I just mean they have been long time regulars in the movie thread. Honestly it was Krista, eephus, el floppo and KP who got me to watch foreign movies. I was pretty out of touch with them but they made some great recommendations and it changed my viewing habits. So I do owe a bit of this to them.

That is on me. I love the look, sound, design but it just doestn't entertain me quite enough relative to the original. KP was the one who got BR2049 this high. He even questioned me thinking it was an oversight not having BR2049 down for my list.
I will say it's not flawless, just ambitious.

I agree for the most part, but its just like the Academy to reward an actor for big transformations and/or putting themselves through the ringer. My love is more about the direction and how amazing the movie looked. Imo Leo is geeat in it, and has the ability to relay thougts and emotions just through his eyes and face. I would give awards to more overall performances like he does in other movies of the era. Kids movie, yeah yeah I know but the songs are awesome, the animation looks gorgeous (the water and hair especially gets me). It's by far the best use of The Rock in any movie. The dumb little chicken cracks me up and Jermaine from Flgiht of the Conchord is such a good villain, best part of the movie. Moana 2 is an entirely different story. What a clunker that is.#116/#115:

I also recently watched this for the first time. It was better than I expected but was not top 100 worthy for me. As for the Leo Best Actor thing, he benefited from a weak weak line-up. Eddie Redmayne in the Danish Girl after having won the year prior? Nope. Fassbender for Steve Jobs? Cranston as Dalton Trumbo? I guess I would have voted Matt Damon for The Martian. This is false. I don't like the 70s/early 80s comedies which is where this rep comes from as we debate "greatest" ever comedies. I had about 50+ on my list I had to narrow down and all my family/animated movies make me laugh along with my horror/comedies and even movies like Edge of Tomorrow. Having comedy in my movies is essential. Yes, I like bleak dramas but they are a small % of what I watch, and even some of those I have scenes I laugh at.I’m a little surprised by that one, I just admit.
