Thiesman, Kornhieser a bit too much? (1 Viewer)

Fair & Balanced
This is the first time I felt this way. Laying in bed watching the game in the second half I could not take Kornhieser and Thiesman anymore!!

They said the same thing at least 50 times..Thiesman "Stay agressive" Kornhole "This win will make Lienarts career" Their volume seemed to increase and increase as the game went on. Was Tirico even on the air??

I finally just turned the volume off and watched the game..it was enjoyable to to watch the action although I missed the crowd noise.

2 guys in a booth is more than enough!

Not to mention the (initially appealing) idea of having Kornhieser poke holes in Thiesman's commentary just hasn't worked. Tony seems to be forcing it, and Joe just seems annoyed. It's just uncomfortable.

what makes this so funny is that any idiot can poke holes in 90% of what Theisman says. BUT...Kornheiser is just as stupid as Theisman and thus, they both end up looking like morons in the end.Wost crew EVER. No contest. Last night I was simply disgusted by those guys. Nothing new, constantly repeating themselves reiterating (or in last night's case hypocritically changing) the same point of view. And then they throw in a Jay-Z video on top of that. The game itself was very entertaining...but imagine how much better it'd have been with Jaws and Vermeil?

You are correct, sir.

Does anybody else wonder how we can be this much smarter than the ESPN suits? And I'm not being a smart### by that comment. I'm totally serious. EVERYbody I talk to expresses the same frustration.

Obviously ESPN knows that we're still going to watch...but I would think they'd want to put a good product out. This IS horrible.

Ya know, i'm ok with a lively booth, but I need at least an air of professionalism and dignity up there. This was like three 10 year olds watching the game. You dont tell the underdog they should leave the field after their first 1st down, you dont start speculating on what an amazing upset it would be in the first quarter. You can imply those things if you are good at your job and the audience gets it. These hacks are just terrible.

I actually feel a little bad for Thiesman- you can just hear him gritting his teeth whenever Kornhieser spurts out some juvenile observation, and then hits it again 10 times. I guess now Thiesman knows how everyone he has ever shared a booth with feels.

The Barkley stuff was just god-awful and waaaaay to long. "Charles, tells us what its like to take a dump before a game. Lots of pressure right? Is it any different before a football game?"

I know that announcers get paid to sensationalize events to try and create frenzy so people will want to watch, but when the Kornhole says that if the Cards lose they should shut the roof and just cancel football, that was really really bad.

Then the schmuck has to spend the next 15 minutes backpedaling because what was only moments ago an idiotic comment becomes a very real possibility and he just alienated the city of Phoenix and state of Arizona, not to mention the NFL.

Joe thiesman is probably the worst announcer I have ever heard period. Forget the fact that he is smug beyond words, he just doesn't know what he's doing plain and simple.

The system that works for me is that I do homework while I'm watching and I turn the volume down anyway so I can concentrate on what I'm writing.

Please ESPN! Hear the cries of your viewers!!! Remove these dim bulbs and replace them with...well...actual dim bulbs and none of would be able to tell except we'd enjoy the game more. I love the gentle hum of a dim flourescent light in a windowless room.

:goodposting: Theisman is a pompous jerk, but at least he knows what he is talking about. Only a few dozen people have QB'd a team to a Super Bowl win, so he has some insight that few others possess. Putting Kornheiser in the booth to antogonize Joe regarding semantics is foolish because it adds zero value. There are millions of people that can make smart ### comments and literal interpretations regarding what other people say, so its just not very entertaining to listen to Kornheiser try and make Theismann into his Wilbon for mindless banter while a game is going on in the middle of it.I like Kornheiser on the radio, but he's got to go. I actually think Tirico and Theisman would not be bad b/c Tirico could manage Joe's ego and extract his knowledge at the same time.

:goodposting: Kornheiser is obnoxious, has no knowledge and makes stupid comments. He's worse than Dennis Miller and Dierdorf.

Just shows you how talented and good the ESPN Sunday Night crew was...

Do the smart thing, REUNITE them!!

Last night was unbearable. KORNHEISER HAS TO GO.

His routine is ok on a 30 minute focused topic show but in the booth he is BRUTAL. I will not watch with sound on again.

