Things you'll (probably) never do? (1 Viewer)

How about things that aren't dumb and that you probably would have liked to do, but where the opportunity or interest has likely passed you by?
Pretty much any mind altering drug (except alcohol). Always had a passing interest in seeing what weed, peyote, LSD, ecstasy, shrooms, etc. would do. I never partook - opportunity for that is long past.
Learn to speak a second language...

Always wanted to... never did
These are good non-schtick ones I'll echo. I won't totally dismiss the more dangerous suggestions- what if I contract something terminal but with enough time to sustain a quality life for a short period of time? I may jump off a bridge with the small risk of that being it vs another 6 months to live. Nothing will get me to try drugs beyond weed though.

And I struggle enough retaining the info I already know, let alone trying to learn something new on top of it. Second language ain't happening, I'm encouraging our kids to pursue it will they're young.

Ride Steel Vengeance at Cedar Point. Too fat and the way the restraints are I don’t see it happening anytime soon (aside from the beer belly I have really thick thighs)
I'm 6'1 225, are you a lot bigger? It was snug, but far from uncomfortable. I needed a break afterwards, but it wasn't due to the restraints fit on my body, it's just a wild ride. If maverick is a bucking bronco then steel vengeance is one on steroids.

Yeah im like 5’10” 295. Can’t ride Millennium either, everything else I can usually squeeze into but it’s a tight fit (I know gatekeeper, raptor and Valraven all have a couple of oversized seats I think rows 4 and 5)

Also just did Kings Island I could do everything expect Mystic Timbers and Flight of Fear. Banshee, Orion and Diamondback were all very tight though

I will never be a rock star.
I will never play in the NFL.
I will never be an artist.
People that jump off of things or out of things are crazy.
I will never play the guitar. Always wanted to.
I will never go on a cruise again according to my wife.

I’m sure I’ll never bang a pro. I’ve never really wanted to, but looking back on my life big picture it just seems like something every guy should do at least once in a life well-lived.

Eh, this is one of the few that I look back on with zero regret. Maybe it has something to do with some of the things I've seen at work, maybe it has something to do with the couple of times where I have a buddy engaging in the solicitation of the service and it just seemed so... transactional? Regardless, it just never appealed to me.

Upon reflection, if I knew that a particular establishment was run fairly, the girls had regular medical care, and most importantly I knew the girls were willingly engaging in the activity, I could see doing it. That said, a large part of what made me enjoy it "for free" is the knowledge that the girl wanted those things to happen with me as opposed to doing it because she was being paid. Heck, one of my proudest moments was getting a stripper to pay me $1 to give me a dance.

As a divorce attorney, I have advised clients (generally when they're at the start of the divorce and their spouse is very emotionally charged) to go somewhere away from the jurisdiction and pay for it if they really had the need for it as opposed to dating locally.

My serious answer is going on a cruise. I've been pretty vocal here about how I dislike the idea of cruises for multiple reasons. Mainly, I see absolutely no advantage to a cruise over just directly visiting whatever destination it is you're going to. No forced schedules. Better food options, no norovirus, etc.

I've never been on a cruise, but I have heard the food options are outrageous!
I have zero desire to go on a cruise, however, I would greatly like to charter a catamaran in either the Caribbean or Mediterranean with a dive guide and a good chef.

I did a Disney cruise when I was 18. It was fun and I'd do one again. My in-laws just did an Alaskan cruise and loved it.

But, yeah, probably give me a nice destination all-inclusive resort over it.

Yeah something on your own terms and schedule with a private chef? That sounds amazing indeed.

I’m the exact opposite.

Although I've tried it, alcohol has never appealed to me. Hallucinogens are much more enticing, and I’m looking forward to trying them when my body fails.

Getting a tattoo
This is a good one, though probably not super popular with our demographic.

Don’t think skydiving is either.

ETA AI says ~1% of the population skydives. Maybe higher than two girls at once, but not exactly “common”.

I don't drink, either. In fact, the last time I had anything was after the Bourbon Chase with buddies from the 10k thread like @tri-man 47 . But I do know what drunk off your *** feels like and don't for the rest of that stuff. No interest in addictive stuff (coke, heroin, etc.), but the others hold a passing "I wonder what that experience is like?"

Then again, I like bank heist movies and when I walk into a bank I look around see where the cameras are. But sticking up a bank isn't on my bucket list, either. So now just meandering thoughts of what could be...

Scuba diving
Getting a tattoo
Not too late for either if you want to

Just got my first tattoo a few weeks ago at 56. Going to get one more and call it a day with them
That’s interesting - why now?
I’ve thought about it before. Wanted to represent Austrian heritage without displaying anything to be confused with aryan or ss. For a while I was thinking about a form of black eagle…. But couldn’t live with that

There is significance to them.

You might appreciate the current:
Right calf
Crossed skis, mountain backdrop with subtle sunset, small Austrian flag above the cross. Under the cross is an edelweiss.

Next one would be a small manta on my left ankle

That's the first "popular" thing that I thought of as well. I could maybe be talked into it in the right situation (like Alaska maybe), but the wife is a hard no on the matter, and we've always had plenty of fun setting our own vacation itinerary.

Your Alaska comment is the only reason I didn't tail Scores original post. It's not at the top of the priority list, but it is on it, and the only way I'll ever do a cruise. If there is a better way to vacation in Alaska I'll do that instead though.

I never intended to go skydiving….

Friends: What’s that shoebox full of change on your dresser?

Me: (flippantly) That? Oh that’s my skydiving fund.

Friends: WE’RE GOING!!!!

Me: #@!&

One pile of quarters and a lost contact lens at 10,000 ft later, I have one tandem jump to my credit.

Never done a cruise, but heard people rave about it.

The interior of the state is beautiful too, but it’s huge and difficult to take it all in. I ended up spending a couple weeks in AK, and feel like I barely touched the surface, though the flight and landing at the base of Denali was breathtaking.

I wasn’t thinking about regret given the question. Just thinking of something many if not most guys across all cultures throughout human history have done that I’ll die without ever doing.

At 52, skip the risky hype like rafting, skydiving, or bungee jumping. Most people don’t do Everest or ultramarathons either. Focus on what you actually want, good food, naps, chill time.

Schtick answers highly encouraged, but I was thinking of things (since I turn 52 tomorrow) that I'll probably just never do in my lifetime that are typically popular with other folks. Saw a couple of schlubs from SportsCenter went whitewater rafting and thought to myself "eh, I'll probably never do that".

Same with skydiving. No thanks.

Whatchoo got?
Skydiving was the first thing that came to mind. I wanted to do it when I was a teenager but now, no way Jose.
