Alright... you guys helped me pick out a dress for a wedding last year so I figure I'll throw this one your way too. This is just a dress for fun (probably wear it mostly in fall and winter with tights).

I'm stuck between getting it in black or beige (not interested in the leapord print). I like how the details like the buttons stand out more with the beige but black is generally slightly more flattering skin tone wise for me (some beiges have a nice sophisticated effect, some tend toward washing me out, it's a gamble).

Cheap, fun dress

eta: scroll down for pics
Order both dresses, try them on and post pics....we'll decide which one looks better (via a pole) and you can return less desirable dress.

Thanks,

The MGMT

Thanks for the input guys

I'd wear it with ankle-mid calf boots, and ballet style shoes that have low heels. The beige is more charming to me, but the black is overall a safer choice.

It's starting to bug me how much debate I'm giving this. I miiiight get both and if the beige doesn't work, give it to a friend it would definitly work with.

My wife always buys the two dresses that are up for debate and then we play fashion show. She simply returns the one we don't like.

You slobs make any new purchases for the summer? lots of good sales going on for you frugal f's

What's the FBG go-to brand for reasonably-priced simple yet generally-presentable t-shirts? I have a few H&M v-necks that I picked up awhile back that I do like, but as people accurately pointed out a few pages back, the quality is kinda crappy and they're a bit threadbare after a few washes. I like the fit and the feel of them, but worry about the quality and I don't think these are going to hold up. Not looking to break the bank here...I think I paid like $6/shirt for the H&M ones a few months back....but it'd be nice to pick up a decent looking shirt or two that won't fall apart in 6 months. Ideas?

H&M is rubbish. If you're cheap, go with Uniqlo (if you have one nearby. not sure if they're online yet) or Merona from your local Target.

I saw the Uniqlo talk a few pages back. Only reason I actually bothered with H&M is because I was wandering the mall and they were cheap and fit fairly well. Will have to look for those two.

I like the Mossimo T-Shirts from Target. $9 have them in crew and v-neck (high v-neck).

I lift and a medium fits well (5'5/145#).

haven't tried the mossimo ones due to poor fit a few years back but I'm open to reconsidering. Will report back next time I do my grocery shopping.

Not really about fashion - this is more form follows function - but I've had great luck with Ralph Lauren dress socks. If you've been frustrated by inexpensive dept store socks that wear out quickly, spend a little more on Polo/RL. Swear they're made out of Kevlar - f'n indestructible.

I'm a big Purple Label fan. Will have to try RL's other lines.

 I will check it out next time I'm at Target. I'm roughly the same size (5'7" 150) and waver between small/medium based on the brand's fit. Nice to know that a medium could be a good fit, some of them run a bit big in the chest on me.

Uniqlo has the best fit for a little guy like you. They make them for Japan hipsters so you'll be fine. I'm slim but built like an ox so the slim fit works well with my low bodyfat profile.

Mossimo vneck at Target is the way to go. $9 and decent quality. I've got a bunch of colors...solid summer staple. Athletic cut which is nice for us fit guys.

And try one on before you buy. I'm 6'2", 190lbs and I wear a size Medium (and no, its not tight, but not drowning in it either)

Good to know. I remember them going for that boxy/walmart/fattie consumer early on. Glad to see Moss coming correct for the Target demographic

Any of you rock a bow-tie? I think it's time.

:bowtie:
Hmmm. Do you have a new girlfriend or something?
It was very much a joke. The only time I'm wearing a tie is when I'm married and buried.
You guys are a bunch of slobs. Have you given up on life already? live a little. Spend more than $15 on jeans.
Whoa.... you took me all wrong. I like looking good in stylish, casual clothing. I'm just not the guy who's gonna voluntarily wear a tie very often.

sorry bro...i always pictured you as a 45 year old Walmart security guard by day. 5'8 pushing 225, wearing hockey jerseys and denim shorts by night.

I'm very handsome and shapely.

Where is a good place for a 40 something to go shopping? I am looking for a casual dress look for going out with the wife & her co workers. (She is a catering manager for a private college where we live, so there are some gatherings with management, president of the college, etc). I am a Service manager at a car dealership so my every day clothes are pretty simple. I go look in Gap, Old Navy or other stores and everything looks so young or way to old. I am looking for casual with jeans or maybe a little dressier for some occasions but not suit dressy.

Not necessarily my :style: but sounds like you're more of a mall goer...in that case try a Banana Republic or Macy's.

Don't bother with Gap, Old Navy (terrible), American Eagle, H&M joints.

Old Navy has its place. Namely, cheap t-shirts and sandals to wear to the beach.

nah, go to Target and get Merona. Girls dry up when they see an old navy shirt. Plus Merona has better quality/fit.

Fit and quality are complete garbage there. Plus 90% of there stuff has the words Old Navy on it somewhere. Terrible.

Better fit, quality and :style: for decent prices a place like Target if that's all you're looking for.

Land's End Canvas might work for you. All-American, seasonal and with a good range of stuff. Returns are easy too. Here's the thing: if you don't want to look like you shop at the mall then stop looking there. Plenty of places have interesting clothing but they require you to shop online. If that is the case then use free shipping to your advantage.

Nordstrom has a nice range and terrific return policy. Zappos does more than shoes and they're fantastic with returns.

Cosign on Nord and Zappos. Lands End is rubbish.

If you want to dress like a man and you should at your age, try: http://www.mrporter.com or http://www.barneys.com

Canvas line for casual can be solid. Porter? Barneys? One doesn't have to go to such lengths to look fresh and stylish. Consider Massimo Dutti, Uniqlo, Club Monaco, or, heck, even J Crew. Depending on the budget you can save a few lira in the process. Snellman isn't asking for a stylist but rather pointers.
