The Next 100 best movies from the 80's (2 Viewers)

32 (tie). Halloween 2
Scoresman - #9

I probably should have found room for this in my list. Those hospital scenes were creepy AF. And of course the greatest horror theme/score ever.

I probably watched the hot-tub scene 89 million times when I had the VHS of this.
That scene was hot - until the nurse started nibbling on Mike’s fingers. That and when she started melting.

don't kink shame, brah

Best stuntman name ever
Best Meyers in the series history. And he was not a big dude at all.

wiki blows for revealing his real name ☹️

Exactly. Try to imagine seeing it for the first time as an adult.
The adults that watched it always seemed to like it, and I watched it last year and it held up fine
Fair enough. Different experiences and all, which got me thinking about my theory. A possible answer is that it's a great movie and I am a dum dum for not liking it, and it should call into question all my movie takes. It's fun, and it's grown on me a little, but it's not top 100 for me personally. It's in that pack of 100s of movies that are 6-7/10s and I would have fun watching with people that I talked about. I mean, it's not like it's Caddyshack or anything. It's a good movie. It would have been in the next 100 for me, but to be clear about a decade ago it wouldn't have even been a thought, so there's hope for me. ;)

I wasn’t saying that at all. It’s subjective and that’s all I was saying - I didn’t buy that reasoning necessarily but if you don’t like it, you don’t like it. I can’t even say “your loss” because you don’t care.

I would like to make a motion to lock this thread and start a fresh "next top 100" countdown list. All movies not yet mentioned in either this thread or the original top 100 would be eligible for that new thread. That way we don't waste some of the great remaining movies in this current thread. Then, once the new thread is over, we reopen this thread with a new title like "remaining 80's movies I personally loved". That way everyone is happy. The purists and people interested in discussing the top movies of the 80's get what they want, and the people who want to list their obscure personal loves or shtick picks or whatever are also happy. It's a win-win. I've never been one to participate in draft or list threads but I would like to submit a list for the new thread. I would also encourage other people serious about good movies to include a list. Contrarian picks welcome but save the sitcom TV movies and movies you love because you and your cousins used to eat italian ice while watching them for this thread once it reopens. Thank you to everyone who has participated so far and will participate in the future. All in favor?

No. Just stop.

Let them finish their lists - it’s their opinions and they did the work. If people have glaring disagreements, they can post them afterwards. Worst case is that we have every ‘80s movie listed, which is fine for discussion.

I hear you. I thought the idea of a pause was a win-win but if it guys take it personally or makes them think their work was for naught then I guess it isn't. My thinking was it would eventually help this thread as it would likely continue indefinitely.

Feel free to critique particular movies or add to the conversation but GTFO with this ridiculousness.

So that was just my #16 pick. 9 of my remaining 15 movies are sequels. :lmao:

1 of them I will be pulling a Godfather 2 and making the claim that it is better than the original.
I thought you said that was Caddyshack two already?
Wrong person.
On the Caddyshack reveal @shuke said he was solo on Caddyshack and that you had Caddyshack 2 at #58. Doesn't that mean you had C2 better than the original?

(Unless shuke is just playing)

ETA: Oops....that was Lambskin with C2 at #58. I apologize.

Yep. I just edited my post.

29 (tie). Friday the 13th part 2
Scoresman - #8

Pretty good slasher flick. I love how these original theatrical trailers basically showed you how everyone was going to die. :lmao:
I was thinking about 80s' post about 4 and 6 being go-tos, and I agree but also throw this one in there. I prefer the evens, but I strong like for any of them stops at #6. Then we get to some psychokenetic, toxic sludge, heart eating, space travelling nonsense.

So I knew I needed to have a Friday the 13th movie in my top 10. I share names with Jason and it was my Halloween costume for years growing up. Just a huge part of the 80s. Friday the 13th part 3 is special to me because its the first horror movie I ever saw. It was passed around my class, one kid watching it secretly before giving it to another kid to watch like some underground bootleg ring run by fourth graders. Eventually a parent confiscated it and that was that. It also features the first pair of boobs I ever saw.

Eventually though I chose Part 2 because it's ,my lasting favorite from the series. The cast is great, the deaths are great, especially wheelchair guy, The cinematography was also great. There were a few times where you could see Jason approaching through a window, creating all sorts of tension. But most of all, this is the only one where Jason is somewhat human, and to me that makes it way scarier. There's even a kill where he struggles for a bit with the lead male character and it's actually a fight. And they managed to create a movie-ending jumpscare even better than the original. I'll take sackhead Jason over hockey mask Jason anytime.

29 (tie). Clue
Lambskin - #8

Nice ensemble cast here.

WODSWORTH: The game’s up Scarlet, there are no more bullets left in that gun.
MISS SCARLET: Come on, I am not going to fall for that old trick.
WODSWORTH: It’s not a trick. There was one shot at Mr Body in the study, two for the chandelier, two at the lounge door and one for the singing telegram.
MISS SCARLET: That’s not six.
WODSWORTH: One plus two plus two plus one (1+2+2+1).
MISS SCARLET: Ahah, there was only one shot that got the chandelier. That’s one plus two plus one plus one (1+2+1+1).
WODSWORTH: Even if you were right that would one plus one plus two plus one (1+1+2+1) not one plus two plus one plus one.
MISS SCARLET: Ok, fine 1+2+1…. Shut up! Point is, there is one more bullet left in this gun and guess who is going to get it?”

There will be plenty left for a third 100
I still have 26 movies from my original top 100 that haven't yet been named
Looking at what's been skipped on my list (which I believe means it'll be ranked higher because more than one of us chose it), there are some popular classics coming up. Unless of course, these 26 movies on your list are all foreign black and white avant garde silent period pieces. Then you may be waiting for the next next 100.

It's a bit of a mix but I didn't have Conan or Talk Radio.

27 (tie). Talk Radio
shuke - #7

I doubt this gets the praises that Conan does. I love Oliver Stone, and Bogosian is excellent in this role. Based on the murder of Alan Berg by white supremacists, but with plenty of Stone's typical artistic license.
I saw that way back. I remember I liked it. I didn't remember that it was an Oliver Stone.

This always felt a little like a DePalma film, and Bogosian kills this role. Not easy to thread the needle he does here, this is a very unlikable hero.

Amazing 80's cast, Alec Baldwin AND John C. McGinley, you kidding me?? Michael Wincott with a cameo you cannot take your eyes off.

25 (tie). Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom
Scoresman - #6

Probably great on it's own but difficult to compare it to its predecessor, and there's not comparison.
The only hate for this one I understand is around Willy. "INNNDDYYYYYYYYYYYY!!!" Nails on a chalkboard.

But despite that, I think this one gets a bad wrap. It's really dark which I love, and it's really the only one in the series where Jones' actions in the movie matter towards the outcome. Definitely the worst of the trilogy, but still great IMO.

The next 3 picks are shuke solo picks, my top 3. Then the top 18 were all on multiple lists.

I'll give you a hint. My top 4 picks all have one thing in common.