Am I reading this correctly?

A post dedicated to trashing MNF announcers without suggesting any replacements?

I can't remember this ever happening!

OMG!

How unique!

  :jawdrop:

Lamar Thomas down?MO

And it seems they are unprepared for their booth interviews.
ESPN needs to do away with the booth interviews. I watch because it is suppose to be football not some half ### talk show. That #### is just ridiculous. Mother ####ers. Whoo! I feel better now.

? I finally just turned the volume off and watched the game..it was enjoyable to to watch the action although I missed the crowd noise.
I watched most of the first half in "real" time but than I had to put my kid to sleep while the game was on pause. I was also sick of the announcing so the way I watched the second half I fast forwarded between plays and watched the actual plays in slo-mo and like you said, it was great except for the lack of crowd noise. I've got to say you see a lot in slo-mo that you don't normally catch and the major thing that jumped out at me was that Edge had more running room than his stat line indicates but more often than not he chose the wrong running lane usually choosing to run into the back of his o-line instead of trying to burst thru a seam. Also, the Bears have an achilles heel and it's Grossman under pressure. Once he is rattled his feet get jumpy and he starts throwing duck balls off his back feet. Anyway, I digress.

Agree with most of the posts in this thread. I found myself thinking that Tony thinks he is on PTI...needing to yell his point & act very juvenile in argueing with Joe. It works on PTI....but in the booth it's just grating & gets old very quickly. Let's face it....ESPN is not listening to us nor will they. If that was the case Michael Irvin would not have a job.

I actually tried to turn off the TV volume for the ATL/NO game and just listen to the radio, but the radio's audio was WAAAAAY ahead of my DirecTV feed. I used to love MNF commentary but it's flat out terrible now.

BTW.. I enjoyed listening to Charles though.

Yes, you can't do the Radio/TV thing. All TV games are on like a 15 second (or a bit longer) tape delay, for the networks to edit out any potentially "unsuitable" material. Doesn't matter if it's regular cable or satellite. Trust me, I've tried............ :wall:

I couldn't stand them last night either, and the Jay-z video crap was pretty lameI thought ESPN was done with whole "boo-ya" era

I like Thiesman, I think he's funny and I do appreciate his knowledge. The problem is Kornhieser is so busy trying to impress us with "painting a picture story" that he rambles on and on about meaningless BS. He flip flopped 10 freaking times last night. Can't stand him and wish it were Tirico and JT. They would be fantastic together. IMHOIf I had a way to do it I'd send ESPN an e-mail to get Korn out of the booth...

I thought the crew of Vermeil with Jaws was outstanding. Although they sat on the fence a bit too much their knowledge and insight was exceptional and I found it extremely interesting listening to what they have to say. The current crew go a whole game without saying anything even the most casual football fan doesn't know. It's pathetic.

:goodposting: Tirico is so money. Doesn't matter if its Nascar, hockey, whatever. He and Theisman would be a decent combo because they would just talk about the game.

Did Miller last the whole year on MNF?

My wifes first impression of Kornheiser: She thought ESPN took a bum off the street and put him in a suit. All he was missing was a brown bag and a cardboard sign that says "Will work for booze."

Agreed.Current MNF crew: Mek yoos dumerVermeil/Ness/Jaws: Makes you smarter

hehe.. did you see Corn before the game with his comb-over wandering in the breeze? horrible. you're wife is right on.i just saw him next to Starbucks & took a pic with my camera phone. cornhole

I dunno, i thought the fact that Kornhole jinxed the Cards with his comment about "If the Cards lose this game they should sell the new stadium and turn it into a big pizza joint" was pretty funny. I said to myself, now they are going to lose it.

I wonder if they will serve Deep Dish Chicago style pizza. :lmao: :lmao: :lmao:

:lmao: When he offered his job to Charles Barkley I was hoping Barkley would accept. The reason the previous ESPN crew failed was because they were constantly bickering and trying to one up each other all game long. It lacked professionalism and people got tired of the distraction. So now they bring in a guy who knows very little about football to bicker with Theisman? I agree with others that a two man booth of Tirico and Theisman would be much improved over the current trio.

