Why would Goodell make a comment right before the SB that none of Ben's teammates "went to his defense" when he interviewed them before the season started?

The week of the SB is enough of a circus as it is, why contribute this bit of information so that Ben has to answer even more questions about it?

Peter King issues a clarification: Goodell on Roethlisberger sanction

Sloppy journalism. I also wonder why Goodell thought it was important that some NFL players being unsupportive of Roethlisberger for not signing jerseys should have any bearing in deciding the suspension. Then again most of Goodell's decisions have seemed odd to me.

If there was nothing to it, he would not have been suspended. We can play this game all day. What was his poor judgment? Going to a club? Seriously? Is he the only NFL player that went to a club?

The DA stated that he did not have enough evidence that a sexual assualt had even occured. If Goodell had more evidence to the contrary then he was morally obligated to share that with the DA. Roethlisberger was suspended because boorish behavior was becoming an embarrassment to the NFL.......and also, according to Peter King, because he didn't sign some players jerseys.

I gotta admit that as someone who is picking GB this makes me nervous. I've seen them all be wrong before. Tony Dorsett picked Pitt, but then that's where he came from...

Myself, I have seen quite a few picking Pittsburgh. That's as it should be. This is a "pick 'em" game. I have high hopes as a Packer fan, but would not be at all surprised by a Pittsburgh win. They are a fine franchise, experienced in this game, and they have more weapons than some think. It is true that the Packers 3 & 4 W.R. are somewhat more experienced, and are very good, but Pitt has some up and coming guys there, Sanders and Brown as I recall, and they have been making plays.

I do see some desire for each team's fan base to hope their team can gain a motivational edge through the disrespect card, but the effort is actually less than I have ever seen for a superbowl. Frankly I don't see it happening. I think the teams respect each other and that the fans do as well. I think both teams will find all the motivation and challenge they need just looking across the line of scrimmage.

Both of these teams have shown they are capable of playing a great game, or of throwing up a clunker. Neither played a great game in the championship games. They each played a great half and then hung on. So I can see this game going in just about any direction imaginable.I still give the edge to the Steelers because of their SB experience. Most of them have been here before, many of them twice before.

Sometimes I believe starters hurt their teams by trying to play with significant injuries. I appreciate he is very talented. I just doubt that he at 80% is as good as his backup. Taking practice reps, much needed practice reps, from a backup in a futile attempt to make the field for a few plays before reinjury occurs strikes me as foolish, selfish, and countrproductive to the team effort.

That said I love it when Willis Reed takes the floor of the Garden or when Reggie White insists that God healed him.

I guess it is a fine line between selfish and foolish on the one hand and inspirational on the other.

It is a tough choice. Legursky, if he is needed, obviously needs the practice time. It all still comes down to whether Pouncey can play. No, they all count. But they aren't Super Bowls. And I'm not sure what any of it has to do with Sunday's game.

They absolutely all count, but the difference among championships isn't just whether there was a game called the Super Bowl or not. It stands to reason, at least to most people, that the number of teams competing for a championship is relevant to how big of an accomplishment it is to win it.The 1961, 1962 and 1965 Packers were champions out of a pool of 14 teams.The 1966 and 1967 Packers were champions out of a pool of 24 and 25 teams, respectively.And of course, the 1996 Packers were champions out of a pool of 30 teams.Those are differing accomplishments, even though they all absolutely count.It can also be pointed out that the 1961 and 1962 Packers played and won only one playoff game, whereas the 1967 Packers played and won three. Again, differing accomplishments.How about if we all agree that both franchises are historically great but that they have achieved their legendary status by different meaningful championship accomplishments? It works for me.

It stands to reason, at least to most people, that the number of teams competing for a championship is relevant to how big of an accomplishment it is to win it.The 1961, 1962 and 1965 Packers were champions out of a pool of 14 teams.The 1966 and 1967 Packers were champions out of a pool of 24 and 25 teams, respectively.And of course, the 1996 Packers were champions out of a pool of 30 teams.Those are differing accomplishments, even though they all absolutely count.It can also be pointed out that the 1961 and 1962 Packers played and won only one playoff game, whereas the 1967 Packers played and won three. Again, differing accomplishments.How about if we all agree that both franchises are historically great but that they have achieved their legendary status by different meaningful championship accomplishments? It works for me.

I was joking and testing. If I was dealing with Cowboys fans they'd be all over those old championships but you are right. The Steelers are the 6th oldest franchise. Until 1970 you didn't win much but after that won a lot more consistently than we did.Now we are doing better(since Wolf/Holmgren) and hope we meet a lot in the future now that we "borrowed" your defense.

Pouncey plans to practice, hopes to play

Today - 1:40 PM ET

Steelers C Maurkice Pouncey (ankle) plans to practice by Thursday or Friday and still believes he has a chance to play in the Super Bowl.

Pouncey has ditched his hard cast and is walking around Media Day in a boot, which is at least a sign of tangible progress. After seemingly conceding days ago that his ankle was fractured, he's now insisting that it's merely sprained. This could be gamesmanship by the Steelers. We'll have a better read on Pouncey's status after practice reports reel in on Thursday and Friday.

Sometimes I believe starters hurt their teams by trying to play with significant injuries. I appreciate he is very talented. I just doubt that he at 80% is as good as his backup. Taking practice reps, much needed practice reps, from a backup in a futile attempt to make the field for a few plays before reinjury occurs strikes me as foolish, selfish, and countrproductive to the team effort.

That said I love it when Willis Reed takes the floor of the Garden or when Reggie White insists that God healed him.

I guess it is a fine line between selfish and foolish on the one hand and inspirational on the other.

Legursky is a second-year undrafted free agent guard who played 3 quarters at center all season and in that time, managed to botch a snap so badly that it cost the team a safety and nearly a trip to this very game.Pouncey is the first rookie to make the Pro Bowl at center since 1955, and was voted 2nd team All-Pro at age 21..

Clearly, if Pouncey can play, he's going to play. If he's not well enough to start, they'll de-activate him and call up a a practice squad player. I just think they need another day or so to test it out. If he at 80% isn't better than Legursky, they'd have already de-activated him. Legursky has been taking all the reps since Pouncey went down.

I re-watched the second half of the Steelers-Jets game the other day and I didn't think Legursky was all that bad. I'm assuming the bad snaps are easily correctable over two weeks of practice. He's not going to be confused with a pro-bowl center and will likely need some help with Raji, perhaps more than Pouncey would need, but he's scrappy and I think a decent fill-in if Pouncey can't go.

Agreed. He isn't Pouncey but aside from the couple botched snaps I thought he did a decent job. Remember that Pouncey went down at the end of the drive so the Steelers were still able to move the ball and score with Legursky in there.

The Packers run out of their nickle set quite often (actually, a strong majority of the time they are in the 4-2-5), and he was wondering how much Raji is just over center or more over a guard or in that gap.

My counter to that will be where a newer guy may struggle is in helping with Raji, will he recognize and pick up a twisting blitz from Hawk and Bishop...or when Matthews comes around inside on his rush.
