My thoughts on Division 0090’s draft after the fact. Warning: long post ahead!I thought it might be cool if there was a separate thread for those who want to post their teams, their strategy going in, adjustments made, favorite/least favorite pick, etc. If enough people are interested.First draft is this Saturday, right? What's the protocol for posting teams? I imagine a lot of people don't care what team you drafted, but I actually wouldn't mind seeing a few to see how the later drafts might go. But it could make the thread pretty spammy too. Dunno.
As soon as my draft position was official I knew I was selecting CMC or CD #2 overall. There was never another thought. In mocks where I took CMC I felt like the rest of the draft went more autopilot for me - I knew I would be pounding best available pass catchers for the next few rounds. Taking CD always allowed for a more open minded approach to the rest of the draft. So it was more fun/interesting in a way.
Coming back to the 2/3 turn I’ve only ever really been interested in Henry at RB if he makes it that far. Here he did not so I figured it’d be another WR/WR/WR start for me. Guys I’ve been locked in on are Kupp, Olave, and Collins. Olave went shortly before my pick so that left Kupp and Collins. I believe Collins will still be top dog in Houston but I decided that I didn’t want to miss out on a Kupp comeback tour more than I wanted Collins. Collins going next pick brought me to my first change up of my draft thought process - locking in a RB in the 3rd (which I’m glad that I did, especially given team 8’s unfortunate connection issues). I pondered over Achane, Pacheco, and Jacobs and thought heavily about taking Deebo as well. In the end I settled on Jacobs because I believe that he can be a true workhorse back this season in GB and I trusted his track record more than the younger guys available.
Coming back in the 4th I was hoping to pair Jacobs up with a RB like Kamara, Mixon, or Walker and then placing the position to the side for a while. All three went before my pick so I pivoted to the top TE on my board and took McBride there. I love Marvin and think he’ll be a star in the league but he is a rookie and I think Murray will rely on McBride just as much or even more than him this year. I figured I’d be getting Pickens on the way back ‘round in the 5th but I took a glance at the QB position, as that’s the highest I am comfortable taking one of the top guys if they fall there, and was pleasantly surprised to see Hurts still on the board. My favorite mocks involved taking Kyler a little later but in Hurts I figured I have a shot of ending up with a top 3 finisher at the QB, WR, and TE positions - while also being a firm believer that Kupp will be his dominant self once again.
Some other quick thoughts: in the Ridley thread I was one of the few higher on Kirk when they were in JAX together but I like his value better this year in TEN. If you end up with Gus I feel it’s almost imperative to secure JK as well. Having that backfield locked down could pay huge dividends especially when missing out on top RBs, now let’s hope Vidal doesn’t throw a wrench into that situation… Ha. I want a piece of the Bills and Packers receiving pie, even if I don’t know how it will all shake out, so I was pleased to come away with Watson and Samuel. Finally, I’m a fan of all Cowboy pass catchers and where they can be had this season as I believe they will air it out often and was happy to wrap up my draft with Tolbert.
