Is this the most lists a show has appeared on so far? SoA was heavy at times but super good. It is what makes me now just watch something automatically if Charlie Hunnam is in it.
My wife too, but I’m guessing for different reasons…

I really didn’t think I’d have the show rated as high as I did. Was surprised when the list was spit out. I think if I redid it it would be more higher 20 low 30, but here we are…

Season 1 to me more than makes up for the hit and miss aspects of the journey through the other seasons. I usually rewatched a Season 1 week's episode many times prior to the next one being released. Part of this was people guessed the twist pretty early on which led to debate and the need to go see what they sar. I was not observant enough on first watch to catch these twists.

Are the later seasons really not worth watching like I see online? Or just not as good as the first? I dont like watching incomplete series so only a season 1 watch doesn't really interest me.

Really liked S1. Not even sure if I got through S2, maybe it was S3 where I stopped. Thought I heard S4 got good again I was just never able to pick it back up

I think Golden Girls should be higher. One of the best written sitcoms of all time.

Always been interested in Westworld but turned off by all the hate the show gets after Season 1.
Yep. They really dealt with a lot of issues that just weren’t discussed regularly back then

I remember watching this is a kid, I think it was part of the TGIF rotation but not 100% on that, but I still managed to tune in and watch a bunch of old ladies

We still watch the reruns almost every Sunday, sometimes it’s just background noise, but for being a 30 year old show or whatever it doesn’t seem dated

The chemistry they had on the show was amazing, even if it sounds like behind the scenes they didn’t always get along

Not as good as the 1st, but the 1st was remarkable. I loved the storyline of this show. Like most shows it got to fancy.

The fall off was greatly exaggerated imo. It gets convoluted but all the info to follow along is there

Finally broke a string of 4 shows i have never seen (Clone Wars, Oz, SoA, and Westworld). I couldn't not have this show listed. So hilarious at the time even if I was just a kid. I wasn't sure if it would make the countdown and to see that I was one of the lower rankers of those ranking suprises me a bit. But it's only right that it should have been ranked in the 60's. ha

If we could rank single seasons, I would place season 1 of Westworld VERY high. But the other three seasons (especially season 3) were bad enough to drop it out of my top 70.

The writing is sometimes cheesy, as is often the case on network sitcoms, but the cast has great chemistry and the point of view is from a demographic that often gets ignored in the entertainment industry.

These days I see it as comfort TV. My wife can’t fall asleep without the TV on, so we set it to the Hallmark channel and fall asleep to Golden Girls reruns.

I’m shocked at the Golden Girls love. Shocked.
This begs the question (to me anyways) whether people's memories of shows are fonder than the quality of the shows themselves. Put another way, if people went watched shows now that they liked from decades ago . . . would they still find them as good and enjoyable?

I recently watched some episodes of shows that I liked "back in the day" . . . Family Ties, Cheers, The Six Million Dollar Man, The Fall Guy, Starsky & Hutch, etc. They get played on weird channels, some of them are even broadcast still. After watching a few, first I was like, "well maybe this one was one of the weaker episodes." Then I'd watch a few more, and the glory of the old days element seemed to wear off. It doesn't make them bad shows . . . but they may not have the same impact as it did on 12- or 15- or 20-year-old Anarchy.

I get the sense in some of these older shows that people are attached to their childhood and the shows that came along with it. I used to watch The Golden Girls with my mom. It was her favorite show, and it was something we scheduled around. It was a big deal. I didn't hate it . . . thought some episodes were funny. It's one of the things I remember doing most with my mom. But I personally wouldn't put it in a best of category (of all time, of the 80's, of comedies, etc.). Different strokes for different folks. (Not an endorsement for Different Strokes.)

In the case of the Golden Girls, I find that the humor has stood up. I've watched a few fairly recently. I dont feel the same about most other 80s sitcoms, even things like Cheers.

I re-watched Cheers recently and it definitely held up.

I didn't think the Golden Girls was funny when it was new/fresh (and it surely wasn't relatable) - but comedy is obvioudly very subjective.

I totally disagree with this for Cheers. I started a rewatch a few weeks ago. I throw it on if we finish off a show late but it's not quite time to go to bed. I watch an episode or two every few days. I am up to Season 3 and it has held up to me. Still funny, still great writing, still great chemistry. Just tremendous. I definitely think it is just as good now as it was then and those talking about Sanford and Son's theme this theme has that crushed and is the best of all time IMO.

I knew @zamboni was gonna have this high. I was in HS on the hoops team when this show was on, so it hits home. I don't think I've watched it since its original run, so I don't know how it holds up - but I recall it being grittier than anything else on primetime in the late '70s. At least two of the actors went on to be big-time TV directors.

I was a basketball player too. To me, aside from the great characters and excellent storylines, what impressed me the most was they had very realistic basketball scenes and (mostly) real players. Most basketball scenes in tv and movies at that point and since (looking at you Chachi) was pretty cheesy and fake.

If this was more of a “favorites” ranking for me instead of a “greatest” ranking, White Shadow would probably be in my top ten. Love this show. ♥️

I hear you. I would have had it Top 20 no matter what. As you say, the in-game scenes were very realistic (well, Salami wasn't the greatest dribbler). It just felt like "this is real", ya know?

I remember this show having a distinct drop off in quality. I can't remember the exact season or plotline where it went off the rails. But, I remember it going from must watch TV to "let's see how they wrap up this stupid thing".

I didn't know Salami did. Thorpe & Hayward seemed to direct about half of the episodes aired on TV in the '80s/90s. I'd be watching some random show and see one of them listed in the credits - "WTF? He was on 'White Shadow!'"

Love this "show" but the truth is, it wasn't really a TV show. Each episode was a TV movie (90 minutes or 2 Hours) that was part of a weekly rotating The NBC Mystery Movie along with McMillen & Wife and McCloud.

I ultimately left it off my list due to the technicality.

Same as you two with your thoughts. I have the DVDs, have watched them several times over the last few decades, so it still holds up for me. I don't know what the viewing would be like for someone who didn't grow up in that time if they watched the show now for the first time. I think it would hold up about as well as a drama from the late 70s could, it was well written. In a cast that size they still managed to give depth and unique identities to most of the players. They also weren't afraid of depicting flaws in the adult characters as well. It was well acted too, especially considering how young and inexperienced the guys where who were the basketball team. They got some pretty good guest stars on from time to time, but the main thing was it felt like they depicted an authentic high school experience through the lens of the basketball team.

The opening song is indeed killer.

That episode when Curtis Jackson got shot still sticks with me. And always felt bad for Goldstein the way they ranked on him.
