It seems wrong for me to cut the guy now, after Bradshaw's injury, yet I'm about to do just that. He is just so horrible I can't ever fathom him in my lineup. I actually want my opponents to pick him up.
We used to have these same conversations about Mark Ingram. Ced Benson too, and probably Thomas Jones way back when. I see what everyone else sees when I watch him play, but we know the talent is there. Dude was billed by pretty much everyone as the best raw talent since AP to come out of school.
Fact is, his numbers are better than Ingram's were at this point in Ingram's career. I traded Ingram in the offseason for Mike Wallace, and thought the other guy was the sucker. Sometimes the light does not go on right away.
I can understand wanting to cut him. No chance I would do that though. Especially now.
Did you read the posts above? Sorry, but fact is, you are wrong. Ingram for his bad first two years averaged 3.9 ypc both years and then 4.9 ypc and this year 4.5 ypc. Richardson was 3.6, 2.99 (couldn't round since it was less than 3) and now 3.4 ypc. Richardson's best year is 0.3 ypc less than Ingram's worst year. Benson averaged 4.1 ypc in both of his first years.
Thomas Jones was the only guy comparable in years 1-3, but he also played in the RB wasteland that was the Arizona Cardinals his first 3 years. As soon as he got out of there he had 4 straight years of 4+ ypc. Last year and this year showed that Indy RBs outside of Richardson have thrived with close to 5 ypc having Luck as the QB. That was on close to 300 carries, i.e. a large sample size.
So again, Richardson is literally in a tier by himself. Even Jones deserved some leniency having Jake Plummer to take the pressure off of him when they went 15-33 in his three years in the desert. Luck as your QB is a bit better than that.
