Well, if this is a prelude to the rest of the NFL season.. I'm READY!!!Was a fun first game to watch even though my guys didn't do all that well.

Wow. I'm no Pats fan but you can't call that casino luck
I can call it casino luck because it is. They were gifted three turnovers inside the 20. The INT was a great play. The fumbles were just s**ty play be Edgerrin. The good news is that I've already seen enough. It makes me happy inside to know that that Patriots team isn't good enough to win the Super Bowl again, the Red Sox aren't good enough to win the World Series, and John Kerry is going to get his ### kicked in November.Have a nice night.HERD
Just like it was obvious after losing to Buffalo 31-0 in their season opener last year.GG
Who cares about last year? The Patriots are 1-0, good for them. I'm telling you this so we can bump it later:THey beat a team with a high-octane offense, no pass-rush, crummy corners, and mediocre D-line play because that team needlessly turned the ball over twice inside the 20. Brady was haggled once all-night and Smoo himself could have done a better job in man-coverage. HERD

The reason the Pats went for the pass at 2:08 seconds, on second down, is the clock stopped at 2:00 anyway. They were probably looking for a longer developing pass play to take up those 8 seconds. At least, that's why I thought before they did it. I said to my buddy, "Betcha they pass here." Too bad it didn't work out for em.It's the first game of the season, it doesn't mean much. We haven't seen the real Pats and Colts team yet, although it was a great game to watch. For Pats fans only - How about Wilfork and Watson? They didn't contribute a ton, but what they did looked pretty good. That one-armed tackle by Wilfork to stop Edge short of a first, from behind, was just sweet, and the fumble recovery was a nice bonus. I have high hopes for that kid, what a steal he was.I agree with Colin, the pick was sweet and the two fumbles were mistakes by Edge. You still have to give credit to the defense (and the rain) for causing the fumbles, he didn't just drop it on the ground. Branch's fumble was nearly as costly as any one of Edge's fumbles, but he only did it once.Just my one cent.GG

Boy did Indy screw this game up or what?? LOL I would be sick if I was an Indy fan. Seriously
Yep.I hope the Colts can come back from this. I seriously wonder if that is the case.

StokelyGrahamand Pattenwill be WAY overvalued during the waiver wire in my league. The all scored 8-10 points in the league and no one has them.(We don't have to start a TE, or I might want Graham myself :excited: )

You said that it's obvious after the first game that there is no way they can win the superbowl. Although you are a heavy favorite to be correct with this statement (Vegas says 45-1 from what I recall), I'm not sure that anything can be determined by the first regular-season game a team plays. Also, Ty Law was out of most of the game. I don't think I'd be hanging myself if I said that the Pat's defense is much better with him taking care of the #1 receiver. I think Vrabel was out for awhile too, not that Colvin is really a downgrade. But, I think you just hate the Pats and nothing I say will make a difference. GG

11 pages of good football observation. The only whining I saw was from HERD. Give it a rest. Get over it. Move along.

All I can say is F-Al Michaels.Keeps harping on Vanderjagt, and how he hasn't missed a FG since 2002. "I don't think a NE timeout can freeze Vanderjagt." Blah blah...Thanks for the jinx, buttmunch!
I think Michaels missed the point on the timeout. The Pats wanted a little time to work with if he made the field goal. Brady and Vineteri only need around 30 seconds to produce a field goal drive and kick. I think the Pats still had two timeouts left as well.

Herd sounds like a really bitter man. You can tell the ones who are really bitter about the Patriots because they start bringing up the Red Sox.

Regardless of what we think we saw out of NE tonight, it doesn't change the fact that they are a much, much better team than they were 3 years ago when they won a Super Bowl they didn't belong at. Face it gents, this is the new NFL. Parity DOES NOT mean that everyone has gotten better - it just means everyone sucks equally.

I had Graham and Edge going tonight. Pleased with both. I would have preferred atleast 1 td and one less fumble from Edge, but in my league scoring, he still got me 12 points, but more importantly, he looked really good. No doubt Edge will be mindful of the need to take care of the ball a little better.30 carries for Edge is a huge load of carries...I hope Tom Moore doesn't run him into the ground. The Colts needs better play calling within the red zone, particularly in around the opp. 5 yard line. When they can work on that, then Edge is better than back....he is top3!Graham was great. I actually switched him from a starter to a reserve and replaced him with Putzier 5 minutes before the lineup deadline. Then I switched him back to being a starter. Thank God I did that. I would have been sick to my stomach. This was a great first game.

