THE FBG Fashion Thread :style: (2 Viewers)

I decided a little while ago to go 'back in black' in a sense regarding my wardrobe. Basically, for the past several years I've been buying the basic brown shoes, brown belt, rootbeer sunglasses. I don't have 'black' accessories. I have a couple pairs of black shoes and I never wear them. I started out and got a new pair of rockport black slip on dress shoes... the pineville. Yeah yeah, I know, they are slip ons, they are not 'real' dress shoes. I fly a lot for work, and I don't care how you feel about slip ons.

Then I was inspired by the fishing show Charlie Moore No Offense. I kept seeing him with these big black Bolle sunglasses. I did some research and got these... Bolle Marine Cobra Polarized. I like to fish so these are good for that too.

This brings me to the last topic, which is really the inspiration for this post. Recently, I went to the driving range after not having hit a golf ball in years. I put my old golf shoes on and they felt really small. I think my feet have just gotten fat from gaining weight. I needed new golf shoes. In conjunction with this, I thought about my new 'back in black' set up I have going on. I also needed some black 'casual' shoes to wear on the weekend. I wondered if there was any way I could combine these footwear needs, and get a 2 into 1 deal.

I thought about the ECCO shoes Fred Couples was wearing with the bright orange soles. I think they are cool, but they are running $130 plus. I don't plan on wearing them that often. I thought about the old nike 'turf shoes' I use to wear back in the 80's (I think). They were general football and baseball shoes, with a rubber turf gripping bottom. I thought they would do just as good at gripping as the ECCO shoes.

I started looking around for turf shoes, and they were more difficult to find then I expected. I found some New Balance turf shoes in black that looked ok. Most of the others were baseball or football shoes and looked bulky. I decided to go to my local Sports Authority to see what I could see. And that is where I came across them. The perfect combination of black casual running type shoe, and 'turf' golf shoe. They are the Adidas Kanadia Tr3.

I looked at the sole, and since it is for trail running, it has rubber nubs on it for 'outdoor traction'... kind of like what you need when you are playing golf. To me, these look like they provide as much traction as the ECCO's. And, they can be worn with jeans or shorts and look like trail running shoes.

So, if you are looking to save some money, and combine two pair of shoes, go with the adidas trail runners for your golf, casual, and yes even trail running if your into that... needs.

I just thought of another advantage that makes this whole plan even more genius. You DON'T have to change your shoes at the golf course!!!

I am looking some recommendations for business clothing. I am basically starting from scratch and trying to create a reasonable work wardrobe that will be able to last. Dress is mostly business causal with a decent amount of business professional.

Budget: $1000-$1200

What I have:

Decent pair of shoes – nothing special. Perhaps an upgrade would be an order if I have the funds.

Nice pair of suit pants – the jacket is falling apart (you get what you pay for it appears)

What I need:

Dress shirts: How many? Plain vs. Patterned? Brooks Brothers, Charles Tyrwhitt (4 for 100 right now)? I love the idea of non-iron.

Suit: Perhaps something like this – I think I can get away with one for awhile: Amazon – I saw this mentioned on here earlier. Would have to get it tailored, but looks like a good deal.

Pants: How many? Clueless here – any good recommendations? All I know is khaki is no good.

Ties: How many? Have a couple, but nothing special – what should I be looking for? I am taller (6’6”) so it would be nice to get some longer ones, don’t know if they even sell them.

What am I missing? Any help would be appreciated. Figure I might as well start off with some decent stuff that won’t be destroyed immediately and will last me awhile.

TIA

Are you typically able to buy other clothes (jeans etc) off the rack in traditional stores or do you have to go to Big n Tall?

I think with this budget, you might get a t-shirt and pair of sunglasses.

Can we get a FBG membership verification, ASAP. At 6'6" buying clothes will be difficult (I am 6'5"). Are you skinny or what?

what kinda work? office? sales? exec?

Office - Accounting internship, will most likely be working for this company when I graduate as well.

Are you typically able to buy other clothes (jeans etc) off the rack in traditional stores or do you have to go to Big n Tall?

Can get shirts off the rack but have a more difficult time with pants - have found the 'big n tall' skews more toward big - so I usually just end up ordering jeans online with an added inch or two of length.

I think with this budget, you might get a t-shirt and pair of sunglasses.

:lmao:

At 6'6" buying clothes will be difficult (I am 6'5"). Are you skinny or what?

Not 'skinny' per se but not fat. Weighing right around 225 right now. If I got rid of the Ireland beer belly my ideal weight is around 215.

On that budget you are better off keeping it simple and interchangable. Then add items that are patterned as you go along.

Do you own the second one? I "moldable wire" brim intrigues me. I'm afraid to destroy the brim on one of these by throwing it into a suitcase (and I don't think I am concerned enough (or nearly gay enough) to buy a special box to carry a hat in).

I have the first one I linked, not the second...

These are nice hats and I wouldn't crush it in a suitcase if I were you. There are ways to save the hat without getting a hat case though :lmao:

Wonder if one of my kids could be trusted to wear it through the airport for me. I don't want to be that guy.

Seriously, I don't hate the wilked hat suggestions for beach wear ONLY. If I caught you wearing one of the fall/winter collections from that site, I'd drive up to the Garden State and kick your ###.

Just wear the damn thing on your head during the flight.
And what do you expect me to do with my "I'm on an Airplane" hat?

Beach only GB. Not even in the airport. You can trust me on that.

For suits, you can always find a good deal. Men's Wearhouse is having buy one get one right now (and they seem to every couple of months). No one is going to go give you a job solely based on a $500 suit, but getting two suits for essentially $250 isn't bad. They also tailor it for you which is huge. With something like this, you won't look terrible. You're young, no one expects you to walk in wearing a $2,000 suit. This website will give you a lot of other recommendations.
