Paul and Stevie were in perfect harmony on those collaborations. All these Stevie picks make me nervous that I'd better take this right now.
11.02 Stevie Wonder - Sir Duke (1977)
I'm taking this on the single, not the album, release date. And some versions of the single had another favorite of mine as its b-side, so hell yeah I want that, too: He's Misstra Know It All.
Stevie's connection, of course, is through a bunch of collaborations and/or duets with Paul, including "What's That You're Doing" on Tug of War, "Only Our Hearts" on Kisses on the Bottom, and Paul playing guitar on Stevie's "A Time to Love." Stevie was also part of the infamous A Toot and a Snore in '74 with Paul, John, and Harry Nilsson.
And that is it, the sum total of Stevie's connections to Paul. Yep, that is all. There is not any other duet to mention here.
I can confess I loved that song in '98 and still do today.A Night At The Roxbury (never saw it, but this fits). You should have seen some of the earnest reviews back when about what this song meant to people. I don't think they're easily located on Amazon, but I remember one in particular. I try not to approach this ironically, but rather, as a stand-alone piece from its culture.
Round 11
Song: Better Off Alone
Artist: Alice Deejay

can only think of the Sweeney sisters when I hear this song.11. “The Trolley Song” Judy Garland (1944)
https://youtu.be/Ln3sNwccHxI
For the record: Frances Gum was born in Minnesota. Judy Garland, on the other hand, was born in Hollywood, and thus I claim her for my draft.
“The Trolley Song” is from the classic MGM film Meet Me in St Louis, but it became a permanent part of Judy’s repertoire.
This is the best thing in her catalog, and her band KILLED it live. This version from 1977 is incredible: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=cEWosGN7Eis11.24 Linda Rondstadt - You're No Good (1974)
And I think it's wild how she doesn't think she did this as well as should could.
I stay keep it going. You still have time to make lemonade. And you can always add an addendum at the end.I may have to bow out. I had done a bunch of research and had my whole draft mapped out pretty much exactly with the stupid understanding that after round 15 we could pick any 5 years to double up on. That's my fault but now I feel a bit deflated.

Sorta snipe, but I already took something from 81. Was hoping I could get it if 1981 became eligible.
1981 I had 2 front runners: Let's Groove or Give it to me babySorta snipe, but I already took something from 81. Was hoping I could get it if 1981 became eligible.
Maybe. I was using it as a guide to crafting a class that I would like to pitch to teach someday as an elective on the history of Detroit through music so this was kind of a double project for me. I could always just draft some things but I literally had the whole draft planned and through lines for almost everything. I might just rather work on the class. It’s my own fault for not reading the rules close enough and just jumping in because it’s an idea I’ve had percolating since I taught the History of Rock and Roll class for a year and this seemed like a fun way to delve into it and something to keep me on schedule. Though we probably won’t even have in person school for another year anyway so what’s the rush.I stay keep it going. You still have time to make lemonade. this should be the "hold" music on all suicide-prevention hotlinesWell you made my pick easier as I was debating between Let's Groove and the one I'm taking here now:
10.12 Earth Wind & Fire - September
(1978)
Not much to say about this other than great groove. This song was played a lot at my high school job and I used to think the lyrics were something something something ah ah ah Living in America.
Suddenly you remember dancing in September is way better line

funky bassline, along with horns and backing vocals, drives one of Rick James' most famous songs. The b side is a ballad that I'm going to leave for someone else.
YesI still haven't read the free play stuff. I can just draft 50 years and not double up, right?
you got a theme, Bink? is it "music to grow a porn moustache to"?Binky The Doormat said:

Fixed - not sure how that got in there. B-side should be yourskrista4 said:Crap, I just realized the b-side might have been taken already. There were other b-sides. I'm running out for a few hours but will correct it when I get back if need be. @Yo Mama, could you check your Stevie entry on the sheet? It looks weird - doesn't have his name in there but has three songs listed, one where the name should be.
I know I’m all F the rules and standing up to The Man with my theme, but I say just go with your original plan. It’s your playlist and I doubt your doubling up in other years from the official free play years will mess anyone else up.Ilov80s said:Maybe. I didn't think that was it...thought of the three years he would roll a die or something and we would only get one year to choose from based on that. This is probably in the first post or something, but that involves more clicking than I'm willing to do.so from rounds 15-20, eephus will give 3 specified years (the most drafted across all drafters) and then anyone can draft from those years, regardless if any of their picks previous or subsequent are from those years?
And then repeat same in each subsequent 5-round grouping, but with 3 years not used in the previously free-play rounds?
So we could guess what those years are going to be by reviewing the spreadsheet, particularly as we get closer, right?
That video gave me chills. I always forget to check out more of his stuff.Well I’ve been hitting up the late 60s / early 70s sweet spot for the past few rounds (hoping to stack the deck for free play selection), but it’s time to shift things to more recent years - although 2019 seems like a decade ago. Yo Mama selects:
11.23 - Gary Clark Jr. - This Land (2019)
I just started listening to Gary last year for the first time (newer stuff takes a while to get to me musically). I forget if I was introduced to his music in a FBG draft or somewhere else, but I’ve become a fan. I dig the mix of soul, blues, and rock with the occasional sprinkling of hip hoppiness.
This song is very powerful and timely (so is the video) and is a great addition to my playlist. Pretty sure this song and the album both won Grammies this year. FYI - lots of N’s and F’s on this song for the more delicate ears.

I see, so there’s a way to make an educated guess, but not really know for sure.I didn't think that was it...thought of the three years he would roll a die or something and we would only get one year to choose from based on that.
