1. Buffy the Vampire Slayer (95)
2. Top 10?

9. South Park (14)
10. The Americans (30)

Looking at that list vs. the rankings and you all are missing out on The Expanse. Any sci-fi fans should check it out who haven't already.
Sooo many people have recommended The Expanse to me. I started the book and gave up about a third of the way through. Then everyone recommended the show to me. I tried but realized "This is just like that book I didn't like". I really should like it but I just didn't. I don't know why.

Man's biggest conundrum/enigma/mystery:

I can pass a laugh emoji your way, but I'd probably be that contestant where everyone is yelling at their television about betting stupidly.

Who am I kidding actually? I'd be in the red and wouldn't get to bet in Final Jeopardy.

As the only one who knows the results, it really is funny seeing how many “This has to be top X” are incorrect.

I was sort of thinking that.

That and I was wondering (@Instinctive) who the hell could have Burn Notice as their all-time favorite show? I mean, it took me at least a twelver before I could suspend disbelief enough to watch it.
Well, as is the same with all these super old sitcoms and such, many of which are super low production quality and it blows my mind that someone would watch today over the wealth of better options...how old were you when you watched it? I was 14-20 when it aired and just loved it. Then the advent of streaming, college, it became the go to background show...now it's a great nostalgic, entertaining, turn my brain off and enjoy watch.

Like...do I think a BUNCH of dramas are "objectively" much better shows? Of course. If I just went on parental leave, I'm sleep deprived a bit, and it's bottle time again and something's going on the TV, it's Burn Notice, not Breaking Bad.

ETA: I've never really had an issue suspending disbelief. I suppose you also hate Star Wars, Lord of the Rings, etc? :p

HAHA

It's easier for some, but also if you know how many of your shows haven't come up yet that are ranked, you're kind of only saying "I kind of assume basically everyone ranked this, and many highly, so maybe it's 12th, but I may as well guess top 10" LOL.

I don't have many left, as one ranker who provided some diversity to this old crowd ;) , but I gotta assume these are still to show:

Breaking Bad
Game of Thrones
Better Call Saul
The Sopranos
The Office (U.S.)
The Wire

Then add in the interesting thing that you can knock out a chunk of my list as the "Saturday morning cartoons" and such - Looney Tunes was never even on the radar, it was all Pokemon. If you did this exercise with all people born in the 90s instead of the 60s and 70s, the list in many places looks super different - which i get is obvious (or should be).

I'm most intrigued by my #16 show, which unless I totally missed it, didn't even make the top 300, which seems SUPER up the alley of a number of folks on this forum. And I think was quite well done. But I'd be fairly surprised to see it show up in any of these super high spots. I will be giving it a hearty rec if it does indeed not make the list.

Lucifer, if you wondered

You're not going to believe this. Well, you will.

No, I don't like fantasy and science fiction that much at all. I'll read and appreciate a book that has science fiction or fantasy elements in it because it's often allegorical, but I generally do not seek out worlds that could not take place in reality.

¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I was teasing about Burn Notice, by the way. I used to watch it, so . . .

Yes that second one is obviously coming I just think it's the absolute worst show at this point in the list and can't really fathom how it is gonna end up as high as it will. It just isnt good. It's more appropriate for five minute YT clips.

Yeah I mean at some point it's just different strokes. Your FBG persona certainly reads as far more intentionally intellectual than I am. I had to bow out of the book thread because of the last 500 books I've read, i bet 400+ are some form of high fantasy in a series format. LOL.

When I saw the first season (in real time), I was like, "I wish I could have written this, it's exactly my kind of humor and no one else has done it like this." Those first few seasons were hilarious and pushed the boundaries of comedy like little else before or since. After 5 or 6 years it started to run out of steam and I gave up after the "Oprah's minge" episode.

“That you Gary?”

Man's biggest conundrum/enigma/mystery:

Yeah it's kinda a known thing at this point. Memorization nerds aren't always algebra nerds. There are several different "solved" scenarios but remembering which one to apply and then getting the math right in the time allotted while under the lights and in front of the cameras can be a stumbling block.

18 - MASH - #5 in my rankings seems really high. My dad loved this show, so there's some sentimental history here. Plus, I had the MASH board game as a kid, so that was cool. If I did another list, this would probably be somewhere around 30. I was feeling pretty nostalgic when I sent in the rankings, I guess.

17 - Curb Your Enthusiasm - I have never seen an episode, is it still funny and worth starting at this point, or was it "you had to be there" kind of show to really appreciate?

16 - Deadwood - I didn't rank it because of the way it ended. I don't understand why you (HBO) even start something like this if you can't finish it. Did nobody run an expense v. revenue analysis at the start of this to figure out how many seasons they could afford? But yeah, it was a great show and my lack of ranking it is just a useless protest vote.

15 - Jeopardy - #29 in my rankings. This is just an all-time staple of American life for the past 40 years. Nobody can replace Trebeck, just like nobody could replace Bob Barker.

14 - South Park - #6 in my rankings. It could have been higher but it sort of dropped off a good deal with the Tegridy Farms focus. The teaser for Season 27 was just released and I'm hoping the break will help bring it back to its former glory. - SEASON 27.

