There have been some very uneven seasons for this show.
First season was great, but the repetition and lack of an overall story arc makes it just seem like a cash cow at the moment.
Cohesion would help, but as this show is still live it could swing either way in my rankings.
At first the nostalgia was cute, but its become a parody of late.
Several of the actors have outgrown their characters age severely as well.
At its best, highly rated. Anyone think this finishes on a good note?

I’m actually surprised there’s such a big gap between #s 2 and 3. In my mind there is a clear top 3 with a drop off after that.
I’m guessing one of the three hasn’t been seen by as many people as the other two.

If the three are what I think they are, I haven’t seen two of them.

I have no idea how it’s going to finish, which is a good thing.

Alright, I understand that this is a subjective list and I was too lazy to even submit an entry.

But I’m not sure what to make of a world/list where Here Comes Honey Boo Boo is considered greater than The West Wing.
I am sure that you didn’t read the rest of the thread and/or forgot what day it is,

With the last season having been filmed when the kids were of college (or even post-college) age, I don’t see it ending well. Honestly I don’t have a ton of interest in season 5 and would rather remember it for what it was, but I’m sure I’ll watch it.

never had a desire to watch Stranger Things
May I recommend Gilmore Girls?
Since these are 2 of my top 10 is this a swipe at me? :boxing:

ETA: Some my selections had a lot to do with my emotional ties to who I watched them with. Both of these are in that category. I still think they are great show, but my higher rankings was fed by some very fond memories that were not solely based on the show itself.

32 - Survivor

I hated the whole concept of reality TV until my wife, son and father-in-law started watching season 30 of Survivor. I was mildly paying attention because a friend of a friend was a contestant that season. This pattern continued through season 34. I generally didn't pay attention before the merge because I found it too hard to keep track of who all these people were, but once the merge happened, there were fewer people to keep track of and the gameplay got more serious, I would be hooked. Starting in season 35, I decided I would consume pregame content in order to know who these people were when the season started. And that led me into discussion forums and fantasy leagues, and Survivor content started consuming as much of my time as fantasy football and baseball used to.

Jeff Probst calls the game "human poker" and that's a pretty good description of why it appeals to me. Watching people build bonds with each other to get through extreme circumstances and then having to break those bonds in order to win $1 million more often than not produces compelling character and gameplay moments. Even the bad seasons at least hold my interest. 48 seasons in, the show has a lot to recommend it -- as others have mentioned, just last week it had one of the best moments in the show's history.

I do think The Traitors -- which I ranked but will presumably not make the top 300 -- is the better show these days, and that is because people like me -- those who like to see people skilled at reality competition shows do their thing -- are its target audience, whereas Probst on his podcast says that more than anything else, he sees the current version of Survivor as an adventure show for kids.

I have not seen Australian Survivor because unlike with the Traitors, it is not easy to watch foreign versions of the show online if you are not tech savvy, and frankly also in part because some of its online champions are obnoxious (not you, Runkle). But I do want to see the Australia vs. The World season that is airing later this year and features three of the best players in the history of US Survivor.

I guess there's a pretty big difference between "greatest" and "favorite" in this countdown. This one just happened to be both for me because it was a staple in my house when I was growing up.

There was nothing like this on TV at the time. Most shows circa 1971 were milquetoast, homogenized and sanitized. All in the Family depicted real American life, warts and all. Its influence is immeasurable (there is no Homer Simpson or Al Bundy without Archie Bunker) and Archie Bunker remains one of the best characters ever created for the small screen.

Like a bunch of other people in this thread, I was the age of the kids in this show at the time the show takes place. Their experience is very much mine and the Duffer brothers do a fantastic job with recreating the look and feel of the period. Season 1 is one of the best seasons I have ever seen of any show, and the others have continued to hold my interest.

Nope - season 5 is coming out this year. Original title of Stranger Things Meet The Golden Girls was scrapped.

I liked season 1 until the end which made me give up on the show completely. Every impossible situation, Eleven just got them out it with her powers. Even at the end when they were like oh no she can’t use them anymore it’s been too much and then she just uses them again to save the day. Maybe I should go back and watch season / 2 but I really was liking the show until it got sloppy imo.

I've said it a zillion times but one of the best thing about the 80's were the child empowerment films. The Goonies, E.T., Stand By Me, The Neverending Story, etc.

Stranger Things nails that trope and actually improves upon it. It's an all time great show.

Now...Can I get all the seasons on physical 4k disc please?
For me it got to feel like Ready Player One in that they overdid the references and pushed the nostalgia button too much.
What? You don't like The Shining? I like the blast from the past thing.

28 - Justified

I thought I still had this one on my list, but I don't see it on my final list I sent to Scoresman. I don't see Spenser: For Hire either (loved Robert Urich), so I guess these were two of the ones I forgot what I had originally typed when I shuffled things around, but didn't get back to it for a couple days, and forgot what it was that I was inserting back in. I should have written it down on paper first. Oh well. I enjoyed the Justified series, and I felt it got stronger as the series progressed. I never watched the limited series/reboot Justified: City Primeval.

I started watching that one by accident thinking I was watching Justified. I only watched about 15 minutes before I realized it - but that small sample size makes me think that show would be a disappointment after watching Justified - which is amazing.

My wife and I got like 4 episodes in, got distracted, and haven't gone back.

I am 51 and have never watched an episode of All in the Family and it doesn't sound familiar at all.
The above is why I wondered about the age of the voters as I watched the countdown. There probably are a lot of people just like you that never saw All in the Family.

The age of the people voting here is the only possible explanation for that show being rated outside the top 10.

Its comparable to ranking the greatest players in sports. Most don't rate players they didn't see as high as those they have. More or less it's a lot of recency bias.

Very pleasantly surprised by this ranking.

This was the show (out of the 4 that made my list) where I said Olyphant was part of an ensemble cast for one season of a show.

Two more still to come and I'm almost positive both will make it.

Fargo was tough for me to rank

Season 1 was really good. Season 2 was good
I didn’t finish Season 3 and never started Season 4 but I didn’t pick it back up for Season 5 which also was really good

I probably should watch the other 2 seasons at some point. This is probably one of the few shows I ranked where I haven’t seen every episode

Yes and No. I’ve posted in here that I tend to visit and enjoy older movies but not so much tv shows. It’s simple and easy to do both. What I’m not going to do is hunt down 10 seasons of archival game footage and see how Leroy Kelly stacks up against Roger Craig.

Mike Milligan: I like you. I met another fella from Minnesota yesterday. A big guy. Sheriff, I think. I liked him too.

This one was a huge whiff and would be a little higher if I wasn't such a dunce. It would be in the top 15 for me as well. It was probably the only show I will miss now that I don't have NF. I will track it down and buy at least the first 3 seasons soon.

So many amazing characters and lines.