I am not a Kornheiser fan and thought he was a bad pick since day 1. (He has a huge ego, can't take any constructive criticism, and just comes across as a pompous, "I am smarter than you and let me tell you why" type). However, I do not have any problems with Theismann (probably one of the few in the forum that do not). That being said, I did not have any problems with the MNF commentary during the first two weeks. Since then, it seems as if Tony goes out of his way to bicker with Theismann, or make some wise comment, or talks about his fantasy football team and that is it. MNF has been harder to listen to as the weeks go by.

I thought MNF should have went to a two man booth as well when ESPN took over. Unfortunately I don't see that ever happening since the tradition has always been a three man booth. Even if ESPN did make a change (which they won't) I have absolutely no confidence that they will pick the right people for the job. So, like the rest of you, I just grin and bear it each week when I watch the game. I thought maybe I was being hypersensitive since I don't like Kornheiser, but it looks like others are thinking the same way.

I am just thankful to have NFL Network. At least I can watch that prior to kickoff on Mondays, instead of the ESPN pre-game show with Irvin and Scott.

My favorite comment was with just under 2 min left. ARZ's down 1 with the ball on a 3rd and 4 and Theisman says, "it's 4 down territory here." Are you kidding me, are they gonna just go ahead and punt Joe. Geez.

I stopped reading there.I love Tony, but I agree this booth is bretty bad. I actually think Tony needs to act more like he does on PTI. Theisman is whats killing it for me. All three need to be likable if it's going to work and Theisman is SOOOOOOOOOOOO horrible that he drags the ship down with him.

I'm a Redskins fan - and I think Jaworski, Aikman and even Simms are better commentators than Theismann, although I don't think he's as bad as many say (I thought McGuire was the bigger problem with the old Sunday night crew).

I think Jaws and Aikman are among the best commentators out there. I didn't see Vermeil but I imagine he would be good.

I generally like Kornheiser, but what he's doing on this show is bad. He needs some subtlety - the ripping Joe whenever possible schtick is annoying. Tirico is like melba toast. It's not bad, but it's not really adding anything either.

Any of those guys would be a huge improvement. I really like Jaworski's analysis, and wouldn't mind giving him a shot in the booth. Heck...I could live with Merril Hodge... I really miss hearing football analysis. Theisman makes my teeth hurt, and Kornheiser only compounds it. Tirico doesn't seem to be too bad, but it is hard to tell with the B%$&hing going on around him.I dropped six bucks at the bar's jukebox attempting to drown out the sound. James Brown is so much more soothing. :banned:

LOOK AT MATT LEINART WALK OFF THE FIELD!!!!

Enough said. What is this even supposed to mean? Yea, the guy's walking off the field. Appears to be a little disappointed. Probably has something to do with his team just blowing a big lead and losing the game. The plea to watch this man exit the field was emphatic and I of course obliged, yet there seemed to be little discernable difference between his act of walking and the dozens of others doing the same thing.

Troy Aikman needs to be in the booth on MNF, god knows he was on it a lot when he was playing in Dallas. The guy has complete control in the booth, makes intelligent observations, never gets overly excited, but adds enough to the game to keep you interested.

:lmao: :lmao: I loved this exchange:

JT: I don't look at Matt Leinart as a rookie.

TK: But ... he is a rookie.

JT: I know, but I don't think he's a rookie.

TK: But he is a rookie .... this is his second start. :wall:

JT: I know ... but look at the way he looks around. He's looking around!!!!! He's not a rookie.

MT: Moving on ....

:lmao: :lmao:

Did anyone else enjoy **** Vermeil when he was in the booth?
:yes:He, Jaws and Nessler were fantastic that first night, IMO.
Why can' t they bring these guys back? Seriously. It was like night and day. Theismann talks about what happened, Vermeil talked about what was happening. Vermeil had so much more insight in the game. I'm at the point where I wouldn't mind a couple of attractive woman talking about shoes. At least I could turn down the volume and be reasonably entertained when they do the booth shots.

Without reading any of the above responses, let me say YES!!! More so for Kornhole but JoeT was just as bad. I am sorry but a second start for a QB of Leinart's skill is not going to define his career, at least I hope and the entire Cardianls organizations hopes it does not.

I actually muted the game around the 9 minute mark cause I didn't want to hear them anymore.
