THIS IS THEIR BEST SONG! - Music Draft - Saturday Night's Alright for iFighting (2 Viewers)

11.24 Dead Modern Still Cool

So far I’ve tried to be strategic in this draft mostly picking bands that I thought would be picked soon by at least one of you.  This round, though, I’m going to do something different.

First of all, there can be no debate that this isn’t the band’s best song since it is the only song currently available.  Their first EP will be released Friday but they released the “official video” of this song on YouTube last Friday.  Hopefully the EP will be available on the streaming services but I’m not sure they will be big enough for that.  Their video only has 291 views as I type this and that counts a ton by me!

They describe their music as “Scottish dance-rock” and also “nostalgic synth miserablism”.  I’m not sure I get the miserablism part but maybe that just means I’m an undiagnosed miserabilist.

Anyway, I really dig this song.  I know Scottish dance-rock won’t be everyone’s cup of tea, but if it might be, I urge you to take a listen.

This is awesome.

Really liked this, too!  Enjoyed the video as well.  Just a lot of fun.

I’m glad you like it. The lead singer is in another band that I’ll draft later.  That band isn’t popular either and haven’t released anything in years but have 2 1/2 albums of excellent songs.

That song is right up my alley.  Sucks it's not on Spotify.

this is great. not on Apple music yet like you said, but I'll definitely keep checking.

OK - first pick.

11.3.5 The Animals - "Sky Pilot"

One of the more fascinating tunes of the Vietnam era. I first heard this tune sophomore year of college while getting healthily baked and it blew me away then - still creates chills when I hear it.  And dat bass...

Looks like I'm up for my 12.6 pick.

The popular lament for fans of this band is, "how did they not blow up?"  And I get it and agree with the sentiment but they've done just fine. This was the first song I heard that really blew me away.  The wall of sound from just three guys, incredible guitar, drumming, and bass. And Dug's vocals. Man, what a sound. The original video hasn't aged well but if you dig it, the two more recent live performances are worth checking out.

King's X - Over My Head

Live Love in London Version 2009

2021 Version

Totally agree - these guys should have been much bigger than they were.

ETA: I was at first shocked how old Pinnick is/was - he was 39 when this song came out.

Yeah, and he still crushes it.  To put it in perspective he's the same age as Billy Gibbons.

60s/70s folk singer songwriter, also checks the Canada box. :)

Gordon LightfootIf You Could Read My Mind

Never saw him live although the dude was still touring last time I checked...he's gotta be close to 80.  He's got some all timers, but I've always loved this song.  I have never heard his music on the radio but it has popped up on my Pandora.   I discovered him via a friend's dad when I was in college.

I have no idea what the perception of his music is.  It seems like everybody kind of forgot about him.

Drat.  I was going to pick Sundown.

I can see her lying back in her satin dress
In a room where you do what you don't confess
Magic.

They might have split up or they might have capsized
They may have broke deep and took water
And all that remains is the faces and the names
Of the wives and the sons and the daughters

12.x - Sublime - Badfish

man, what could have been... growing up in SoCal during the period, this one is a little close to home. Sublime had such a unique sound, and was just starting to come into their own when Bradley Nowell died of an overdose. they have so many good songs to choose from, but I chose this one because on the surface it has the perfect sound to represent the band and it makes you think of sunny SoCal, blunts, and brews. but the underlying message of the song is Bradley's struggle with heroin addiction, which would kill him just a couple years later.

Cake Sheep Go To Heaven.......Goats go to hell!

Cake is just easy to listen to.  Prolonging the Magic is my favorite album of theirs, and I could've picked damn near every song on the album....

This was on my short list.....love this song!  Love Bradley Nowell's voice....too bad he couldn't overcome addiction

Round 12.11  -  Texas Flood -  Stevie Ray Vaughn

How SRV hasn't gone yet is a mystery.

@Manster is up

@El Floppo is on deck
I've come close to picking SRV several times......I can watch live videos of him playing and just get mezmorized.  Best blues guitarist of all time, easily, imo.  And maybe just best guitarist all time...... It just flowed out of him like he was possessed.

ain't got no time to get old...

ouch

Santeria is one of the first songs my kid learned to play on her own without a music teacher. 😅

I think I would have taken DJs.

Tough call on this one...I have my favorite song from them, but another I think is more universally preferred...that I also like a lot.

12- Dirty Projectors- Rise Above

I have an odd tendency to like bands and songs where I want to punch the male lead singer in the nads. But this is my favorite cover ever, and 15ish years later still just love the tune. Stillness is the Move is probably the "better" tune

Lol damn. Had planned a different tune and band, and Burma-ed this one (which I doubt anybody was taking soon) when I saw my name @ed.

12.16 - Crowded House - Fall At Your Feet (1996)  Live at Sydney Opera House

https://youtu.be/zZdcz1ALuBo

While Don't Dream It's Over always seems to be the choice for their best song, I prefer this stunning, overlooked, and vastly underrated song. Honorable mention to runner ups: World Where You LiveIt's Only Natural, and Into Temptation.

I'm addicted to this draft but have a million things to do preparing for my trip. Really really enjoyed this morning pick run. Well, not sure WAT da heck Floppo took but... haha... he do that to me all the time.

Anyway, I must pull myself away so skip me if it moves that fast.
