The problem with network sitcoms is that it is almost impossible to have watched every show and unlike todays 6-8-12 episode series, quality slipped because of volume rather than anything else.
Family Ties was must watch TV, purely on the back of Michael J Fox who was just magnetic on screen.
Right - most shows back then were regularly 20+ episodes, so it was a marathon to stay with them, and if you missed an episode and didn't tape it, you had to time it right during summer reruns or you were SOL.
Though most shows didn't have recurring storylines, so if you missed an episode it was no big deal.

Unless it was a really good episode you missed.
Missing a number filler was no big deal, but the whole reason these shows still resonate is that some episodes were superb.
Unless you go back and play catch up and watch a lot of dreck, you may have never seen a shows better episodes

Before Friends, Matthew Perry was probably most known for Carol's boyfriend on Growing Pains who died in a car crash while driving drunk (apologies for the spoiler).
An all-time "Very Special Episode".

I also remembered him from the CBS version of "Charles In Charge", the one where Hoover from "Animal House" played the Dad.

Good call on Charles in Charge - forgot about that appearance. The blonde guy in that clip is Chainsaw's buddy Dave from Summer School - one of *those* guys that was in a ton of teen shows/movies in the '80s.

It was very hard to get a sitcom on my list because they mostly all run together (family lives place, actors be funny in relatable family ways, hooray). But the rewatchability and ubiquitousness of it alongside an outstanding cast and it had to make it on. I think this is like the 40 sitcoms I've never watched (or even heard of) that y'all have ranked already, but for the under 40 crowd.

never seen or heard of mindhunter (no netflix, something I need to fix)

Watched a few episodes of schitt's creek. Thought it was ok, just haven't gotten around to finishing yet.

Never seen ER.

Haven't seen Hannibal.

Have always heard good things, but the bar to get me to watch something animated over the wealth of awesome live action stuff these days is super high. Similar to the black and white...I'm ok to miss out on it in exchange for what I like more. I think the only animated show on my list that I watched after ~2010 is Arcane.

I think the quality actually starts to dip in like season 5 or 6 or maybe I just had a little burnout at that point. This might be my mea culpa. I had started watching this BEFORE this was announced and by the time lists were due I was on season 5, I think. It's a comedy and a little absurd at times but I think it has some heart to it. Of the comedys I did list I feel like I listed ones that had sentimental moments since I guess that's what I like and what I think makes for a good comedy. I'm also just sappy, I guess. In hindsight, I might have listed it lower but would still be top 70 for me.

FAMILY TIES - I didn't expect to be the top points here. This is one of two shows from that era that got the huge bump as I did the list and watched episodes. Most shows I thought were cheesy when watching, but I feel for this one all over again and I've been watching episodes here and there since then. Yes, it had it's warts at the end as others have pointed out, but Fox was awesome (as was Bateman) and the show had a ton of heart and laughs. Loved it then and it holds up well now.

HANNIBAL - As others said, I have no idea how this was a network show. Like Bates Motel, I was hesitant to watch something based on characters and movies I knew so well and loved, but both were homeruns for me. This one is truly bizzare and bloody. Mads was excellent as always.

BARRY - This was my big brain fart of the list. Easily a top 30 show for me, and this is what I have been binging a rewatch of before my Max goes away in a week. To echo Krista's thoughts about Jennifer Coolidge - I think Bill Hader is a national treasure. This show truly has it all - it's weird, it's bloody, it's funny, it's shocking, and it could make you cry. Hader puts on an acting clinic here, and Winkler is fantastic as always. Short episodes, and they had a plan with this one. Highest of recommends from me.

I'm top ranker here. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5gpop_dVpqc was fun to watch as a quick recap that reminded me of a bunch of things that happened over the 14 seasons.

I thought it dipped in the themed seasons in the middle, but started and finished strong. It surprised me at how far it went many times, and it stayed funny throughout.

Great cast indeed and very sharp writing. Neil Patrick Harris’s Barney was a terrific character.

I think I watched one episode of the successful ones - just happened to be the one where Gilbert from Revenge of the Nerds had a patient of his die during child birth. That was brutal and I don't think I watched another episode after that.
I watched quite a few episodes but that episode also caused me to stop watching. I was in a different part of my life and watching a depressing TV show didn't work for me. I tried watching again a few years ago and only got through 2 or 3 seasons and I got bored with it and stopped.

111 Archer - received a few positives reviews but never got the urge to tune in

112 How I Met Your Mother - watched most of it over the years but it oddly never came to me for consideration … not sure why, as I liked it good enough

112 Barry - been in the queue forvever but haven’t pulled the trigger to watch

114 Hannibal - oddly never heard of it

115 ER - watched it a bunch but just blended in with all of the other hospital based soap opera, drama shows

116 Family Ties - oversight on my par, really loved this show back in the day

117 Schitt's Creek - I held off a few years but started them last year and binged them … fantastic show, love me some Levy and O’Hara

118 Mindhunter - loved this show and would have included it if it wasn’t cancelled prematurely as others have stated

I originally had Barry in at the end like 67 or something but pulled it out

Really good show if we did 75 it probably would have made the cut

Big fan of Archer, so quotable and writing is top notch, lot of subtle humor. It did lose its stride a bit, I may still have a season to wrap up

I also watched one episode of ER. I went to a viewing party for what was a live episode where they showed some people checking a baseball score (to show it was legitimately being performed live). About half of us had never seen the show, the other half were diehards. I admittedly wasn't too into it since I didn't know any of the characters, until I saw a familiar face.

Me: "Hey, that's the Soul Glo guy!"
Girl next to me : "Who?"
Me: "From Coming to America! The Soul Glo guy!"
Others nearby "Yeah, that IS the Soul Glo guy!"

Suddenly, those of us not familiar with the show were energized by the Soul Glo guy, while I'm sure the diehards were wishing for us to shut up about it. Someone even started singing "Just let your Soul Glo!".

Not enough to get a ranking from me but a fun memory nonetheless.

This was a regular part of my viewing in the 80s. The writing was hit-or-miss, but the show's biggest asset was Michael J. Fox. He oozes charisma and it's no surprise that he became a film star during the course of the show's run.
Agreed. I do think it went downhill when they made little Andrew and Mallory's doofus boyfriend Nick prominent parts of the show, but it was consummate '80s watching back in the day. And yes, Fox was sensational - the very special episode where his best friend (who came out of nowhere) died, and Alex was having intense survivor's guilt, is the stuff of legends.
There was also a very special episode where Alex took pills to stay awake and study too.

I had this at #86
First few seasons of this is great, then they went on season long weirdness.
The fact its still going…i mean its just stupid now. Occasional moments, but kill it already.
It ended after 14 seasons. It returned to high quality for the last 3-4 seasons for me.

Great cast indeed and very sharp writing. Neil Patrick Harris’s Barney was a terrific character.
I'm sure its not going to be ranked, but my #30 ranked show is the best work of his career, IMO.

It was Netflix's A Series of Unfortunate Events and he played Count Olaf to perfection. Our kids were in grade school when it came out and we watched every episode as a family. I think I liked it more than our kids and laughed out loud multiple times every episode. Patrick Warburton as the narrator, Lemony Snicket, was a perfect casting as well.

I had that at 83, though I wasn't that careful about ranking below 70.
