Things You Look Forward To (2 Viewers)

1) At a different life stage now - used to be spending time with all 3 of my kids as they were growing up, coaching baseball + other activities. Filled the calendar.  Now it's seeing them turn into great young adults and starting lives on their own post college.  I'm looking forward to each next stage.  Career progression, weddings, grandkids, etc.

2) Being happy and content with wife of 30 years.  She would win some of the "hottest" polls in this forum, and more than that she has a heart of gold.  Look forward to growing older with her.

3) Seeing my 100 lb Chocolate Lab basically come out of his skin being so excited to see me walk in after a road trip.  Look forward to taking him on long walks and playing fetch at the park.

4) Annual fantasy football draft.  Same guys for 20 years.  This year going back to Vegas.  It's an event.

5) Annual 24 guy golf tournament.  5 days each year in Palm Springs area.  Ryder Cup format.  On our 26th year.

6) Vacations - I'm big on life experiences vs anything material, so I like to have fun and explore.  Took our kids on vacations every year since they were little, and sorta bummed it's getting tougher to take them

7) Concerts.  Go to lots of them.  Can't wait for summers to see shows at the Hollywood Bowl, Greek, Santa Barbara Bowl, etc.  Nothing better.

8) Golf.  Joined a Club and it's how I clear my head.

9) Kentucky Derby/Breeder's Cup.  Playing less horses these days but still love the big events.

10) See #9.  We do a 15-20 guy 3 day trip in Del Mar every August that is off the hook.  Male bonding at it's finest.

11) Retirement - or the day I can finally say I'm done if I want to be done.
Bushwood?

Annual NFL Draft Poker Party:  It was better from an entertainment standpoint when the teams picked the first round on Saturday, but oh well.

Bringing my kids places.  We like to travel.  Need to make more money so I can blow it traveling more.

Sitting on my deck before the mosquitos get so bad you can't do it anymore.  So now until about May 15....and then again in September.
Screened in porch, well worth the investment.   My problem in NC is the heat.   It just gets too hot until the sun goes down.

- When my wife takes the kids somewhere for a little while and leaves me at home by myself and I can watch porn on the big screen.

- Movie releases of something I want to see in the theater

- Live FFL drafts

- Dessert
Sad day when D isn't looking forward to chest dumps.  :(   :poursout40:

As I grow older I have realized the anticipation of something nice is far greater than the actual thing.

The only thing I don't think that about, is my alone time.  I love me my alone time.

I want to move to NC.  Wife won't consider it with our kids being 13 and 10.  I'd love the weather, and so would they but family is all here. :kicksrock:

Best list so far, imo.

Too hot, stay up there.    Can't hang/golf outside from May to September.  (Born and raised outside Pittsburgh).

The little thing is coffee in the morning with the wife. I love waking up, sitting by the window looking out at the (fake) lake, and sharing coffee and talking.

The big thing is travel. We've been doing a lot more of it lately (Australia, New Zealand, New York, London, Paris, Rome, and plans for Singapore, Spain, and Ireland) and we love it. Once our dog dies (fingers crossed) it will be a whole lot easier, but there's not much I look forward to more than a big trip with her.

I like the 30 minutes in the morning that I wake up before everyone else in the house.  Every Saturday I get up early.  Just to have that little bit of time before my life turns into a drama fest (wife and two daughters).

It's truly nothing personal, but I just cannot read these lengthy ones.  The lack of punctuation kills me.  I sort of feel like I'm actually reading it and die from oxygen-deprivation after about the 23rd word.

Nice to be rich!
Depends on your definition.  Wife and I both drive 10 year old cars.  Don't keep up with the Jones's with bigger houses, etc. We crave to be rich with family, friends and life experiences.  Others have more "stuff" or more commas and zeroes in their net worth.  I'm OK with that.

I was just going to say a nice cup of coffee in the morning but it got super deep in here. Will have to give more thought.

I'll toss a few others out there.

Daylight savings time (spring).  It's the kickoff to spring for me.

When the lilacs bloom (mid-May).

The NFL Draft.

I like to call the things I look forward to "hobbies".  The ultimate look forward is retirement where my hobbies become my full time job:

Travel; St. Maarten again this year.  Forward towards retirement I plan on traveling more around the county in a remodeled vintage Airstream.

Building and fixing things; currently restoring a vintage Airstream.  By far the biggest job I've taken on myself, but, it's just one small job at a time.  Electrical is done, gas is next.  Can not wait to put all my tools to work doing the carpentry.  Hopefully it's done before I retire.

Learning; was so happy to finish the book I was reading yesterday so I can start the next one on my list.

Cooking; everyone's got to eat (took me three years, but, I finally learned how to bake a good loaf of bread).

Gardening/Farming; the old lady is going to have to manage the green house and garden this year because of above.  Hope to add more acreage and small livestock on the next place we live.

And of course the old lady and 2 giant Labradors.

Golf, fishing and music have taken a back seat the last couple of years.

I look forward to:

- annual musky trip to Lake of the Woods. Having this to look forward to keeps me sane.

- my kids' soccer games. Indescribable pride. (and also academic competitions, concerts, etc.)

- annual FF dyno draft at my house. Will be year 17 this Labor Day

- Opening Thursday/Friday of March Madness. 12 years running with the same group of guys gathering at BWW

- Also looking forward to when the kids graduate and go off to college, but I'll enjoy the ride along the way.

As of right now

Watching my kids perform or in any of their activities. Another softball game tomorrow night for my 7 year old. Watching the joy she shows playing is awesome. Witnessing the amazing creativity of my older daughter, in her music, drawing, and writing..Just wow.
The 7 year old caught three fairly hard thrown balls at first for 3 outs in one inning tonight.

:proudpapa:

A tall, cold beer.

I was going to further elaborate as to WHEN but decided that it is all encompassing from when I see the empty glass to the time the next one shows up.

Good stuff in here.  A couple I haven't seen yet:

Watching my parents play with my kids. Second only to the famous end-of-workday greeting when it comes to kid-related happiness for me.

The moment at the end of the day when the kids are in bed and I take my first toke and sit down to a suddenly way more delicious dinner and suddenly way more fascinating ballgame.

When we get to the bottom of a box of Life cereal and all that's left is the sugary crumbs and I can pour it directly into my mouth like the gluttonous pig that I am.  Bonus if it's Cinnamon Life cereal.  Double bonus if it happens after the aforementioned toke.

  • Watching the kids play their sports.  Being a die hard fan of pro/college teams pretty much died when I started watching my kids play.  It is far more fun to watch and cheer for people you actually enjoy cheering for.
  • Spring time so the bonfires can start.  Nothing better than downing some rum n cokes sitting around a bonfire on a cool summer night with good friends.
  • Weekend days when the house is empty.  Love the family, but gotta have some occasional alone time.
