I have these brown shoes. I wear them with any color suit.Don't know if this has been covered before.
Thoughts on brown shoes with a navy blue suit? It's a nicely tailored, slim-cut 2-button, smallish lapel suit. I think this is the exact suit.
I'm looking for a leather soled shoe or ankle boot that would work well for weddings, job interviews, and other semi-formal evening events.
Should I go brown? Stick to black? Lace-up oxford or ankle boot? I'd prefer to stick to under $150 is possible. $200 absolute max here.
Suggestions from the style gurus please.
def stick to black...if you're going brown, only a really dark brown (color no lighter than this...Endless.com is a great site for shoes at a discount (check their clearance section). It's affiliated with Zappos/Amazon. Got this pair for a great discountDon't know if this has been covered before.

Lace up oxford or ankle are both good choices....just make sure you don't go squared toe.so 5 years ago.
Z, check out the back and forth conversation on the color topic starting at post #2318.Agree with Major, just stay away from square toed shoes whatever you end up getting.Don't know if this has been covered before.

I gave up pimpin' when I got married...
I dunno. I think that brown shoes, even lighter brown can work well. I've seen Europeans pull it off and look really dapper, particularly well dressed Italian or Swiss guys. I'm just not sure if I can do it here in the states. So no thoughts on ankle boots vs. oxfords? I'm not a hug fan of cap-toe, but those Cole Haan ones that Major linked looked like a quality pair.It is OK to wear black shoes with navy blue pants, but don't wear brown shoes with navy blue pants (in a perfect world, wear cordovan colored shoes with navy pants.....in my world, I just avoid navy blue pants/suits altogether)
not sure about quality, but the style/color of the last pair = flexibility. I have a few variations that work well with both navy and grey suits.Ted Baker Hake - $155 (I've always loved Ted Baker's stuff, BTW).
Hugo Boss Claude - $195
Kenneth Cole Web Mail (ankle boot) - $140
Florsheim Hugo - $128
Kenneth Cole First Arrival $103.50
Brass Boot Sanborn - $130
rappers have been doing this for yearsSo are any of you style whores doing the whole tuck-the-slim-fit-jeans/pants-into-the-boot thing? Seems to be in-trend here in NYC since fall. Not a fan.
noticed this trend start about 5 years ago with the cool high top sneaks. Guess it's a natural transgression. I just think it looks sloppy and makes most people look short/stocky. Not a good look unless you're tall and in shape and even then it's very questionable. If you don't have a pair of $ black shoes, don't mess with this dookie brown stuff. If you're looking to diversify your bonds, then go brown. Unless your name is Giuseppe, I don't recommend going with the light brown shoe/dark suit thing. The Z Machine said:I dunno. Yes, I'm trying to get you to do my research for me...
I'll post some links to shoes that I like and you guys can critique.

I hear ya- but I think the "urban" high-top thing with the skinny-ish jeans naturally falling into the high-tops or timberlands is different than what I'm talking about (that had kind of an 80s throwback thing, if we're talking about the same trend). I'm talking boots, but similar type of pant- just not hanging down over the drawers. And on skinny legged white dudes. Almost like Jud in Breakfast Club, but more fashionable get-ups. I hear you in terms of it looking sloppy- this trend isn't so sloppy, just looks like they're trying too hard (ala popping the collar). That's, like, my opinion man. I'll try and snap a shot if I see one right now.rappers have been doing this for yearsSo are any of you style whores doing the whole tuck-the-slim-fit-jeans/pants-into-the-boot thing?

After my recent toe surgery they have the only dress shoes that I will wear. Very comfortable.Always been a big fan of Johnston and Murphy

If you were saying that I had to pick out of this lot to wear on my feet while wearing a navy blue suit I'd go with the Kenneth Cole Web Mail ankle boot or the Hugo Boss Claude. In terms of deciding between the ankle boot or regular cut look....I guess I'd say I'd lean more towards ankle boot if I planned to wear this suit more in party/event/outing events. The Z Machine said:Ted Baker Hake - $155 (I've always loved Ted Baker's stuff, BTW).

I'm not a fan of skinny jeans so I'm trying out another look for the Fall/Winter. That's pretty much it. Except the dudes don't look like such #####. And at least in the LES EVil, it's not a blazer- it's... hmmm... hard to describe... but 3/4 length unstructured, kinda military, but more fitted. How can this not be :style:?http://www.magnificentbastard.com/images/p...ucked-boots.jpgSo are any of you style whores doing the whole tuck-the-slim-fit-jeans/pants-into-the-boot thing?

My nice, black dress shoes have seen better days at this point. They're scuffed and have already had the soles re-done once. I do have some nice patent leather ones, but those can only be used on special occasions. BTW, since I now own a tux, why is it I never get a chance to use it??Anyway, I only own two suits that fit me and look fashionable enough to wear. A medium gray with fine pinstripes (bought in Europe when I lived there) and the navy suit I linked to earlier. If I'm going to get a new dress shoe, I'd like it to work with both of them.If you don't have a pair of $ black shoes, don't mess with this dookie brown stuff.
