Has anyone tried Trunk Club?
Overall decent yelp scores - but some very telling bad ones.
Yeah, I read that one...and a few others. Besides Yelp I found some helpful reviews of the actual stylist I'm meeting with next week. I've found a ton of reviews that gave first/last name of various stylists and she seems solid (I did this before I responded & agreed to come to the clubhouse on Madison Ave.)

Seems like very good quality, pricey and varying quality of service.

Anyway, I'll report back. Expecting to drop at least $2K and possibly as much as 8-10K on this experience, so hopefully I enjoy it.

If anyone else has tried it, would love to hear how it went for you.
How about a store consultant - saw the Nordstrom personal shopper thing in another comment. Seems like paying $350 for shirts, etc. just isn't necessary for cool, quality stuff.

Have you done that? How'd that go?

I'm actually not sure what to expect from a price point perspective. I think I picked casual & business casual. My buddy's wife got him Trunk Club as a gift & he posted a pic of his first trunk. I'd have to go look up how much was in there but he had it all laid out on his bed & said if he kept everything it was going to be like $475. So it's not all $350 shirts.

No, I know you were asking about personal experiences. As I was reading the yelp reviews someone suggested Nordstrom had the personal shoppers. Seems like a decent option as well. Maybe try it if the TC doesn't work out.

I like the personal service deal but would like to know it was more likely an ongoing relationship. If my job depended on looking more sharp than my competitors (in/out of office) to get an edge or was still in the hunt for women I would definitely go that direction.

Looking good is not nearly as complicated as most of you make it.

1. Buy quality - it is obvious when you buy cheap ####

2. Buy classic - leave trendy for the 'try too hard' crowd

3. Make sure everything fits perfect - find a good tailor and use him liberally. Expect to spend 30% of your clothes budget on tailoring

Instead of paying whatever people are talking about for Trunk Club, buy a book like this

http://www.amazon.com/Details-Mens-Style-Manual-Ultimate/dp/159240328X

Learn some very basic classic looks / styles, learn basics of matching clothes, and you will be miles ahead.

I'm looking for a solid pair of black dress shoes to wear with suits...I love the shoes in the link below, but don't really want to drop 7 hundo.

thoughts on a similar looking shoe in the 200-300 range?  Looking at these...

No need to be buying from Nordstroms.  Go to Zappos.com and put in search "mens black wingtips"

My dream is to have enough money to buy 75% of my clothes from Brooks Brothers.
Nice sentiment. Paul Fussell can fuss around and call it middle class, but I want my suits from that place. Or CK. Or Polo. Or...

c'mon this is about money as much as it is about style, right?

If you want to save cash on designer gear, sites like Gilt and 6pm generally have good deals on the basics.  Good deal here:  http://www.6pm.com/testoni-basic-d45673mim-nero-tivoli-calf

Too Boot is pretty good quality. I have bought their stuff a few times and been happy. You might look at Frye. It's a heritage brand in some ways but it's really well made. Mangnanni is also good quality with a Euro-style touch without being too flashy. Check Neiman's Last Call site for them and you could get a good deal.

how many people tell you that you look just like that dreamy Soviet agent from The Americans, Costa Ronin?

Wow, way too shiny.  These are a great present for your grandpa, but I would warn against buying them.

I typically use bluefly for shoes, let me show you a pair that will get you noticed at a wedding (in a good way)

Hautelook has a Bruno Magli sale going on today. $450+ shoes for $200 type of sales. Includes some black wing tips.  Check it out.

I'm about to pull the trigger on those...looks like a great buy.

Cole Haan has not been a good brand for me. I had a pair that almost disintegrated after a year of regular use. I think they lost something when Nike bought them.
Agreed.  They are NOT what they used to be.  Had no idea that Nike had bought them.

The lower quality thing makes more sense now.

Wore them out yesterday with a light blue shirt and some sperrys. I gotta say, that's the most compliments I've ever gotten from hot women in one night. I had no idea.
Chicks dig pink/salmon.  Should get yourself a nice button down as well just don't wear both at the same time

Funny you post that. I saw a guy out today with salmon shorts and a pink dress shirt. It was really confusing. Why would anyone think that was a good idea?

Any thoughts on quality good looking tee shirts for men for summer?  Something with a little style....
Uniqlo has full supima shirts for like $10.  They fit nice and hold up.  Stick with solid colors in general, no words on your shirts, keep it simple...

Same here.  I bought a pair of the Nike Air loafers a few years back and they developed a squeak (in both shoes) within the first year.

Would like to get something similar to a pair of these.

Hoping to spent no more than $150.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Not really a fashion question, but what regular maintenance is good for shoes and suits?

I've got a couple of Johnston & Murphy shoes recently and I want them to have a long life.  How often do you clean/polish/etc?  Any recommendations for shoe trees?

For suits I know you are not supposed to wash/dryclean more than absolutely required, but how often do you brush them and what with?