There are different kinds of intelligence. Apparently knowing a bunch of diverse stuff and understanding how to wager are different kinds.

My top 10
1. The Bugs Bunny Show
2. ****
3. ****
4 . Sesame Street
5. M*A*S*H
6. South Park
7. Star Trek
8. The Tonight Show With Johnny Carson
9 ****
10. All in the Family

I'm guessing Tiger King will be a lock at #2, just behind Breaking Bad and ahead of BCS.

I can forgive poor DD wagering because they don't have much time to figure it out. But they get 15 minutes to figure out their FJ wager, and scratch paper if they need to do the math that way. There's no excuse for the nonsensical FJ wagers that we see.

Those decades were a lot more freewheeling than the ones I've lived in.

From the Believer Magazine

"Reasons for the show’s untimely demise remain unclear. Rumors that PETA helped shut the show down because all the male chimps were castrated before filming appear to be untrue. (Well, the PETA thing is untrue, but the castration was very, very real.) Perhaps the show’s brief life had something to do with its unprecedented seven-figure budget. Or maybe it can be traced to the time ABC execs came to the set to see the show’s star, Tonga (a.k.a. Lancelot Link), literally taking a bite out of his veterinarian."

Aren't there supposed to be like 7 types? I remember there being some sort of game show where they had sections with people of different types of intelligence.

Maybe we can't be friends with this take. I thought we were on the same page in likes but this take supercedes any similarities we may have had previously.

No. I want only the noblest of yes-men all the way to the top of the mount. Be they fonts of wisdom or the simplest of tools; the finest of the great-souled or the worst of the licentious—none of it matters. I seek concord and the esteem of all men above all else.

I can imagine some of the large cocktail party scenes could go off the rails fast. I first saw it when I was about 8 or 9 and it was incredible.

Hey, the person I love the most in this world (my wife) agrees with Instinctive. She hates it. She also thinks Reba McIntyre is a comedic genius - so he’s got that for company.

Wait a second. I thought in today's world we are only supposed to frequent sites that mimic exactly what we think and only hang out with people that are 100% like minded. I thought gentlemanly disagreements and thoughtful discussion of differing opinions was no longer allowed in today's society. I might have to rethink things if you are allowed to have friends with different view points. You have given me something to think about......hmmmmmm

Me too.

I don't know why, but I never did finish season 4 (the hour long shows):

The Twilight Zone Project

So, if you want one man's guide to the show, I broke the episodes down into these categories:
"Definitely" - it's an episode that I think everyone should see. Whether it's a good plot twist or interesting social commentary or just a nice story.
"Yes" - it's not quite a classic but is still very good and enjoyable.
"Meh" - A lot of TZ episodes are derivative of each other/the same story. Still okay, but only worth one viewing.
"Yuck" - Either it was too "out there" or overacted...or for some other reason I really disliked it. Skippable entirely, IMO

A quick Top 15
Time Enough At Last - A true classic where a man finally gets his wish to be alone with his books...only to be prevented in accessing them.

Judgment Night - A good "time loop" story where a German U-Boat commander gets his just rewards - for all eternity.

The Monsters Are Due On Maple Street - We have met the enemy and they are us. Great commentary on Cold War hysteria.

A Stop At Willoughby - A man gets his wish to go back to a simpler time.

The After Hours - This one scared the crap out of me as a kid. A lady returns to a department store and finds out where she truly belongs. "Marrrssshhaaa..."

Nick Of Time - Shatner! But more importantly, you determine your destiny...not some machine in a restaurant in a backwater town.

The Obsolete Man - The totalitarian State liquidates people without purpose, such as librarians as books lead to thought. But the thinking man goes room 101 on the government man who condemned him.

Eye Of The Beholder - What is beauty? Apparently in some worlds it's looking like a pig.

The Shelter - An apparent impending nuclear strike pits a man vs. his neighbors who want him to "share" his bomb shelter they just recently derided him for building.

It's a Good Life - A monster, in the form of a 6 year old boy, holds a small town hostage; dispensing them to the "cornfield" if they make him angry.
Death's Head Revisited - A Nazi returns to Dachau where he's confronted by those upon whom he visited so much misery and death.

To Serve Man - Beware Kanamits bearing gifts.

The Trade-Ins - An elderly couple visits a business that offers replacement bodies for sale, but they only have enough money for one.

The Dummy - A hollowed out ventriloquist battles his dummy who may or may not actually be alive.
Nightmare at 20,000 Feet - A man who is recently recovered from a breakdown insists he sees a gremlin on the airplane's wing.

Living Doll - The mean stepfather becomes the target of his stepdaughter's doll's disdain.
An Occurrence at Owl Creek Bridge - A Confederate spy is about to be hanged when the rope breaks, allowing him to escape and return home.

The Jeopardy Room - A political refugee is forced into a game of cat-and-mouse with a rather artistic assassin.

Such a fantastic show and it’s the inspiration for one of my favorite amusement park rides ever - Tower of Terror. Beautifully themed and well done, down to the pre show with Rod Serling.

It's no longer Tower of Tower....now it's Guardians of the Galaxy

I have a seen a few Twilight Zone episodes and they were good. It just wasn't a show I saw a lot of so I couldn't rank it.