I was very impressed by Brady's accuracy. He just doesn't miss and that bodes ill for Pats' opponents this season. O-line gave him lots of time, too. NE secondary is still very very tough but they'll have to find a way to firm up the D-line as the season progresses. Either that line is pretty soft or the Colts' running game is awfully good, I haven't decided which yet.Colts shot themselves in the foot (again) and could easily have won this game. They're still for real and should win the division. The secondary looked bad on the surface but I saw some pretty good coverage at times which was overcome by Brady's pinpoint accuracy. A better pass rush would have helped enormously. The offensive weapons are all there and even a very good defense like the one they played last night couldn't shut it down. Two really good teams playing really well in their openers. Great way to kick off the season.

"Herd sounds like a really bitter man. You can tell the ones who are really bitter about the Patriots because they start bringing up the Red Sox. "Herd is a very bitter Titans fan who always bellyaches whenever the Patriots do well. Watch as the season progresses and he'll make excuses when New England wins and then say 'I told you so' when they lose.

Its funny because hes usually such a reasonable and logical poster....I wouldn't expect this out of him.

Here's my beef with the Patriots. It was the same beef as it was last year and its already started this year. Call me a whiner all you like, because I don't care. The Patriots were the best team in football. Starting the year 1-0 against a very good team means they can (obviously) continue to claim they are the best team in football. I get that, and I admit it.My problem with them is that I can not recall, in all of my years of being a sports fan, any team in organized sports that has benefited so much from cicurmstance. Yes, its part of the game, but this is getting out of control. They remind me of the team in your fantasy league that finishes middle of the road in total points, but goes 11-2 because they played every one in their worst week. They remind me of the guy at the poker table who keeps winning pots with middle-pair, bad kicker and no matter how much you want to take his money, you keep getting dealt 72 offsuit. I'm not going to harp on last year. Its over, they won the Super Bowl. Congrats to the Pats. But I reserve the right to ##### and moan about last night's game because its continuing. The Colts blew that game about as bad as a team can. Turnovers, bonehead plays, busted playcalls, poor tackling, no pass rush...and they STILL should have won. I like good football as much as anyone, and last night's game was a really good start to the season. THe Pats won the game, and they're off to a good start.

Herd,as for your last post, once again you are not crediting the Pats, only excusing the colts because of "Turnovers, bonehead plays, busted playcalls, poor tackling, no pass rush". I agree, all of those things happened to the Colts last night. But what about the referee bias against the Pats. What about the exceptional performance from Brady. What about no Kevin Faulk, no Troy Brown, and Ty Law gone for key moments in the game due to injury. The Patriots won because they have the heart of a lion. Call it what you want but you have to admit that it is very frustrating listening the way you CONSTANTLY dog the Pats and NENVER give them the credit they deserve.

Tom Brady is a stud. Corey DIllon is going to be fantastic as a Patriot. THe WR and TEs are weapons a plenty. The O-line was awesome in protecting Brady. However, I'm not just going to offer praise that I don't feel is deserved. THe Pats LBs and DL got shredded on the ground and in the short-passing game. The DBs were asleep at a number of key moments. And the Pats play-calling (in the 4th quarter) was questionable at times. As for referee bias against the Pats....what are you talking about? I thought the game appeared to be called fair all the way around. I missed a few plays here and there (getting beer, paying the pizza guy), but I didn't see anything that looked out of whack. If I missed something, please let me know.COlin

I gotta go with Herd on this one.. New England's defense was an open door to Indy.. How do you let Stokley get THAT open down the middle with less than 2 minutes to play? For a defense that is being taken in the top 3 for most leagues, Edge had a lot of big runs against them. If Manning looks the other way just once on that play and throws the ball out of bounds, you're tied going into OT.The Pats dodged a bullet here and have some definite question marks.

You know, I can't argue with that. Fair enough. The Pats have been good AND lucky lately. As a Pats fan, I hope it continues. Maybe it's a cosmic balancing for the Red Sox fortunes over the last few, oh, eighty years.Still, I missed the part where all these Pats fans were supposedly whining last night.

I don't think any Pats fans were whining last night. I think the comments were directed at me and my whining.Colin

Perhaps. But Manning getting sacked while being blitzed from the right side and Edge not protecting the ball after his first fumble remind me of the guys who slowplays his set, and then curses the gut who hits the gutshot against them.

There are many, many Patriot fans myself included who despise John Kerry so lets not lump all New Englanders togethor as Kerry (gag) supporters. But a potential 2 out of 3 aint bad ;)
