The Grossman Effect - Moss/Torain (1 Viewer)

With McNabb now riding the pine, what are the benefits (if any) to the other FF pieces?

Does this hurt Torain as they stack the box but help Moss?

Are either one of these players worth starting, let alone keeping on the roster?

Shoot. It's been so long since Grossman started I cannot remember his strengths/weaknesses and how they impact his other fantasy players.

One thing Grossman did receive praise for during his Chicago days was throwing a nice deep ball. If he can hit one to Moss early on to put some fear into the safeties it would obviously be a big help to Torain.

I agree. He has the arm strength, the question is the O-line going to give him the time. I hope Santana gets his (as I have him in a roster), but my gut says this is going to be an ugly game.

The Cowboys haven't been playing good defense. If they didn't get those 2 INT's for TD's against Indy, they would have been doing poorly for 4 weeks or so.

If Rex Ryan does as poorly as everone's saying, then I would fire Shannahan for giving up on the season. I don't give a crap what his excuses are for benching McNabb, if McNabb gives that team a better chance to win, he should be in there, otherwise the coach is giving up on the team. If that's the case, I dont' want a guy like that in charge of my football team.

So I'm holding judgement until after the game. He doesn't have to win the game, because I think Dallas would beat the Skins with McNabb in there. But if Rex Ryan is God awful, I'd fire him tomorrow night. I am not impressed with how this guy has handled the veterans on the team and they have not taken a step forward since he's been there. I've been pretty indifferent on Mike Shannahan his entire career but call me a skeptic at this stage of his career.

My gut tells me they try and run Torrain since Dallas has been giving up rush yards. I think there's some play action to Te's and some short to intermediate stuff to Moss with 1 or 2 deep balls to Armstrong that will probably land unsuccessful.

I still can't decide if the McNabb benching ultimately benefits Torain or hurts him this week. Anymore input out there this morning?

Thoughts: Sure, Dallas will stack the box and focus on the run, but the Redskin coaching staff clearly feel strongly that Grossman fits their system better than McNabb so maybe the passing game will be fine? Obviously Rex is nowhere near the QB that McNabb is but if the system suits him, then who knows... Also - if Torain gets more carries due to the switch then, stat-wise, couldn't those extra opportunities offset the added attention from the defense?

Rex Grossman led a team to a SuperBowl. The guy is not a rookie playing his first game, he threw for 23 TDs and over 3000 yards with Da Bears.

With a week of snaps under his belt he may do OK. Not saying he is going to light it up but he could have a decent game.

there is a chance that rex gets injured early because if the rumors are true and the team doesnt' like the shannys they might just let the shannys boy rex get beat to hell to show them that the players run the ship and rex really was never too great anyhow so i would not start him under most circumstances and would oppose any explanations why he is a good play believe that

Curious to see what Moss owners are doing this week. Dude is hot and Ramsay Grossman targeted him 13 times this week. Going up against the Seadogs Jags and the 29th 27th ranked pass D, he's almost a no brainer to start in your championship lineup. Thoughts?

edited for complete lack of correct information

I'm gonna roll with him over Austin and Rice.

Interesting, you're sitting Austin. I have that option as well, along with Branch. Andre, Austin, Deion, and Santana. Who's the odd man out? I might be sitting Deion for Santana instead. I like Miles' matchup against Arizona a little bit more than NE against the Buf, i think.

It comes down to targets. Moss is getting them. Austin is not. Moss appeared to be Grossman's first read. Austin is no better than Kitna's third read.

Agree, and being a Boys fan you would certainly know, thanks for the info. Just curious, who are your other WR's?

Who else feels safe rolling with Anthony Armstrong in their championship week?

He had 4 receptions for 100 yards last week with Grossman under center, and it was reminicsent of Berrian's role when Grossman played for the Bears. (Go deep, I'll just bomb it to you and hope you catch it for a TD)

I have to choose 3 out of Jennings/Welker/SJohnson/SMoss (PPR). Wow, this one is gonna be tough. Jennings actually gets the fewest targets of the four, but he has the most yards and TDs. But he also has the toughest match-up. Ordinarily I would choose between SJohnson and Moss, but both have great match-ups. While the Pats' secondary has improved since the start of the season, I still think they're quite vulnerable.

I was pleasantly surprised.

It certainly looked like even though Dallas didn't allow Torain to get off, he was still involved in the passing game. And Grossman made Santana look like a legit WR1.

This week's match-up is even better.

Torain didn't "get off" because the Redskins trailed pretty much all game. He was productive with his 11 carries, gaining 53 yards. Jacksonville has a worse run D than Dallas. Of course, Jacksonville is a better overall team than Washington and it's safe to assume the Redskins will find themselves trailing and possibly abandoning the run again. But, Torain was a bigger part of the passing game last week than he has been all season. There were designed screens and swing passes for him and one of the things the coaches like about Grossman is that he will get through his reads quickly and check it down before being sacked. Torain will be a recipient of those.Torain is a solid start this week. He has very little competition for RB touches and is about as close to a workhouse back, when healthy, as there is right now. He has 45 of the 54 RB touches the last two weeks for Washington. If they can stay close, he's good for 20+ carries and 100+ yards.
