a friend of a friend.

I live here.

King 5 News lead story tonight: Residents of Capitol Hill tired of it and speaking out.

News reporter asked CHAZ chopper spokeswoman "What do you say to the neighborhood that is tired of the noise and fearfull of walking around at night. Response: If they feel that way I can imagine how they feel about police murdering black people.

Actually that is what you said, but spin how you need to.
No, it wasn’t.  I said, if they wanted to, they could always “beg the racist warrior cops” to come back.  That is not a qualitative statement about every single policeman in the world.  Not sure why we still have to act like police officers are the real victims here, but that’s not what it meant.

Deep breaths? I live and work in the burbs, this doesnt affect me at all.  I'll pass along your messages to the residents and businesses owners in that area though, that it's no big deal. I'm sure they're just overreacting.

Pretending this is just a couple bad actors is ignorance at its finest.  Got to hand it to you though, the rest of your comrades in here have dropped defending this #### show like a hot potato.
Yeah it would suck to live there and yes I think it’s mishandled. It’s just prolonging the negative part of the protests. Not sure what the end game is here for the mayor.

This is a city of hundreds of thousands of people. How many people do you think are causing ####? A few hundred.

It is a qualitative statement for the Seattle police, and by extension why wouldn't it be every other department.  What makes Seattle so much different?  Your backup alarm is beeping.

My brother lives there.  Weird how he disagrees so strongly.

Haven't watched FOX news in years.

It is a few hundred during the day, and as my brother described it - becomes hundreds more at night.

Of course this was last weekend.. they gotta run out of steam sooner or later right?

Does CHAZ/CHOP whatever the #### they are calling it now leave before the city finds the courage to take action?

Does he live in Cap Hill?

To the bolded I think the Mayor certainly hopes so.

My cousin owns a house there on Mercer.. I think she said she is east of it.

Brother in Laurelhurst/Windermere up by UW.  He has gone down to check it out couple times.

I may have over stepped in my comment as I personally don't know of any businesses closed in Chaz.  I can't imagine much open, but don't really know.
Thanks. I live pretty near here and am honestly not too sure myself.

Those blocks are mostly bars and restaurants and many were not open due to COVID restrictions. Some are definitely boarded up, others were running as they were before the CHAZ thing started.

Our County is slowly loosening those restrictions although I'm sure it's a huge struggle up there to operate under even the loosened restrictions since it's super high rent area.

Huge issue that really would suck for people that live in that area dealing with this. I'm sure most are generally supportive of the vague concepts that CHAZ people want - that area is very progressive, liberal etc - but having the carnival in your street 24/7 is a whole other thing.

Cool. I'm in the area. Fairly close to your bro. You are right on Mercer, it's an Island east and south of this CHAZ thing. Very nice area and very isolated from downtown. Super nice area (as is Laurelhurst/Windermere).

I'm fairly certain they are both like me in that if they didn't go to check it out / watch the news they would have no clue this was happening. It is contained to a few blocks in a part of one neighborhood that is next to downtown. You could honestly be a with a 10 minute walk and have no clue.

Yea he went down to see it... certainly he described the same regarding not noticing it otherwise.  But once there he apparently saw people being complete morons.

One visit during the day not so many people, one day after work (evening), tons of people, more rowdy.

Went to college in Spokane(Gonzaga) so very familiar with Seattle as we used to drive over on weekends & party.  was there two years ago for a wedding & surprised at the mind numbing traffic jams & lots of garbage & litter along roadsides.

Traffic is bad, too many lakes, too many people, not enough room. Not sure which freeway you were on but homeless set up camp along the freeways and aren't the tidiest. I'm guessing that's what you were seeing.

If you partied in Seattle (although that's a haul form Spokane) I'm guessing you know exactly where the CHAZ is as there were a bunch of dive bars there depending on how long ago this was.

Many of those dive bars have changed into hipster bars and the Trendy food of the day type places over past 20 years.

Well, there was at least one that was set on fire and the fire co couldn’t come because they had no police escort so I assume at least that one
That was auto shop company I believe. Think they were closed at the time when someone broke in because it was night time.

I don't think there is any unified message out of this thing which is the problem.
I saw a list of demands floating in this thread I think......so what ur saying is they lack unified leadership?  After an emotional takeover of part of a liberal city?  No way!!

Yes. That would be my main issue with this. I don't see the endgame from either side. It impacts my life in zero way though and I live relatively close this area.

Yet.  Their demands have to do with the whole city, not just their little block party.
I'll let them sort this out as they don't mess with me and I don't mess with them. There is some stuff I would like to see different.

I'm confident that any changes that come out of this will have almost no bearing on my life.

Hopefully the SPD will be able to show up to your house if you ever need them.

Reportedly was a man who arrived in a black SUV, came out with a rifle and shot the two people, then left. Wouldn't be shocked if it ended up being some right-wing wacko convinced he was striking back at antifa.

A bit pointless to make that guess.
Agree to disagree, given the hyper propaganda machine the right wing media has been running about this place.

There you go. 19 year old shot, police cant get to him because of the protesters. Dies before the makeshift Chaz first responders can get him to the hospital.

You sure you dont want police and fire rescue? 1st class idiots.
