Things You Learned In Week 1 (1 Viewer)

Let's please try to make this a collection of things you saw today that you think are significant. Please let's do this one a little different and not focus too much on discussing what other people say they learned. Maybe it can stay more on topic that way.

For me, it was that Sam Bradford looked like a real NFL QB and obviously Mark Clayton is a guy he's comfortable with.

What did you see?

J

Mike X Willams is going to be a WR 2 this season. The guy is legit.

Elsewhere, Kareem Hudgins will be worthless this season.

i can't remember the last time i've seen an offensive line so badly man-handle a defensive line than i did with Houston-Indy today. I like Foster and he's clearly talented, but there were times where the whole Indy line got pushed 5 yards downfield.

49ers OLine is not as good as we thought it would be and Alex Smith is so bad and Michael Crabtree runs horrible routes... in other words not sure Gore is gonna be the stud many thought.

I learned that Tom Brady feels unbelievably comfortable once again and is TOTALLY in sync with all of his targets.

I learned that Houston learned a new trick and that their passing game looks to be severely overrated for the year.

I feel that by establishing their running game, people will have to respect the run, and when Daniels is 100% they have too many weapons/options to cover, and their passing game will explode. Impossible to cover 4 excellent receiving options and stack the box. By beating the Colts today, this will step up their confidence and Houston will be the team to beat in the AFC.

I learned that the 4th preseason game really does hurt the first regular season game. Seemed to be a lot of sloppy play and miscommunication out there and I really think a lot of that was due to most starters barely playing in that 4th preseason game. That revelation, if you will, makes me think I shouldn't judge negative plays/players too much until after next week.

Michael Vick is still a top 25 QB in the NFL. It remains to be seen if the same can be said of Kolb.
:censored:Given his ability to rush and that always being the case I'm not afraid to say top 12 even though you'll still pull out your hair at the inconsistency.

:censored: I thought this too. In the Brady / Manning / Brees / Rodgers bunch, I thought Brady looked by far the most comfortable of the group. J

One LB (Stewart Bradley) really can make all of the difference to a run defense.

Marcedes Lewis had a stellar preseason and looks to ready to continue in the regular season.

1. The Pats have reloaded. With the new TEs, a younger D, etc.. they looked legit today.

2. Houston looks like they could finally push for their first playoff appearance. Unfortunately they looked good, but Schaub/AJ/Jacoby owners are probably nervous.

3. I hate week one of fantasy football. I think every year it seems like the studs don't show up for a week or two (teams have longer to prepare for the first games). Lots of studs stinking it up today on fantasy rosters while players like Mark Clayton are lighting it up.

4. Dallas fans should be nervous - their O has looked like crap during the preseason and is looking that way now too.

5. Pete might just get the best out of BMW, and don't hand over the division title to the 9ers just yet.

6. Oakland is still Oakland.

Packers D will struggle with athletic QBs and Mike McCarthy will go into umbrella zones entirely too early.

If you are banking on Carson Palmer then you are in trouble. Downgrade the offense entirely. Also, Ocho/TO are already showing wonderfully bad body language.

Forte has skill but doesn't have a lot of ability shaking tackles in the backfield and doesn't have a lot of power.

Tashard Choice just got himself benched.

Wow. I was reminded there's a reason sometimes you take a knee before the half.

1. Hasselbeck is back in top form and SEA Mike Williams will be starter-worthy all season.

2. Ronnie Brown is back in top form but not sure the Phins OL will allow him to be great. Think he'll be pretty good though.

3. Peyton was getting lit up way too much - definitely concerned about their OL.

4. Hakeem Nicks will finish as a top 5 WR.

5. Palmer still looks shaky but their rookie TE Gresham may be better than Jermichael Finley this year.

6. Eagles will rue the day they traded McNabb away - and within the division too - huge mistake.

7. McDaniels will be fired soon. Did he really turn Cutler and Marshall into Tim Tebow?!?!? B/c that's all DEN seemed to net from all the picks they acquired from those trades. They used all those picks to move up for Alphonso Smith (a 5'7 CB who they already traded away for a former 7th rounder) and then they traded up for Tebow. Horrible!

That's all I got for now....

Rob Gronkowski is a legit TE 2 in bigger leagues - on potential TD production alone. He will see extensive action in the red zone. Even more impressive than his twisting TD catch was his block on the first Welker TD. He was split out wide and did an excellent job blocking in space.

Houston found a finisher

Reggie Wayne is still a top 3 receiver

I don't want to own any Seattle RBs

Jacksonville found a pass rush

Mendenhall will outperform is ADP

The Pats offense is going to put up a TON of points this season. I'm beyond happy I took Brady.
Amazingly, Moss may get lost in the shuffle.

The pats D brings a lot of speed to the table and might be a little underrated. I think they will still struggle to get to the passer though.

Week one is no time to panic. It is one game. Chill. There is no Anquan Boldin on the WW this year. Take a valium.

They have a ton of weapons, so I wouldn't be surprised if this was the case. I've been gathering Tate and the new TEs in all my dynasty leagues during the offseason.

The Niners quit today. I'd never figure that a Pete Carroll NFL team would play with more passion than a Mike Singletary led one. Embarrassing performance by SF.

And they cut Nate Davis for THAT?? I still firmly believe their most talented QB is on their PS.

My biggest takeaway today was that the 49ers will never reach their full potential with Alex Smith under center. He's just not a good QB and the little run of success he had last year was due to Jimmy Raye. David Carr obviously isn't the answer either, so the true answer at the position will likely not come until next year.

Any games the 49ers win this year will be despite Smith, not because of him.

I learned that..

the Patriots continue to prove, over and over again, that they don't need top-10 marquee WR talent to have a potent passing attack (sorry Randy...)

that Pittsburgh's D may be back

that SF has A LOT of work to do to get by Seattle?!?!

that Jermichael Finley is not the second coming of Jesus at the TE position

that Deangelo Williams, although not overly impressive, continues to show, despite hype to the contrary, that he is the RB1 in Carolina when healthy.

that Tim Tebow will be split out wide in Denver!?!?

...this just in... That Tashard Choice will fight for USELESS yards with 0 seconds left in the half, get stripped, and give up a defensive TD.

that Aaron Rogers can be kept under 200 yds, if only by the rain

that the Colt's D-line do not like tackling and their LB's don't like plugging holes

that Garrard can throw 3 TD's (remarkable enough in its own right) and none of them need to go to MSW

that Megatron forgot to pay off the refs

i'm learning that Trent Williams appears to be able to hold his own against Demarcus Ware
A few things I learned today.- Arian Foster is the steal of the draft.- Tom Brady is back to his 2007 form. Brady may end up as the #1 qb in fantasy football.- Donald Driver is to the NFL what the Rolling Stones are to rock and roll. The guy will never die no matter how old he is.- Larry Fitzgerald is in for a long season- Michael Crabtree will not take the next step in his development with Alex Smith at qb.- Chris Johnson is superhuman- Reggie Bush will never be a true impact player in fantasy football- Calvin Johnson will not put up great #'s in the early season w/out his qb.- Mike Martz's system makes any qb he works with look good.

Despite Mendenhall's big run at the end of the game, I doubt he'll be a top 10 RB this year. Redman was used a lot, and always on third and short situations.
